True that the donut is way slower, but I love the organization of this method and not worrying about snagging something coming out of my pack and causing the whole thing to unravel. I'll just watch some Netflix or your tube when making the donuts. Thanks for this video!

There's nothing wrong with that! We're always willing to listen to another perspective on important issues like paracord storage! 😆

I'm a newbie. I have made the hand hank, and intend to make the donut with my new batch of cord. I didn't think about the kink factor viz. long-term storage. Hmmm, I may still make a donut for the experience, but mostly stick with hanks. Good coverage of pros and cons except I hear the donut is strong enough to tow vehicles out of the mud, has survival / backcountry uses, and can even be used for handles on some exercise equipment.

Empty 2 liter bottle. Feed in your cord. At the end feed it through a drilled hole in the bottle cap..Cap back on bottle and you've got a water proof dispenser for a reasonable amount of cord, tangle free, AND... if you go boating, fishing, etc. It FLOATS. 👊😎👍

Very nice! I wonder how much I can fit in a water bottle for backpacking????

You can use the same tie that he is using for the donut. But just go straight down the cord instead of around the donut. It turns 100 meter into about 25, and is still a quick release and doesn't get tangled. I learned that in the military.

27-30 minutes?! Lol I'm just starting to play with paracord, have never seen that donut before today...watched he video once, then gave it a shot. First attempt was 16min, second was 12. You spend so much time fiddling with the loop and adjusting the size, and taking out twist when the cord is just dangling like that....try running the working end of the cord under your foot to keep tension on it, pull your loop up through, then pull the donut down to tighten. Pull the whole thing up when you need more slack every couple loops. Not advocating for one way or the other, just sharing for those watching, 30 minutes is way longer than that has to take

It definitely depends on how much cord you use, how large you make the donut, and how many loops you start with before making your first knot in the daisy chain process. That's great if you can do it faster than me! 😛👍

@@ParacordPlanet hahaha I wasn't just trying to be a jerk and brag. Was trying to say there may be ways you could improve your time....even if I may not have explained my way that well. Hearing how long it took an experienced person like yourself might scare off others from even giving it a chance, you know? I always compare apples to apples :) I used 50' of pre-untangled cord, 5 loose wraps around my hand, as shown in the video. At any rate, it definitely looks cooler than pulling out a normal hank of cordage...but yeah, i can imagine it getting funky if stored with these tight bends for extended periods of time Looking forward to watching more of your videos, just found your channel after ordering some of your stuff off Amazon yesterday :)

@@Kavik79 As you mentioned, it may scare someone off because of the time it took him, I actually decided not to try the donut! After reading your comment, though, I am going to try it! aha

I just take a piece of card board and wrap the cord around that.

Same. I learned it with Christmas lights as as a kid and it always worked decent. A snag every now and then doesn’t bother me too much lol.

Fast Hank. I wrap my cord in a Fast Hank and then put it in a Zip Loc bag and make a little port to pull the cord out. Keeps the cord clean and I put an index card in with the color and where i got it.

One factor to consider would be what you intend to use the paracord for; if I’m gonna use it for outdoor/survivalist purposes then I’m definitely not wanting kinks or tight bends which weakens the cord, plus being able to deploy (and repack) the whole thing in seconds, so hanks are a viable option. If however I’m going to be making mostly decorative paracord bracelets and want to let out only a few feet at a time while keeping the rest neat, then the donut fits the bill.

My quick hanks tend to get tangled. Is it because there are twists in the rope, or am i doing it wrong.

Make sure your cord is free of tangles and any twists prior to doing the Fast Hank method.

In the military we use the same tie that he uses for the donut, except we just do it straight down the cord. It turns the 100 meters into about 25 meters and is very quick to unravel the amount you need.

The Donut is a lot of work. Sure. But it's quite easy to organize your cordage with it. For pre-lengthend cordage (e.g. ridge line) the hank will be the best way. Even in dark circumstances you can grab in your backpack and know immediately what kind of rope is at your fingertips. But for your multipurpose use the donut provides you with more options: It's an emergency carry seat. If someone get's an injured leg and must be carried out of the danger zone by two comrades, the two carrier can each grab the donut and the injured one sits on top of their hands. That's how it's teached at the pathfinder, mountaineer or army schools. docplayer.org/docs-images/71/64917989/images/6-1.jpg
