I much as i love Hanna karlzon i dont think this is her best book. I liked the style of her older books better and hope one day she will decide to go back to that style!

I originally wasn’t excited about this one when I head the theme (not a fan of fish and mermaids) but I actually love a good number of the illustrations in this one, so I do plan on ordering it. I agree with you though about preferring the original size of books.

I’m still so surprised she was able to get these out with her condition! I just preordered the US one which doesn’t come out until Jan 2024, but I’m fine waiting. I’m on the fence with how I feel about this one to be honest lol.

Unpopular op coming here too - I haven’t touched a Hanna in years and this is the exact reason - I prefer her older format - older size - older illustrations - but that being said I did order as I’m loyal 😅😂 - however I didn’t look properly - I’m not into the Ancient Rome / Greek theme and the underwater pillars / statues personally - I love her art and her imagination but this one isn’t crying out at me ! …. I know she’s had a tough year with health & for that even producing something I take my imaginary hat off to her - but I had a proper flip on my own yesterday when Ellie went to bed and I wasn’t blown away either

Hi Debbie I've found that if you find the centre of the book and very gently bend the book so the 2 covers meet together and your pictures are facing you the book will lie flat and you can colour in the spine but be very gentle because it works for me and I can get right into the spine. Hope this is a helpful tip happy colouring. Kind regards Samxx.

I really like the crane with the jewel at the start of the book, and one or two of the others look interesting, but I'm not a huge one for colouring fish and underwater things so I'm not going to spend the money on the book just to have the lovely bird pictures. What a shame they're not available separately on her etsy page! I've got some of her other books waiting to be coloured too

Hi Debbie, thank you for sharing this new book which has helped me make my decision as to buy or not and sadly it's the latter for me. I wish also the books were like the older versions as not a fan on the slimmed down smaller books at all, I have two only. Do not like the spine issue either and not feeling the book and certainly would not pay what you did either. I have to say well done to Hannah for doing this book with everything she has going on in her life and I wish her all the best. 🥰🥰

There are some beautiful illustrations in this book, and I look forward to colouring a number of pages. However, I am a bit underwhelmed by all of the fish. I suppose there are only so many ways to render drawings of fish, but I still have not recovered from "Lost Ocean". Given the theme, I should have expected lots of fish! Not slating Hanna Karlzon or Johanna Basford, only expressing an opinion . We were all spoiled by the sheer volume of drawings in Hanna's earlier books, but I do know that they were really expensive to print. I remember a post confirming that going forward, the books would be in the slimmer format. Thanks for the flip through. I have ordered the book and know what to expect ❤

I actually love the smaller size for her “tales from” series! It feels a bit less intimidating to me lol. I do hope that there will be more full size books in the future as well though

I got mine from here it came yesterday but I’ve not looked at it yet . I’m still missing the city one that came out I’m going to have to get it to complete collection . I do love the original books and there size better .

I only have one, the witch themed one.. and I've never colored in it. It's the hardcover that's the problem. I spiral bind all my books so they lay nice and flat and I can flip them over and only have one page at a time.. I color on my lap in bed. I have pretty severe arthritis and sit at a desk 50 hrs a week at work so the last thing I want to do is sit at a desk at home. I do like her illustrations, although I find them quite repetitive across books. I wish she offered softcover. RJ Hampton finally released higher quality paper version of his books too.. and I was so excited until I saw they were hardcover. I'm sure they are lovely but fussing with the pages and trying to get into the bent spine area takes much of the enjoyment out of coloring for me. Bulldog clips help, and you can pad them if you are worried about denting the paper. I also have a large drawing board with big rubber bands that do a decent job of strapping down a book... but once I started spiral binding it was such a relief. No fuss, no pages falling out over time.

I will get it, but I am overly bored with the underwater/mermaids theme. I will get it because if I had to have another book in that theme, I would want it to be by Hannah. I wish she would do just an insect book. Her insects are so pretty.

I’m with you: I actually have grown bored with her work; much too “same-y”. How many times do I want to color the same exact women’s faces(crooked noses, flat chests and all!), the same bugs/flowers/jewels etc. Yaaaaawn. I like VARIETY. I stopped getting her books after the witch one; I too also dislike the new smaller format. Her space-themed one had me getting hopeful(because not many actually lovely space-themed adult coloring books out there, and Space/Sci-fi is one of my BIG LOVES), but…I was sooooooo disappointed. Really, the SAME old cottages etc. just transplanted to a new world/moon?? Ugh. How’s that for an unpopular opinion? Lol. Don’t get me wrong: I hold a soft spot in my heart for her older books and have collected most. But nope! This book also had me hoping….alas, the undersea and mythological worlds are another set of themes right up my alley, but once again…her same style, no changes(except maybe for the style of some fish). Ho-hum. Thanks for the honest review; I too shan’t be buying this one. M Happy coloring!

I love books like creative haven or Mythographic where they have the borders and don't go into the spine. I can't stand pictures that go right to the edge. They are so hard to color lol

I actually love it. I really like the new format too. But it does look like this one has been printed too hard into the spine. I wonder if the UK print will be the same. I like her new style of people and I love the under water scenes. But I can see why you would not be so happy with it. You like the bigger spaces so that you can really be free with watercolours and do amazing things. These books almost seem to be steering us into the direction of pencils rather than mixed media. That suits me as I am a pencil girl. But I love watching what you can do with water mediums. They are definitely thiner books.

Agree... prefer the original format and feel the books are too samey now and have too many filler pages, especially for their size... sad as I love her work but this one only has a few pages that interest me ❤

It’s still a nice book but she is going smaller and smaller. Not fan of not able to color so far in the spine. It seems she rushed into it. I also wish she move away from gems, bugs, yellyfish, and women with stars in the face. Innovation pls!

True the faces got too samey for me. One or two in each book is quiet enough. Not this copy- paste style of artwork with multiple same-ness

I am not sure about this one but I certainly did not love the last one City among the stars I have still not done anything in that one none of the pages stand out. It’s a shame because the titles sound fab Thanks for the flip thru xx

Gotta say, I’m not keen on this book either. Then again, I’m not the hugest fan. I just have 2 of her hard cover books, and they are Soul Mates and Tales From The Witches Cottage. I love those books. I also have her Party book that I like. xo

I love your completed coloring pages I always follow your work looking at your techniques to learn from. I have to agree with you on this hannah karlzon book, Majority of these pictures are not my taste. She has better illustration in her other books. I can't believe this 'Atlantis' book it is so expensive. Especially as it is so much smaller than her other books and the annoyance and difficulty to colour at the edge of the picture near the spine. 😠

i dont mind the new format but for me this one and the city in the stars one dont quite work. some pages seem kinda off theme like they weren't drawn specifically for the book just put in to make the pages up. she is still my favourite though.

I love Hanna too but I don't like this new format at all, I have all of the first ones and only one of the new edition. Unfortunately I really don't like them.

I am not not a fan of mandalers and in Rita Bermans new book she has alot of them . very dispointed . glad I didnt get it. Happy coloring
