Lyrics: I'm a Barbie Girl living in a man's world. They think I'm plastic it's fantastic. They think that they can stare, undress me anywhere. "It's just romantic, stop being dramatic" I'm a Barbie Girl living in a man's world. I should feel lucky just being their understudy. I'm a Barbie Girl don't stand a chance in this man world. Imagination life is your creation. Come on Barbie let's go party wear whatever makes you happy. Come on Barbie need no army do whatever makes you happy. Come on people let's be real I'm not saying you're to blame. Come on people let's be real, the world is ours to change I'm a Barbie Girl living in a man's world. You're a Barbie Girl if not then it's still your world, to make a difference, it's our existence.

I think the original barbie girl song was not unfemisint itself. I see it as a satyre, a woman playing into a man's view of her, the ultra-feminine and submissive eye-candy. Playing as if it's a happy reality when in fact it's "life in plastic" - it's fake. (This is not a critique of this version, this is really good!)
@rloach067

agreed, i feel like if you just listen closely to the lyrics you can easily interpret it as very satirical and actually a very sinister song clearly condemning what is talking about by making it sound ridiculous in the juxtaposition of the theme and the cheeriness of the rhythm. Kinda like "springtime with hitler" and such

I agree that to a grown-up might seem satyrical if you take a deeper look. But Barbie Girl has always been a catchy song for young girls and for sure they don't have the ability to see beyond the surface of the lyrics. And I don't think there are lots of adults who would consider either explaining the real message or just ban the song completely to their children.
@agnetebutk
@agnetebutk 3 жыл бұрын
@@mariacg8016 I guess but also, I didn't think a man could "undress me everywhere" when i was little. i took it literally and thought she was singing from a perspective of an actual barbie doll, who's clothes you can change in a middle of a scene you're playing - undress her everywhere.

Not even the song but Barbie herself was a really strong women. She was rich asf, had all sorts of degrees, by no means plastics, she was pretty, privilege, but also educated and extremely intelligent, she could compete with men and even out smart them and beat them at their own games, the main theme song may have been shitty but Barbie herself was anything but a fragile girl and could handle herself and would by no means sing such a disgraceful song.

being sexually assaulted for years in my own household made my mind corrupted. i thought that making myself look ugly would change their perspective of me. but no, whatever you look like, if you're a woman or even if you're a man they would do such absurd things to you just to satisfy their desires.

At my old apartment complex, they hired security to scare off lurkers. One late night I get home and the security guard approaches me, questions me, and I think, "alright, standard stuff, just wants to make sure I'm not lurking." At this point I've confirmed I'm a resident, but he starts shifting the conversation to "are you single?" and "do you live alone?" and "can I come over?" He started pressing me for my number and I realized I couldn't give him a fake one because he was standing right there and he wanted to confirm I was actually giving him something. I went back to bed and held a knife under my pillow, just thinking because I couldn't sleep, scared of the possibility that he would waltz right into my place and do something really scary. As a guy it was this one experience that really put it into perspective for me how awful women are treated. Thankfully this was the scariest situation I've been in and it never really amounted to anything in the end, but it really takes tough skin and incredible mental strength to deal with this every single day of your life.

“It’s just romantic, stop being dramatic” Exactly what was said to me when I tried to report a boy who was stalking me when he wrote me 3 page long letters in red ink and attempted to break into my house. The police said it’s just a crush. I was refused counselling. He also dragged me into an empty field and attempted to rape me when I was 15 and he was 17, when we were friends in high school. After that I refused to talk to him, he would show up at my first job and wait for me outside, send me letters and stalked me on social media. My mums reaction was “What did YOU do for him to act like this?!” It’s a pretty horrible feeling. I recently learned from a girlfriend of mine that he is a maths teacher at an all girls school. I don’t know what to do. I feel like if I say something now, no one will believe me, just like before. But if I don’t do something, what if he does something to a girl at his school? I feel myself slipping.

@@murdermostdownunder3562 stay safe and make sure not to confront him alone or make your not alone with him and confront him when you do in a crowded place so he can’t hurt you. My story with such toxicity by adults was only Limited to elementary and middle school. I feel so disgusted even thinking about it now. There was this boy that used to bully me and when ever I’d tell an adult or teacher the responses would be that I was being dramatic that he maybe wanted to be friends with me or had a crush on me and didn’t know how to talk to me. Like this boy was calling me all sorts of humiliating names and bullying me and I was being dramatic. It really sucks that society Validates such behavior, like I now know that he was young and immature but those adults and teachers should’ve sit down with him and talked to him how his behavior was bad instead of telling me to stop being dramatic etc.

apparently we're sharing stories here so, here's mine. i'm a 13 year old female born, non-binary person. i live in a pretty bad neighborhood. near where i live, is a seven-eleven, on a street corner. across from that on one side, is a liquor store, and on the other side, is a bar. so, one day, me and my best friend, we'll call her sarah, were walking to seven eleven to buy some snacks and coffee, to pull an all-nighter since we had a bunch of homework. so, we get to seven-eleven, and i can immediately smell some sort of alcohol outside. there's about 5 middle-aged men, all outside. all drunk as sh*t. i decide, it's fine, i've been here a million times before, and nothing real bad has ever happened. just some comments, english and spanish as where i live there's a lot of people who speak spanish and porteugese, luckily i know spanish. so, in previous experiences, there were comments, and sometimes i would get brushed against on "accident" or a few times i've had my a*s touched or my bo*bs groped which was "just an accident" which i would always just go home immediately. so, this one time, with sarah, we go inside, and i notice a guy in a green shirt following us around the store. it's a pretty small store, maybe 4 or 5 small isles. we walk to the back, grab 2 iced coffee's and i again see the guy around the corner. i have very good eye-sight, and she doesn't. i just pay attention to detail more, and can listen to multiple conversations at once (very bad adhd). so, we get the coffee's and i hear the guy say something. "ven aqui, ninas" (come here little girls) and i panic. she doesn't speak spanish, so i just cough slightly. "c'mon! let's go look at some snacks!" i say, and we walk to the snack area. we grab some snacks and then go to the checkout, and he's right behind us at this point. we hold a conversation, as he starts to touch my shoulder and back. i try not to make a big deal, and just keep talking with her, because i don't want to freak her out. he grabbed my *ss, and i flinched slightly, and he says "sigueme" which means 'follow me'. i just ignore it, and we get up to the checkout. so we pay for our things, and quickly start walking home. i notice, i dropped my wallet in the store. so we walk back, and i grab my wallet, and we go back home. but this time, i've bent over, and it's caused him to idk want to touch me more, because i was wearing a skirt. so we start walking back home again, but this time he's following us. so i start to talk and make jokes with sarah, to make sure he knows we're not scared, though she still doens't know what's going on. so we're laughing, and eventually, we make it to my house. i notice he's still following so i turn down the road and keep walking, telling sarah 'i wanna walk for a while'. she agrees, and we keep walking, meanwhile, i text my dad. *hey dad, somebody's following us, we need help. just turned onto belmont.* (street name). so he runs out and yells at the dude, who is clearly really drunk. we run inside and i explain everything to sarah who starts crying, apologizing for not noticing it was happening. we end up having dinner and i've never told anyone since then. this was about a year ago, when i was barely 12, maybe still 11.

@@josephjoestar953 One should not exaggerate either, it depended a lot on the context. In the countryside, everyone had a hard life and women just had different tasks than men. In the bourgeoisie as well, women had power over the children and the home but no public influence. The real improvement is that now when there is a scandal we can act, whereas at the time I think domestic violence was considered rather normal.

As a 14 year old dude, I'm proud to say we absolutely despise modern feminism. It's absolutely outrageous and stupid. That said the concept of feminism at it's core is something we should've had forever. What I mean by that is feminism is slowly devolving into sexism against men. As a very defensive individual my reactions are a tad bit over the top but if you look at feminism anywhere you can kinda see it. That being said the idea of gender equality it beautiful.

Women were talk rape isn’t real, and they should shut up about it. I am in public schooling now, and there are various boys my age who have that mortality. I honestly feel so bad for women who have to deal with this daily. You guys are so strong to put up with men.

" It's just romantic stop being dramatic " The saddest part is that I've seen many women saying the same . " Catcalling is just they're appreciating your beauty , stop being a snowflake . " I feel like smacking their head to make them see the truth if they're being ignorant about it purposefully , and kick those who harass them. Edit : Because I totally forgot about the point of how some are brought up to think harassment as " appreciation " and " it's gonna happen because you're a woman "

@@ROSIE-sp1wx cause those people only watch porn and Hollywood shows and movies filled with sex scenes. They don’t know how to be romantic. It is taught behavior. I wish people would be more open to Asian romance shows and anime. You will see that Asian romance is poetic and sweet, no sex involved. Only words and sweet actions. You got English subtitles because Chinese and Korean dramas are getting very popular overseas. Especially older women love watching those shows I saw. Edit: the comment under mine has nothing to do with the Asian dramas and anime romance. Those dramas and anime are open minded and even Boys love anime/Donghua and drama are getting popular in Asia as the romance is super sweet and the story is amazing! Example: Heavens official blessing(Chinese animation. You can watch it on Netflix). It is a Boys love(gay). Very popular in Asia and overseas in the West. Another sweet good romance which is popular overseas and the story is amazing: THE ROMANCE OF TIGER AND ROSE. You can watch it on KZbin for free with English subtitles. It is about a girl who writes scenarios for series and suddenly she faints because of overwork. She suddenly got transported into her own novel and meets the handsome main character:a high general which is her enemy in the novel(she reincarnated as a villainess). Best drama ever, definitely watch it as your first Asian drama.

Since everyone is sharing here it’s mine, I was 14, I’m 15 now, I was going to take out the trash, I noticed a truck with two guys in tit that looked at me to see where I was going, I tried to stay calm and go to just take out the trash and come back home, however when I was doing it I saw the truck again (since they were going at first the opposite direction, they had to come back again doing a complete circle around my village, that’s why I knew they followed me) I started getting really anxious because I was some minutes away from my house, I left my phone home and I was in flip flops (Trust me, u can’t run fast with that) I tried to be calm and then I saw when I turned around how the truck blocked the path (as they saw me going out of my house, they knew were I lived, and that still creeps me out a lot) as I didn’t know what to do I just ran pass them while one tried to catch my arm and the other was saying gross things to me, They thankfully couldn’t take my arm so I started running as fast as I could, when I got home I was crying, shaking and I couldn’t breathe because I was having a panic attack. Like.. nobody is questioning the psychological damage that may occur by cutting child's penis at birth. Could it in some cases lead to resentment and violence? Nobody knows and nobody cares because its part of the culture. Same thing with rape.. we think that if we just tell children not to rape its all gonna be fine. So a few months ago this one time I was outside my house, waiting for my friend to come out and like one of our neighbours (he's a man in his 30/40's with two daughters of the same age as me; has some issues with his wife so he lives away with his parents) started staring at me while smoking and like I kind of have this weird 5th sense or whatever it's called and it helps me catch anyone staring at me and like I got a weird feeling of someone staring at me continuesly and I started getting creeped out cause the top that I was wearing, was a lil see through (thin enough for people standing super close to me can see some of my bra but usually I don't wear these kinda clothes). So I waited for about 10 more mins for my friend and then I got so damn creeped out, I came home running and my dad was like "sweetie what happened" and my mom also asked me "baby is everything okay?" And I couldn't even tell them what happened, cause if I did, my dad would've killed that man. I stayed quite and just went out again; my friend came out and I told her what happened. She said "dude don't worry nothing will happen! Yk na he can't do anything to you with all of us being on your side? And maybe it's a lil misunderstanding". I explained it to her that I had never felt my skin crawling in me like this, I've never felt so grossed out. But I let it be. A few days ago, I went to this wedding (usually weddings in my place are at night but this was in the afternoon), and like after reaching, we ate some food and I wasn't hungry much so I didn't ate as much. Later after sometime, I got my 5th sense kick in again; here he was some lame ass weirdo staring at me continuesly. I didn't mind as much but then he started coming close to me, so I simply went to other place. Then he started giving me signs like started pointing to the corner as if he wanted me to come to the corner with him and god knows what for. I got creeped out again. I told my friends to stand infront of me so that he doesn't stare at me. And the worst part is that they said "girl not every boy keeps staring at you, you're nothing special". It hurted me the most. I came home, changed my clothes and got in my warm bed and started crying. I cried a lot. I cried myself to sleep. And yk the biggest mistake I made? It was not to tell my mother what was happening. I really wish I could've told her about it. And it disgusts me to have gone through all of this. I wish I would've beaten every guy who dare to look at me in a nasty, creepy, weird and bad way. And most of all; I'm surprised that the girls of the family are still yet taught how to cover themselves up and how not to be a man's slave. But the men of the family can do anything they want to a woman. Like they can tough her where they shouldn't, they can manipulate her, make her hate herself and even kill her infront of everyone. And what does the society do about this? They take out their phones and record it, instead of helping the poor woman and punishing that man who has the guts, to do this to an angel who was just living her own life. And if anyone has been through all this and is still living, going on with their lives; baby I'm so proud of you!! You're the ultimate best!! You're a cutie!! You're really beautiful/handsome, amazing, talented and worth all the happiness coming your way!! Ilysm

Sorry that happened to you The friends part was very relatable because I had a friend in elementary school who always got bullied by others around her just for speaking Arabic and I would defend her all the time because unlike everyone else she was respectful and a kind person despite all the gross comments everyone said of her and I liked her the most easily. Yeah she and I never saw each other again because of us going to different high schools

I was 12, almost 13. It was 7:30, but it had started to get dark around 6. I was taking my dog for a walk, and I was scared to go out. I lived right across the street from my old Elementary school, so I decided to go there. As I was walking around, I noticed this one car driving around the school. I didn't think much of it, so I kept walking my dog. Then the car turned onto the street (to get to the school) and thought this was weird. (The school is in the middle of a circle of streets) The car kept circling the street, and I decided to walk against the wall and try to stay in the shadows. Then the car turned into the parking lot, trying to get where I was. I started running and the car started following me. Thankfully I was close to home and I got home. I started crying and I told my dad, and we turned off all the lights as the car drove past my street. I was so scared. (My dad was a cop) My dad then found out that the same car was following other girls my age, and asked one girl (who was 13) to go home with him and sleep with him. Stay safe.

it hurts to know that your partner in crime since birth has become the person that lusts over you and looks at you like it'll devour you at any moment is terrifying. believing that it's because of love due to the lack of knowledge, causing not to tell anyone. therefore, due to the things that have happened for the past years made my mind corrupted. and now seeing every man as a predator. the feeling of being violated, the need to cover your skin, to force yourself everyday is suffocating.

Secrets are spilling so here's mine: I was just 10 years old when my uncle molested me, it went on for almost a year. I didn't know it was wrong, I didn't even know wtf sex was. I was 13-14 when my friends and teachers started to talk about sex and everything that comes with it. When I realized what happened to me, I felt so dirty, I felt so stupid for not knowing that it was wrong. When my uncle died, I felt relieved, happy even.
