Man, that hang balu on the first song...the bass almost sounded like an upright bass! Same with the hang gubal. Great sounding instrument! Nice playing too, thank you.

I dont understand why they stopped making the Hang. Your 2nd gen and integral ones sound amazingly beautiful. As someone who missed when they were making them, I was thinking of trying to get a Balu but there's just no comparison. Thank you for sharing

sghtsngsnds simply for exclusivity, the creator never wanted them to be popular or easy to find, kinda like a hidden little diamond in a massive mountain of dirt

@@DominikGuerriero I believe they needed to move on to new works of art (that offered other playing possibilities) instead of simply continuing to make copies of their own design. The Hang Makers are innovators as well as artists/musicians. The commercialization of their instruments was never practical for them nor a big priority. To understand PANArt you need to pierce into the artist's mindset and the spirit of innovation without over-commercialization.

Hey Dan, it looks like I'm recording with a pair AKG C214's. I don't recall if I went into a DAW or a portable device but that shouldn't make a difference with the sound. It's a big barn with lots of wood that made for nice natural acoustics.

My only feedback would be that it sounds like your Free Integral is a little out of tune in the ding and low end, if you haven't got a tune up recently it may be worth sending it to a tuner near you! :) Josh Riviera of Veritas sound sculptures is a great tuner.

Wow! Amazing sound and performance! :) A few questions! Why are some Hangpans played with the whole facing down(it seems other brands are played upside down)? Is it only the brand Hang® who made them like this? I am buying a Pan soon, and I would like to really know what would be a good one to get. It seems to me the Hang® sound is the coolest, warmest and it simply captivated me the most :) However, I can't seem to find where to buy them... or can you only request them via email in their website? PANArt (Hangmakers) started to experiment beyond the Hang and brought the GU (hole) to the top, surrounded by the tonal field. Most Handpans are like the Hang in that the Gu is facing down, which gives an advantage to access more melodic possibilities... but with the Gu and tones all on top it offers the addition of strong bass tones to accompany the melodies. The Gubal and Balu instruments by PANArt were specifically designed to give easier access to bass tones and tone-field melodies alike. Playing the Hang vertically so that my left hand is on the Gu and right hand on the tonal field is my favorite way to access both bass and melody. I saw Felix and Sabina doing this back in 2005 and it opened a whole new world of possibilities.

Im torn between a Gubal and he Balu sui. Differences seem scant, but what would you say??

There are similarities but for myself the Gubal has stronger bass tones and has a slight edge as a solo instrument. The Balu has it's own unique qualities. Listen/watch videos and see what appeals. Good luck!

How is the bass on the Gubal? does it have good volume?

If you develop a certain technique then yes the bass can be strong unplugged...but also depends on the room you're playing and the noise level around you. Even outdoors in a quiet place the bass can be very well defined with plenty of volume...but if it's mic'd going through full range speakers you'll have all the bass you need :)
