I think I may be the only one who has not tried ABH eyeshadow, I have no ABH palettes at all!. Out of all of their palettes, the new Norvina one caught my eye. I think it’s very pretty! I’m enjoying shopping my stash and getting use of what I have. I also have started a new project pan with specific products to use up by a certain date. These are products that I won’t be repurchasing because I have other products I can replace with from my collection. It will be a nice feeling of accomplishment to eventually finish these up!

Hannah, such a great video as always! I'm so glad you mentioned the Saddle Up lip gloss - I got it awhile ago and when it arrived, I just looked at it thinking "OH NO!!" Seeing the neon orange-coral type color; And then I shoved it at the back of a drawer (to deal with later) - not even remembering that it's a sheer wash of color which is perfect for summer. I paused you to go "rescue it" from that drawer and put it on! WOW both the color and feel of this gloss is so NICE; I'll be wearing this so much! Thank you!

Single eyeshadows are the best! My personal goal is to never purchase another pallet but to purchase only singles, because when rearranged they can feel brand new, and once you have a good collection of them you are able to dupe any new pallet that comes along that you might be lusting after:)

I feel the way you do about the ABH Mod Ren. The color story and the individual choices look really great as a concept. And then you start to use it and there are a lot of weak spots. Overall, the palette is okay, but just okay. More than anything else I think people love the lightest shade to just be a base, and the red shades. But there are such better formulas out there, which helps me feel good about resisting other ABH palettes, even on deep discount at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s. I really liked how you broke it all down so thoughtfully, it was a really great review.

Oh man looks like I'll be going from a 750 sq ft 1 bed + den to a ~600 sq ft 1 bed no den apartment in a month or so and your videos are keeping me strong on my goal of NO MORE NEW STUFF (I still want them even though I can't possibly fit it in the type of apartments I've been viewing). Haven't bought a single eyeshadow palette or blush since joining Makeuprehab which were both my biggest weaknesses and the biggest space stealers. Wish there was a version of your channel for action figures, magic the gathering cards, and video games so my boyfriend would stop purchasing those, too :P I felt bad but secretly relieved when our apartment's storage locker was broken into and most of his action figures stolen (shhh don't tell him).

Love your smokey bronze eye look! You don’t look haunted at all. I’m finding the same thing with my ABH palettes and singles. Especially the singles. I used Mermaid a couple days ago for a smokey green/blue look and I had to deploy the setting spray on a synthetic brush to even get the color to show on my lid. After a few hours, it had faded to a grey shade and creased pretty badly, even with my failsafe primer. I used to love their shadows, but I think I prefer Urban Decay. Even e.l.f. has shown me that they have better pigmentation. It’s just so hit or miss with ABH and I find that frustrating.

I forgot to say this in the video, but I find that the ABH shadows run the worst when my eyes water. if I even have a drop of moisture, forget it, the look is ruined. The Colourpop ones stay in place even when I tear up from walking in the wind, etc. It make a huge difference to me.

Hannah, that’s good to know. I haven’t tried Colourpop shadows yet - just their lip products, but I may try them after I declutter the duds after my no-buy. My eyes do get dry a lot because I wear contacts, so they water pretty frequently.

I actually love the color scheme for subculture, I would trade it for MR in a heartbeat even with the formula issues! I didn't mention it in the video but I think the super warm shades in MR are another reason I'm lukewarm about it. I'm sorry the formula is giving you problems :(

Hi Kristi! I have had some disappointments in previous shop-my-stashes. A few that spring to mind are the Colourpop amber balm and the tarteist pro glow in rose gold. Other things that have disappointed me are in my upcoming declutter video on Sunday :)

Beautiful eye look, i love it! I love cooler tones too, i might go through my Morphe palettes and depot my faves. I just never reach for those palettes although i love them. They just are too big! I also have the 35 Taupe palette and it has the most beautiful grungy, dirty taupe shades, i need to use those more :)

If you do depot your Morphe palettes, look up some videos and blog posts about it! They're actually really hard to get out. I definitely recommend heating the glue up in the oven or with a flat iron or lighter. The 35T sounds amazing.

I completely agree with everything you had to say about MR. I also find the shadows fade away to nothing after a couple hours unless I use certain eye primer. I ended up giving away that Wet n Wild highlighter a few months ago in a destash. I never thought to use the colors together.

I was this close to decluttering the highlighter, too. That's what I was doing when I swatched it (decluttering stuff). The bronze shimmer is kind of intense, but I'm enjoying it. But if you have other highlighters, you're probably better off without it! It's a bit harsh.

I think the formula of norvina is better than MR they last just a bit longer. I find that I prefer dose of colors or urban decay so much more than abh. I really enjoy my norvina pallet but mostly for the metallic shades. I also think love letter is my favorite pink shade of all time. Their singles are nice but I find Melt and color pop better suit my needs.

Have you considered making your own empty palettes? I'm so picky about fillable palettes and I've been toying with making some with fabric and metal instead of cardboard, maybe similar to how I would make a casebound book. I haven't played around with that yet but I have gotten it in my head so I'll probably try it! Seems like something you could excel at with your background in art.

Comment on the first half, which I watched while getting ready this morning; I’m looking forward to hearing about bronze eyeshadow for the second half! :) I feel you so much about the ABH formula. It’s ok for me (I suspect for different reasons than for you), but I constantly feel like I should like it, I should want it, just because it’s so popular. I’ve watched Soft Glam and now Norvina come out and wonder if I should buy them, because it’s the formula that everyone loves! But in colours I find easier to wear than some of the colours in MR. But it’s not a great formula for me, and it’s so validating when other people say that too. Meanwhile, I’ve come to accept that Urban Decay has my favourite eyeshadow formula. I spend a lot of time on the muacjdiscussion subreddit and UD is fairly frequently maligned there for not “improving” (ie making it more like ABH) their formula in recent years, but for me, it’s great. So I’m inclined to agree with you that formula is so specific to individuals’ skin tone and type and application. Also, yeah, warm taupe is soooo warm. I like a warm eyeshadow just fine, and shades like warm taupe definitely have a place in my makeup looks, but nothing beats a cool smokey taupe. (Possibly my favourite eyeshadow of all time is Sephora Smoke Signals, even though the formula is mediocre, because that colour is perfect.)

Those shimmers in the Modern Renaissance are not the best at all. Even in comparison to other shimmers by abh. I absolutely love the Modern Renaissance palette. I just got it 2 weeks ago because it was on sale for $29. I love the soft romantic looks that I can create with it. It makes me feel like I really know what I'm doing. I've realized it's really not even the palette itself it's the feeling I get when I use it. I feel like I have more skill than I actually do lol. It's nice to recognize that and know that I don't need to go out and buy every abh palette. I just know that I enjoy this because of the connection that I have to it. Watching your videos has made me realize that. I absolutely love your channel. I've been binge-watching episodes daily. 💖

Decided to branch out and im so glad i did bc i realized ABH is not all its cracked out to be. i wont buy from them for a long time unless they come out with something amazing without repeat shades. I'm so glad you tried a Kjaer Weis product! As you well know, I'm super chemically sensitive in regards to what I put on my body, so makeup is a huge issue for me. I'm currently not wearing any makeup (except the occasional special event, in which I put on a bit of mascara) and am only using marula oil for my skincare routine. However, my plan is to eventually be able to wear a bit more makeup when I want, which requires me to do a TON of research about the more natural and organic product lines. Unfortunately, it's very difficulty to come across decent information about the best-performing products in that genre, especially since the average price is usually way too much for me to be able to just buy a handful of different ones and see which is the best. For now, I'm actually on the hunt for a new mascara since I haven't replaced the one I got from Jane Iredale for my wedding 2 YEARS AGO :O. I'm hoping to luck out and find one that does more than just dye my lashes black - they're already super long, but I need some help in the volume department so they don't look like creepy spider legs! I may just choose something random and cross my fingers, unless you or anyone else on here has any suggestions. :)

ooooh, I recommend Kjaer Wies so strongly for you. But I don't think they make a mascara? Apparently Maybelline GreatLash (the classic in the pink tube with the green cap) is hypoallergenic. But it probably isn't free of icky chemicals?

Yeah, hypoallergenic doesn't really cut it for me, unfortunately. But Kjaer Wies does have a mascara. It's just spendy - $38 (I think) for 3 months. I may still try it, but that price point is hard to swallow.

Have you ever tried the La Roche Posay Respectissime ones? They've done a really good job at taking out a lot of irritants that are normally found in mascaras (fragrance being the big ones). I used to work at Credo beauty (a store that brings in majority synthetic-free products) - If this helps, our bestsellers were the W3LL People one and the Kjaer Weiss. If you're super reactive, for the KW, I'd try the refill before investing in the full packaging. The W3LL was better for volume, but sometimes people had it smudge on them. The KW sometimes flaked, but didn't really smudge (tubing mascara). It looks more natural, too. The Ilia one is similar to the KW, but was more of a love/hate situation for people. Hope that long rant helped you in some way. Haha

The answer might not be "Yes." 😂 Intetesting, because the Paaarty blush is the warmest of my blushes 😀 I like pinkness on my face and lips, but like warmer eyes. I always thought that cooler tones on the eyes suits me better until KZbin. When I did my first orange crease that was it! For almost a year I used almost only warm eyeshadows 😊 Ahhh, now I'm confused about what you said about ABH MR... I wanted to buy it or Duce from Juvia's Place for my this month birthday. Honestly, if you love warm shadows, you would probably love it. I didn't mention this in my review but one of the reasons I'm so lukewarm about ABH is that I'm tired of using warm shadows on my eyes all the time, and I don't usually do intense red and orange looks, either. In my opinion, it's not as easy to work with as people say (very dusty, sometimes patchy) but it was still a groundbreaking palette and it's definitely iconic.

Vermeer is one of my favorites. I decluttered my MR and ended up buying a single of Vermeer because I missed it. I really don't like ABH's formula in general... Their metallic/shimmer are better than their satin and mattes but I don't like super powdery eyeshadows.

ABH shadows are also disappointing to me because they're powdery. There are so many creamy mattes out there that I don't feel like it's worth it to get the ABH ones. I almost never buy eyeshadow palettes because I never feel like I get enough use out of them, but I got Modern Renaissance anyway, and now it lives with my sister who also doesn't use it as much as she'd like to. The berry tone trend got so blown up that I'm also just bored of it. I would've liked the color palette of Subculture for myself, but the issue of the formula still lies.

I feel like the Marc Jacobs glosses are so overrated. I bought them due to the hype but I don’t think they are any better than anything else. Plus it’s so so expensive. I do like my colourpop glosses and wet n wild ones too.

You are awesome. But i think we both know u absolutely justify your overpriced and refill items. Rouge status happens without no buy year so it almost proves that it didnt work because ur loop hole allowed u to continue the habit with justification... not knocking u because i really do adore the initiative. Perhaps it's a matter of perspective, but I definitely don't consider my replacements-only rule to be a justification or a loophole.
