Things seem to be winding together like a river on its final stretch to the ocean. We've reached the delta where the silt might get a chance to drop out, leaving a record of the waters passing before going out to sea. I'll remember the rapids and brooks fondly as the air scents turn to brine and the gulls sound and the ocean calls. Always looking forward to the next adventure carried by that very same water that you cast off on that day.

I grew up in the same town as the Atkin family back in the 60's. My father owned Hayward Marine Center at that time and William Atkin was the person he used in surveying every boat dad purchased used. The name Atkin is a name that could be heard in our home on a regular basis. I went to Tokeneke Elementary where Pat taught art. My life has crossed paths with the Atkin Family more times than I can think. Pat will be missed.

I love Fridays! It was great to see another plank go on Arabella. I was moved by your tribute to Pat Atkin and her preservation of the life’s work of her husband John and her father in law William. Those who curate and preserve the record of creative work for successive generations are equally important as the creators themselves to my way of thinking. Without them all of that work would be lost. Hats off to Pat Akin! And hats off to you too, Steve, for bringing an Akin design to life and writing another chapter in the Akin legacy . Thank you for sharing all of this with this community you have built through your hard work and enthusiasm.

The comments about William, John and Pat Atkin are very touching and appropriate. I knew them well. Spent two winters working for John in the Atkin office in Darien. John taught me to design the way he had been taught by his father. It inspired me. I went on to earn bachelors and masters degrees in Naval architecture and proceeded to make this my career. I am forever indebted to John for his mentorship and to Pat for her kindness in having me under their roof. They gave freely their time and prodigious talents to many in this world who love boats and especially wooden boats. I am forever indebted to you John and Pat.

I have learned so much and got enough from this channel to talk the same language with guys that have decades of experience in wooden boat building. Now the boat that I have designed is on the water (I'm sorry it'sa motor yacht but still it's wood), and you guys are partially responsible of it !
