I have watched and read much about this amazing lady. She was so humble and still generous of spirit even though she never had the trappings of someone far richer financially. Yet she was richer is so many other ways, in compassion, in heart and in spirit. How could you not have wished this lady just the best she could have. She moved from her treasured family home and left her animals behind for others to look after so that they didn’t go to slaughter as she loved them so much. I can remember watching this when I was younger with my Nan when I was little and even then fascinated by Hannah. Ironically my Nan lived up north when she was a little girl and spoke with Hannah’s accent. Hannah reminds me of my Nan RIP Hannah hauxwell

i met this wonderfull woman in the early 1990s when i was a bairn i had my photo taken with her she was a lovely kind welcoming lady not a lass or a woman she was a true lady with so much heart and kindness society should live like hannah did we have nothing to complane for in reality we have heating ,electric ,water, baths ,showers, even a toilet etc etc etc yes covid is rife but that poor poor woman never complained of her hardships lonely on the farm for years we should all take note of hannah and be more like her. forget internet , phones , pubs , clubs , cafes , etc etc just be gratefull for what we have society would be so much better. god bless you hannah a true legend.

I grew up very close to where Hannah lived and truth is that she really wasn't interested in modern life and the trappings associated with it. After "Too long a Winter", she had electricity connected and all sorts of stuff; TV's and so on, sent to her. Most of these remained in their boxes and the residents of the dale used to say that Hannah only switched on the electric lights to make it easier to light the oil lamps. She wasn't the only dale resident to lead a similar lifestyle.

Hannah was an inspirational woman who showed us the very best of humanity - humility, kindness, generosity, compassion, loyalty, and much more.... her love for the Dales, her family, her farm, her animals and her home showed her passion for the simple life.... in a troubled world Hannah is still a guardian angel who left this world a better place.... Hannah’s Meadows will be there in a 1,000 years time inspiriting future generations.... Hannah is gone but NEVER forgotten. Thank you Hannah.... at peace🌺🌺🌺

What attracted me to this was that I had ancestors born in Hauxwell in the Dales and wondered if there were a connection. Hauxwell is in the general area with other ancestors from the Barnard Castle and surrounds, and a few miles north of Barnard Castle. The last of my line born in the area was my grandfather, who was born 10 years before Hannah. His mother's side were farmers from the Hauxwell-Barnard Castle area. His father's side came from a long line of miners and mine blacksmiths.

Why couldn't they have refurbished the farm for Hannah. Even a small section so she could live her life out in the dales she loved. Very sad to give her a shabby little cottage
@DCFelix675 жыл бұрын
Who is 'they'? They didn't give her the cottage. She sold the farm and bought the house, which was in a village in the Dales. She downsized, like a lot of people do.

Yes I agree ,I hear what your saying ,it would have been nice to have done that for Hannah ,it was her home ,but I feel deep down Hannah was lonely ,she was very very cut off from people? In those cold cold winters ,it's a tough one I know ,because I think ?,Hannah ostrich some of her sparkle, years on after moving ,bless her,I hope her ghost ,is roaming the dales ,a bit like wuthering heights ,when Kathy, done the same ,thing after her demise with the moors !!!

Dawn Taylor Lots of people enjoy solitude. I’m blind and live alone with my guide dog, some chickens and my veggie and fruit garden. I’m never lonesome here. I only feel lonely in crowded places where there are strangers that I don’t know and won’t see again. I don’t know why anyone would want to live right beside other people! I’d hate having close neighbours. I like visiting with my family that I live dearly but I don’t want to meet strangers and I don’t know why anyone would. I love working on my little homestead at my own pace and doing exactly what I like. Moving into a town or apartment would be my nightmare.
@BlookbugIV2 жыл бұрын
Her cottage was only shabby because she’d lived with make-do-and-mend for so long she couldn’t throw anything out. It was in truth a great little place in a nice village. There were no supermarkets or much in the way of packaging back in the day. For example we used to buy butter loose wrapped in paper, but later in life she’d accumulated stacks of yellow plastic butter spread tubs. If she’d grown up without want there’s little doubt she’d have been better able to keep her place nice, but that wasn’t her story.
