I have to say, as an autistic person it is so nice and so beautiful to see another autistic person being welcomed with open arms for being their full authentic self. In many of our experiences, it's rare to be received so well and so respectfully from another person. It's especially amazing to see it happen on such a large stage. For the first time I feel represented and it warms my heart. I also really feel like more people would really vibe more with autistic people if they gave us a chance and got past their weird hang ups and misconceptions about us
@anjilala4 жыл бұрын
"gave us a chance and got past their weird hang-ups and misconceptions about us" YES! Atypical ppl are actually so often so narrow minded in general. it would do them a world of good to open up to non-conforming perspectives. People do sometimes conform to the most ridiculous things too and are surprised when ASD people don't want to join them in behavior that, with some reflection could be seen to be cruel and/or unhealthy

@LateNightwithStudBuyers2 жыл бұрын
We don't need to apologize for who we are. When we feel like we have to apologize, it's because we have been brainwashed into apologize for who we are, how we think, how communicate, and basically for breathing. @wildflower13972 жыл бұрын
I absolutely support those struggling with neurodiversity. However, I do believe we often say sorry or excuse me when we don't clearly understand what someone is saying. @@BeeWhistler Thank you for the term Allistic. I had been using "neurotypical" up to now, but they are not, they are even more diverse as a group than we are. So allistic seems appropriate. Wondering about the capital, though. I think --- people is a nice addition. You cannot get autistic dogs, so dogs are definitely included in the all of allistic (I know it stands for allos, meaning other, I looked it up, but I just read it as short for "all others" in my mind and I think most people will do). So "allistic people" narrows it down nicely, because you can have allistic animals, unlike autistic animals. I am a bit suspicious of this culture of counter-labeling. Cisgendered, priviliged, you know, that kind of thing. Do we need more words to say that we are all different? That everybody can be put in a little box eventually? It seems a bit divide and conquer. I think it´s from the bible: do unto others, that which you don´t like them doing to you. An eye for an eye, leaves everybody blind.

She was raped as a child, and does have little good to say of men who harass and assault and mistreat women and girls. Picasso was one. The #metoo movement has opened many eyes to the huge scope of the issue. Statistics say you know a few women who have been assaulted or harassed. Hannah speaks out hard because she suffered and is suffering because her experience was severe. I think it would be hard to forgive those who hurt her and those who told her to put up and be quiet, because men are entitled to treat woman however they please. Sorry if you’ve felt upset, because you’re not an abuser, and might even speak out against misogyny, but just because you exist...and good for you....nothing significant will be done until the scope and enormity of the issue is taken seriously. I understand Hannah not being “fair” , because stifling her hard words is denying her right to speak to her truth, which was horrific. And #metoo, btw.

@Brian Mull I disagree. Comedy is a amazing platform of truth, holding a mirror up to society. It can be shallow, deep, profound, but also cheeky in it's ability to convey a message to the masses without shoving it down peoples throat. Hannah, in Nanette shone a mirror to society and shoved her message right down our throat - some people laughed and cried (others thought it was shit)- and based on viewing numbers worked for most. You don't have to find it funny. But the majority of people still define it as comedy. I don't think racist and sexiest comedy is funny, but I acknowledge it as a comedic art. That fact you call Hannah "he" without knowing her preferred pronoun, indicates a disdain for her existence and not interested a nuanced discussion of "what is comedy".

I love Hannah Gadsby.💜 So many fireworks have gone off in my brain from listening to her comedy specials. She’s a beautiful light in the world. Also, Stephen Colbert, if she’s ever on your show again and wears her octopus pin asks her questions about it. She connects it beautifully to being on the spectrum.🐙💜🌈

Anthony Whelan to each their own. I personally have thought for over a decade she’s funny AF. Her dry weird humour is very Aussie. She is definitely Awkward, that’s part of her charm. Especially since she actually is on the Autism Spectrum. Pretty brave even for neurotypical people let alone someone with Aspergers. Not everyone is gonna laugh at the same things but she is pretty popular globally now and all comedians love her too.
