Love this!! Country boys can survive no doubt. But so can country girls. We can shoot it, skin it, and cook it to perfection. We plant it, can it, store it. We also know how to cook on the fire and in the ground. We can take care of our families. It's what we do.

Since you reacted to Buck Owens and you want to get into some more country, you should listen to Dwight Yoakam. He looked up to Buck Owens and had a "Bakersfield " style to his music. He had tons of hits: "Guitars and Cadillacs", "Little Sister","Fast as You" and even did a duet with Buck Owens on"Streets of Bakersfield "

A Country Boy Can Survive Hank Williams Jr. The preacher man says it's the end of time And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry The interest is up and the stock market's down And you only get mugged if you go downtown I live back in the woods you see My woman and the kids and the dogs and me I got a shotgun, a rifle and a four-wheel drive And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I can plow a field all day long I can catch catfish from dusk 'til dawn (Yeah) We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too Ain't too many things these old boys can't do We grow good-ole tomatoes and homemade wine And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Because you can't starve us out and you can't make us run 'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns We say grace, and we say ma'am If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn We came from the West Virginia coal mines And the Rocky Mountains, and the western skies And we can skin a buck, we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I had a good friend in New York City He never called me by my name, just Hillbilly My grandpa taught me how to live off the land And his taught him to be a businessman He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights And I'd send him some homemade wine But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife For 43 dollars, my friend lost his life I'd love to spit some Beech-Nut in that dude's eyes And shoot him with my old .45 'Cause a country boy can survive Country folks can survive 'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run 'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns We say grace, and we say ma'am If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn We're from North California and South Alabam' And little towns all around this land And we can skin a buck, and run a trotline And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive A country boy can survive Country folks can survive

I'm 30. Hank Williams Jr, and his dad, Hank Williams Sr, are two of my top favorite artists. Both are legends in the genre. Both also have a lot of great hits. This song is almost like an anthem to southerners and rural folk. You'd be hard pressed to find someone rural who hasn't heard this. I don't listen to this particular track as much anymore, simply because I've heard it so many times growing up. How a lot of artists have that 1 particular song that most people know or think of when they think about that artist, this is that track for Hank Jr. I highly prefer country made before the 2000's, and I don't care how old it is. Good music is good music. I stopped listening to modern country, because I generally don't like the sound or the overall theme or content of the song. Every once in awhile I'll come across something new that I like, but it's usually something that's more underground.

If you continue to do more country songs, you really should do several by George Strait. He is known as the “King of country” and has more #1 hits than any other country artist (60 #1s). His biggest and best known songs were in the 80s and 90s. Some classics I would suggest are: The Chair, Amarillo By Morning, You Look So Good in Love, Fool Hearted Memory, Love Without End Amen, Carried Away, Cross My Heart, Nobody in His Right Mind Would Have Left Her, Ocean Front Property, Check Yes or No,

I like Jr’s songs, but I’m a big fan of his father. His father was a wordsmith genius and there was more to his songs, his lyrics then just on the surface. Sadly though his father died young, leaving Jr when he was very young. Hank Williams (Sr) was one of the first artist that made an impression on me when I was very young, earliest memory because he was prevalent on AM radio, well before the rock era took over.

He played it once at an all black club and one of his friends asked him why he played it. He said the same thing you did, it was the story) (early 60's late 50's) Sixteen Tons-Tennessee Ernie Ford-this is a classic (60's) Big Bad John-Jimmy Dean (60's) Devil Went Down to Georgia-Charles Daniels (70's) I apologize if you've reviewed these songs already. I know this will be considered NOT politically correct.... Please.... Don't take offence, anyone. Let's all keep it light here.... "Country music is White Boy Blues." That's what one of the only 3 "negroes" in my highschool said about it(Yes Canadian slice of life1970.) When I was young (50-60s) the only " person of colour" in country was Charlie Pride. You do have a point about the lyrics of country being about the day to day life of the average person, not about big houses and fancy foreign cars. I did have a bit of a moment when we were flashed with a Confederate flag belt buckle but unfortunately there is a segment of the fan base who identify more with "live free or die" and we better stockpile the ammo and tinned goods for Armageddon. Being from a farming family, having to pick off a few gofers and rabbits, knowing a fair number of Mohawk, I get the idea of gun ownership and survival up in the north (black bears are damn big). Living off the land does tend to make a realist of you. Mother nature can be a harsh lady. Although on the other hand I do know a few metal fans, and some progressive nerds with similar outlooks. Being at heart a progressive folky, I prefer a small patch of vegetables, catch and release traps and a beware of dog sign.
