Hanging With MTB YouTubers at South Mountain in Phoenix Arizona / Waterfall Crash and Climb Fails

Phoenix Az was our first stop on our Sedona MTB festival trip, but it’ll be my last video from MTB adventure.
We stopped by SpartanRides to get the few people in our group who flew in dialed on their bikes & then we headed to South Mountain.
This was officially my first time riding my MTB in Arizona & going from Hero Cali Dirt to Sandy loose terrain was a wake up call to the conditions we would see most of the weekend. This place is CHUNKY AF… So many rocks to navigate up or down, there’s just not many easy lines to find out here.
The Waterfall was our final destination for the day’s ride & no this time nobody actually dies.. There were 2 massive crashes 💥 first by B1ker who fell left off the waterfall into a large thorny bush.. thankfully he was okay with just a gash through his knee pad & cut in his knee. Then Moonlight Leather Foot went for it & crashed mildly once.. and then brutally again right in front of me as I attempted to follow him down. Again thank goodness he was okay and nobody was seriously hurt on the “Infamous Waterfall Feature”
The rest of the ride was purely for fun and joy, just seeing different terrain and making it all up as we rode. It’s so much fun to ride somewhere you’ve never been with a great local tour guide who knows the area well. Tim was a great sport in helping us all find our way in and out of South Mountains awesome trail system!

Thank you! I really wish I could make it happen, but it’ll be a bit too hard to make it back out in March alone.. car isn’t totally up to par for a 12-13hour drive there and back. Unless I find some friends going who have room for another I’ll be missing out this year

I really enjoyed this video. It got me thinking... It was fun to see some of the lines you did or didn't do. There were some lines that you passed up that I feel comfortable doing and some that you did that I don't think I'm ready for yet. It's interesting to note that line choices are heavily influenced by the people you are riding with. For example, you skipped the easier way down the waterfall after watching someone tumble, but then did a line that was harder, imo. The group riding dynamic really is a cool thing. Love it. Such a great sport.

Good to hear! Thanks Jeff. This place was extremely wild to see for my first time ever & all I could do was go with my gut and trust my feelings. After watching Josh (Daily MTB Rider) go down the straight line I felt like I could do it.. until I watched 2 of my other friends fall down the left side. Knowing that this was my first day in Arizona and we had the whole Sedona MTB festival ahead of us, I had no needs to try and be a hero out here! I’d definitely like to come back and see how things change over time. It’s funny you say the line I did was harder, kUz it all linked up and looked much more rollable just with the big step compressions at the end & the Mega just ate it up! 🕺🏻
