I think we were all meant to meet Hannah to teach a greedy materialistic generation that happiness can be found in nature and by living a simple life. She was so humble that she didn’t realise the effect she would have on the public. I loved her. RIP you wonderful lady of the fells

Hi Catherine, the thing that stands out most about Hannah is that she was very happy with life. When she first move into the farm in the 1920's there was plenty of people around her. What a fabulous place to live as a child with all the comings and goings of family life but one by one the happy family that surrounded her died, Hannah was left alone. Hannah had a fantastic love for her animals they were a great comfort to her especially her cow Rosa who she would cuddle up to too keep warm on some very cold winter nights in the Dales. Hannah never married or even had a boyfriend but confessed that she hoped a rugged fella would come over the fell but resigned herself to the fact it probably wouldn't happen. I would like to think that Hannah's books and life story should be compulsory reading for all the schools in England just to show people that you do not need a lot to be happy. Have a great Christmas all the best The Taxi Driver

I learned of Hannah Hauxwell yesterday. I've watched each video and have been deeply touched. Currently, we are living in a time of unrest. Watching this lady's resolve to live a solitary life was somehow very comforting. Her kindly countenance and soft voice drew me to her. She was a grand and noble woman. She might have been viewed as poor and strange while she was alive, but with the ability now to see her on film, I can't help but think she was a uniquely gifted human being. Surely, while she lived, she would never have guessed how many people's lives she would touch.

What a beautiful tribute to an astounding lady.. I remember watching Hannah, with my Mum & Dad, on our black n white telly.. We were spell-bound, and also loved it when she explored the wider world.. A Truly wonderful lady indeed.. Warm, humorous, never negative.. A free and strong spirit, who loved where she lived, even if it was a harsh life.. I shed a few tears when she had to sell up, when she said goodbye to Rosa, Rosa's Daughters and the Calves, all she had was her little dog... I am so glad Hannah has such a moving reminder of her life and love of the Yorkshire Dales..

Thank you Sally Ann, when we first heard of Hannah's death in 2018 we decided we would go there and make a walk the following week, but as the week wore on and we started watching some of her videos we realised the best way to do Hannah's memory justice was to wait until July when Hannah's flower meadows would be in full bloom and try and tell her story as we walked. Hannah as you have said was a warm, humorous and very friendly person who could see no bad in anything. Though she led a lonely life in the Yorkshire Dales she always had her animals for company where as when she stayed in London even with all the people about she found it very lonely and was glad to go back to Yorkshire. Over the years while we have been filming we have come across some very sad stories and Hannah's by today's standards was no different but by Hannah's standard she had a wonderful life and was very upset to leave the farm when the time came. It took us most of the day to film this walk because everytime we said a bit more or thought about it we had to keep stopping to take a few more deep breaths but at the end of the walk and as we were editing we came to realise that Hannah had what most people are looking for today, a very peaceful and happy life. All the best Taxi Driver

Hello George, when we started to walk and make our film of Hannah's life we thought it would be quite easy. It was an easy walk round the reservoirs we had our notes in front of us and the weather was glorious but as I started to tell her story with the opening lines that Hannah was then just aged 46 with the strikingly white hair of a much older woman and that Hannah had spent more than a decade alone eking out a meager living from its 80 acre of land it soon became very hard. The more I thought about the hardships she had been through the more a lump kept appearing in my throat. Hannah had an uncomplaining acceptance of hardship and she concluded that it created a wonderful spirit in the community, 'everybody helps everybody else' she said. It was a fantastic story to tell especially as we walked the fields and meadows that Hannah had walked. We like to think that this film was a fitting tribute to Hannah. All the best John and Janice

Hi Sunrise seven, with a fantastic summer this year it really showed off Hannah's meadow at it best and it really does show how herbicides and pesticides etc if not used properly can kill off a lot of our native plants. I am pleased to say that as we go travelling round the country we see more and more meadows like Hannah's. With farmers leaving their hedges uncut until after the birds have nested and wider grass margins around the edges of fields we really do think most farmers are making a big effort to encourage wildlife back on to their land. Hannah was and still is a big inspiration to a lot of people. All the best The Taxi Driver.

Thanks for your comment Stuart. When we heard about the death of Hannah Hauxwell in February we went up there to take a look but soon realised we could not do her life story justice by filming it in the winter time. The place where she lived was so cold and uninviting that we decided to wait until the wild flowers in her meadow were in full bloom. The main thing we learnt from telling Hannah's story was that money and possessions meant nothing to her she was just happy with the simple things in life. She attended a Royal garden party in honour of the Queen Mothers 80th birthday celebrations but ultimately found London lonely, it was nice for a while but she needed to be quiet and to get back to the hills. We are very pleased that our film has had a great response and we don't think we will ever come across another story like this again. All the best The Taxi Driver

Hi Sunrise, sorry for not replying sooner this must be one we missed with being very busy working over the christmas period. Hannah seemed very happy with the simple things in life even when she went away filming for the TV she was soon eager to get back to the quietness of the hills. This was a fabulous walk but not an easy story to tell, at every shot I had to stop and take a deep breath before I could start talking. Over the wall just in front of the big dam at the back of Hannah's house there was an old disused toilet block when I open the door out of curiosity there were five baby rabbits no more than two weeks old huddled together on the concrete floor in the corner but before I could film them they were gone. I am sure Hannah would of loved that moment if she had seen it. Thanks for your comment all the best The Taxi Driver

I am left thinking that there are many, many people in this world alone like Hannah was, in many different countries, all living their life in remote places. None will be known off, they live their lives up remote mountains in India, the outback of Australia, the Steppes of Russia. Many, many lives, that just live and will be the last of their tribe or family.

Hi Farmer 2003, thank you. We were very sad to hear Hannah had died. We decided to wait until the flower meadows around her farm were at their best before we filmed this. Trying to tell her story was sad but very uplifting. Hannah seemed to be a very happy soul. The response to this video has been fantastic. All the best The Taxi Driver

Hi Johnson's Decision, Hannah Hauxwell was truly a remarkable woman. She found happiness in the simple things in life even though in the harsh winters it was very difficult for her living 1,000 foot up in the high dales without the modern facilities we have today. Even when she left the farm she only moved a few miles down the road to Cotherstone. From there she went on to an old people's home where she died early this year. People of our generation have always known about Hannah Hauxwell but reading her life story as we were making this film really brought it home to us what a remarkable life she had. After she was discovered by Yorkshire Television she travelled a lot and even met the Queen but she was only really happy in the Dales. The video we made was very sad but inspiring at the same time, we hope when we go back to Romaldkirk to visit her grave next year that she will have a proper headstone. All the best for Christmas The Taxi Driver

Hi Limgiga, Hannah Hauxwell certainly had an amazing life, by today's standards it's hard to believe. July is the best time to visit Hannah's Meadow when all the wildflowers are at their best. If you tap in Hannah Hauxwell on your internet you will find a lot of sites from videos to write ups and pictures that tell the story of Hannah and how she lived etc. All the best The Taxi Driver

Hi Graham, it's amazing that it is nearly a year since Hannah departed. We are very grateful that you have told us about your meeting with Hannah in 1983 even though it was a brief conversation and then to meet her twice more is something special. When you look at how beautiful the setting at Low Birk Hatt Farm overlooking the reservoir where she drew her drinking water from and the hay barn above Hannah's Meadow which is now a fantastic memorial to Hannah and her life, set up by Durham Wildlife Trust, the place where we sat and had a cup of tea, it was so peaceful with skylarks and lapwings flying around, it is easy to see how Hannah love it so much. We think this is a great family walk for a summers day. Just down the road a few miles is the beautiful village of Romaldkirk where there are two lovely local pubs on the green for a drink and an evening meal and further down the road at the cemetary you can pay your respects to Hannah. Thank you once again all the best The Taxi Driver

It so very fabulous that they left her property to be a Nature Reserve ! She would be so pleased , a very nice way to remember a fantastic original Lady Hanna ! She said “ if people see a person roaming thew the fields after my death that will be my ghost “ ! Hannas with Jesus Now , getting her relaxation all the pleasures she didn’t have in life , she never complained, just appreciated every sing little this she was blessed with ,that others couldn’t imagine living life that way them selves , but Hanna was so happy and appreciated everything small in her live , smallest things , and everything threw her eyes was very beautiful !

God Bless Hannah. Certainly difference from how people are in today's violent society. Women with no self respect and dignity constantly half naked pushing themselves on to men. She was from a generation that was far more dignified and respectable. They worked hard too.

It's really too bad that there wasn't even one person who would help her , to make her life bet easier in harsh winter times. My love goes to Hanna's sweet and kind spirit.

What an amazing Lady …. the Mold that made Hannah would be lost now and that saddens me as Hannah was the perfect example of a Perfect Lady. …. Maybe Yorkshire Television or the BBC can do something about giving Hannah a nice Head Stone. Hannah deserves this, let's face it the Television Stations would have made enough on the TV programmes to do that for Hannah. at least.

Hi Emma, the one thing that came across while we were trying to tell Hannah Hauxwell's story was how happy she was with the simple things in life. We found it hard to tell her story and had to keep stopping to take a deep breath. Hannah went down to London to attend the Royal garden party in aid of the Queen Mothers 80th birthday and stopped in a posh hotel, after a while she found London very lonely. Nobody said hello as they would in Yorkshire she said and was glad to get back to the peace and quiet of the hills. I work nights driving a cab round the streets of York and I come across a lot of lonely people especially at Christmas time. Because I am an older driver and don't have the need to rush about all the time I do try to make an effort to listen if someone needs to get something off their chest. I don't know what the answer is to being lonely but I certainly think you have made a good start by sending your message. Sometimes peoples family members have their own problems and don't see what is happening around them. I hope anybody reading this message and who feels lonely at this time of year will drop you a line even if it is only to say Merry Christmas. A big Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from The Taxi Driver

I live in Cornwall and it is a very community spirit here compared to London where there’s no eye contact or cares for others living around you. I’ve also been to Yorkshire three times and fell in love with the dales and villages and people . I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Healthy Happy New Year 💖

Hannah Hauxwell was at that place most 'Christians' strive to get to all their lives, but never make it because they think they are something special because they read their bible and go to church every Sunday, infact what most of them do is look down on other people because you dont fit into their 'moral compass', Hannah Hauxwell was the personification of a truly loving, kind, humble human being.
