Also, something that often goes unnoticed, Hank refused to eat his yogurt before when Marie left it for him after he refused to eat anything. Finding out about an actual case got him back in his usual swing of things and he started eating the yogurt again moments after Tim mentioned someone shot Gale in the face. Very subtle, awesome small details.

I think Hank eating shows concentration and focus - he eats a bag of potato chips when he's piecing together the Heisenberg case in S5E9.
@BelieveInUrself93 Жыл бұрын
Hank was eating the pudding when Tim walked in. It's not shown in this clip, but if you go watch the show that's what he's doing and it's kinda funny but it's not something he starts after being given the case. Him choosing to eat it after Marie leaves the room is a deliberate choice by the writers that can be interpreted certain ways, but it's just not a detail specific to the case itself in my opinion. But It does mirror his behavior of how, just like with the pudding, he chooses not to look at the case until after Tim leaves the room. So I guess there is a kind of parallel there. I think both times it's him rejecting charity, but more than that it's him refusing to be seen as someone that accepts charity because it's an image he feels he has to uphold as someone who can get by on his own and doesn't need help, even though he does.

@soulreaverable5 жыл бұрын
Simon Riley I’ve been thinking about exactly this for a while now. Same is happening with any major even in Better Call Saul and people saying “this is where Saul is born.” I think people are missing the fact that Walt was always Heisenberg. It was just repressed deep inside. These key moments are just points where his true persona comes out more and more. I don’t think there is a singular moment where “Walt dies and becomes Heisenberg.”
@conorobrien10252 жыл бұрын
I thought Hank's character was kinda corny upon my first viewing. Well, I still think that really. But the more I rewatch scenes, the more I appreciate the character. He's tough, he's determined, and he's very insecure. The overly masculine tough guy thing makes his corny humor more understandable. He doesn't think he's as smart as the people he's going after. He's vulnerable and afraid, just like anybody would be, but he tries to cover it up with his cornball commentary. He doesn't realize that he underestimates himself. Despite all of this, he's the one doing the right thing, and he's so committed he can't not do it. He's insecure and unaware that he actually is the right man for the job. He has to overcome his self doubt to finally solve the case, and when it doesn't work out, he proves that he was truly the strongest character all along. Great character. Great acting
@kylenetherwood87343 жыл бұрын
Hank was like Walt in his refusal because he thought it was charity. He only helped when finding out that he would actually be useful.
@thetooginator1533 жыл бұрын
I like your observation! I was thinking Hank was being overly sensitive and that the detective genuinely needed Hank’s help. I think you are on to something: maybe the writers wanted to show how Hank has the same problem Walt has: too much pride. A little pride is necessary and normal, but Walt caused a lot of destruction due to his pride. Hank came pretty close to missing Heisenberg due to his pride. Unfortunately for Hank, maybe missing Heisenberg would have been healthier for him. “Breaking Bad” is a great show to analyze because each character is flawed. Hank is one of the least flawed, but I like how you pointed out how Walt and Hank’s excessive pride are problems for both of them.

Pretty great acting on Hank’s part, pretending like he’s never heard of his drug mule Walter’s assistant, Gale, who sees at work multiple times a week.
