Someone asked Hank, "How do you write all of those sad songs?", Hank replied, "Hell boy, you can't just write 'em, you gotta live 'em, and remember this, everybody loves to feel sorry for themselves." One of my favorite sayings. Good day Ladies and Gentlemen.

40 years ago, as a young college kid going to Fisk University in Nashville, one of my summers jobs was as a laborer at a construction site. I worked with this old white carpenter and EVERY WORK DAY ALL DAY Hank Williams is ALL we listened to. After the second day or so I realized HW is really very good. From time to time I still listen. I'm no expert, but contemporary CW artists can't hold a candle to HW.

My thoughts exactly, most modern country is spoiled sons of country boys. Most modern country singers don't know what it means to be country, or what country is about. Country isn't about getting in a lady's panties, it isn't about jacked up trucks, bass boats, or beer. It's about the hard scrabble life, but doing what you can with what you have. It's about helping your fellow man, and loving one another. And at times, it's about pouring your heart out for the hard times that aile you. It's from the soul.
@augustgreig94208 жыл бұрын
Country is a lot like hip hop. It is a grass roots music, founded in uneducated, impoverished people. Unfortunately, they have both suffered the same fate, going from sincerity and fun, to "I have women, I have money, do this dance"etc., etc.

Between sets at one particular jazz club on NYC's 52nd St, Parker would drop a couple of quarters in the jukebox and order up a batch of HW songs. Partied like a Rockstar before it was popular. Bottom line Pain shots & Alcohol don't mix. He wasn't a bad guy, just an Alcoholic with bad back problems.

I don't even like that phrase. It makes it sound cool when it's really just dumbassery. Take John Bonham and Keith Moon. Both aspirated (breathed in) their own vomit while unconscious. As I recall it. Not at all glamorous. Should mention, it's better to be sober. Quit while you're ahead if you got any sense. Talk to a doctor and get a proper detox, as doing it on your own can kill you.
@doxy40163 жыл бұрын
There's no proof Williams was ever actually sacked from the Opry. He was, technically, on leave until he could get his drinking sorted out. Williams didn't want to go back because Opry performers had to be available to play. whether booked or not at the Ryman on Saturday night. Williams wanted to tour, plus he was getting much more money from the Louisiana Hayride.

This type of music is what I think is true country music. Singing about the types of lives these people had, not some pop mix about how great the beach is or whatever other auto tune stuff they have these days. I know musical tastes change, but today most "country" is pop music or pandering to "patriots" or whatever. Listen to the lyrics of older country musicians, listen to 16 tons, tons of these songs are about how the rich get richer and everyone else stays the same. Old country music was about the plight of the average man, no matter who he was in society. Nixon once invited Johnny Cash to the whitehouse where he had asked Cash to perform "Okee from Miskogee" and "Welfare Cadillac" the first being a song that Nixon obviously didn't get the irony of, and the second a rather bad taste song about how people on welfare must be cheating the system. Cash responded "Well, I don't know those songs Mr. President, but I can play some of my own" he proceeded to play "What is Truth?", "Man in Black"-a song about the plighwt of the downtrodden, even containing the line "Each week we lose a hundred fine young men". It was the classiest F You to a politician. Old country and Western music was written for the people, it wasn't perverted into propaganda.
@barbarawildforster85944 жыл бұрын
He changed country music in such a short life. His music influences singers even today in 2020. His son is also an incredible singer, song writer, musician. The first Hank Williams I heard was Ramblin' Man, I really liked it, so I wanted to hear his other work. And I must say, I am a big fan of Hank. I'm always happy I find these artists the right way: by listening to them from an LP, a record store, any natural way than the television. But, I am also happy a new audience like my generation is having an interest in Hank, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and all the other real musicians.

Hands down still to this day the most influential and intelligent country western song writer and performer to ever cry their heart and soul...the true king of country music..I would of loved to have been stacked knee deep in that packard limosine with Hank Sr.,Don William,and Sammy Pruitt doing nothing but riding everyday and partying and performing everynight...lol..the best song or story I have ever came across that explains Hank Sr is "ballad of hank williams" by hank jr and don William..

Ahhh god I could quote so much from this scene in TLoU but I won't. Gotta love anything from that amazing game. The words in this and Alone and Forsaken fit what's going on in the game so well.
