In a game stacked with magic users of various spell lists and utility, does Hanneman stand a chance in comparison? When I asked what people thought of Hanneman, a large majority of people said that he’s just a worse version of Lysithea, he’s extremely slow and he’s only good for Meteor. While I did get some solid defenses for him, the Ghast Twitter jury seemed to have concluded that he’s just not worth the time. I’ve always been a fan of older characters in the cast - Yoder, Moulder, Nyx, Gerik and most recently, Hanneman. I don’t think Hanneman’s character needs defending, like Cyril did, but when I see that epic 9k views on his support video, I think some spotlight and appreciation is definitely in order.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a tactical role-playing video game for the Nintendo Switch published by Nintendo and developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo Games. This is a first in the series, as all the past mainline games were solely developed by Intelligent Systems.

@@geenobe9941 Dimitri's paralogue suggest that unless recruited, he defects to the empire (he doesn't appear post-timeskip anywhere else. But he doesn't automatically join the empire during Crimson Flower, while that would make sense.

I particularly liked how Hanuman is a non-villanious syndrome. “When everyone is super, no one will be.” And how he has the same idea as Edel, but is the opposite vector. Both have little time to see their goals though (edel’s life is short like cythias in their paired ending), but Edel wanted to do things expeditiously while hanuman is doing what he can to progress his goal as far as he can, either he makes it or someone else will do it for him. Overall his character is great.

First off, I love how you also realized the similarity to Syndrome. Second, yes, he wants an apprentice to carry on his life's work, believing that he may never see it realized in his own lifetime. This is even alluded to in his battle quote against Byleth in the Silver Maiden, where he says that scholarship's nature is one person building on the discoveries of their forebears.

The sad thing about crests, is that while Rhea wanted them around for Foland's defense she like many others do not like the nobility nor did she create the system. (going by church doctrine found in the library) If Edlegard didn't have the idea that only she could fix things and Rhea, her, Dimitri and Claude talked things out, there wouldn't of been a major war. (with TWSID being wiped out quite easily) The peaceful means Dimitri and Hanneman want to use to bring about change are truly deserving of respect

I absolutely love Hanneman. He's that one Character that I always pair up with Lysithea when I'm trying to complete other S supports. Hanneman and Lysithea's relationship is (to be completely obvious) like Teacher and Apprentice, and it feels good. Most everyone is so cling onto love relationships when some platonic relationships just right out over class them. That's my opinion of course.

Three Houses has created a world that, without exaggeration, could easily fill a Game of Thrones scale series. The story could take place at practically any point in the timeline we are given... it could follow Jeralt before Byleth was born as he explored Fodland when working for the Church. Or perhaps after Byleth is born and show his journey as a merc with his crew. Or it would follow a brand new character (or collection of characters) and take us through the entirety of the story, both before, during, and after the events of the game, from a totally different perspective. It doesn't even need to heavily feature the Monastery. Hell, the story could simply focus on all of the students' parents throughout the events preceding the game. Show the political relationship between Caspar and Linhardt's father. Flesh out Brigid by telling us more about Petra's grandfather. Show us some flashbacks of Sylvain growing up with him getting preferential treatment over his brother. Really I could go on and on, but you get the point. The amount of possibilities such an epic series could take are endless. The world building framework has already been establish so beautifully that the details will be easy to create with the right team.

We know relatively little about Dagda (mainly that it has Shamir, an army and coffee), but a game set in Almyra (perhaps starting before this game does and continuing after) might be even better. I think most people know that Lorenz is supposed to have depth. It's very clear that the writers want you to think a certain way about him, like with Hilda and Sylvain, and some others. His backstory and motives become very understandable when you get to know him. With characters like Hanneman, they're overlooked because players get a neutral impression, which leads to less motivation to learn about him. Lorenz can be appreciated more easily, while Hanneman needs more thought.

Weeb Tendency Interesting theory, but I doubt this is the case. I’m sure they planned the supports much before working on the art, but if so, then that’d be very poor planning on their part. I’m sure they could’ve easily just made a male art variant as well, as honestly, I don’t think it would’ve been very difficult. Some people have even made fan edits of male byleth marrying Hanneman in the art. I do think it’s a bit unfair that females can support some of the most fan favorite beautiful females, like Edelgard and Dorothea, but guys get Linhardt. I’m sure many do like and are satisfied with Linhardt, but he’s not exactly the best fish in the pond IMO. They could’ve gave males a at least one more supports that isn’t platonic, such as Raphael, Caspar, or of course, Hanneman, but they decided to waste it with platonic supports. I’m personally not too hurt, as I’m happily married with my wife Marianne. They may make one of those future dlc characters an option for gay/bi men though.

Edelgard herself did say having them available to anyone who wants one isn't so different from having none at all. It'd probably be better long term for everyone to have access to them imo. What Edel wants is a world without them/they aren't important. This has a larger chance to be misinterpreted by people and lead to the mistreatment of people who naturally have Crests over time, rather than something bad occurring if everyone is able to have one if they wanted. And they combat bonuses they offer wouldn't just be lost from the world

In my mind, one threat of Edelgard's world is creating a culture that seeks to eliminate Crests, even by forcibly removing them from people who don't want them removed. Edelgard may not want that, but we don't see safeguards against it. Making Crests be seen as a boon but not the end all be all of a person is something most other characters can get behind though, including Rhea. It also opens up a willingness to use them for more mundane things in society.

@@Ryodraco I like that flaw in Edel's vision because it mirrors the one in Rhea's vision (to protect the descendants of the Elites, she says they're a gift from the goddess, but she never actively tells the humans to make those people their hereditary leaders). Honestly, the more parallels between Edelgard and Rhea, the better. I really wish their similarities weren't just left to the subtext of playing through all the routes, though.

I used Hanneman in my Silver Snow route as a Dark Knight with Magic Bows and he did damn well, he tanked extremely well the monsters in the final map, since they do magic damage and was a key component in that map along with Bernadetta to break shields and retreat to safety

High magic and thoron/meteor are just too good. Use him on the same team with dorothea for 4 meteors a map, so great.

She hits harder but rarely is there an enemy ly can one shot that he can’t. If she can kill it usually he can. If he can’t kill it it’s likely she can’t either. She’s also way less accurate. Honestly in term of combat only hanneman is easily the best. Two instant kill nukes from half the map away with the damage to back it up makes him great on any play through. Especially the lack of investment needed. His only problem is just the fact he has no unique utility. But as someone who played md without warp and as only Marianne as my only real healer with no casualties utility magic just adds convenience. You can easily beat the last maps without warp ( I’d argue a couple of them don’t even benefit from warp)

He was always one of my favorites of the non-students, and I find that I bring him along whenever I have an opportunity. On top of everything mentioned in the video, I have a weakness for largely-monochromatic designs, and he's just well-designed anyway. So dapper. Also Dan Woren's distinctive acting really shines. Whenever he voices a character, he has such deliberate enunciation, and it really fits a scholar like Hanneman.

Three Houses was kind of an all you can eat buffet for you in terms of old characters, there’s an entire faction dedicated to them. Seriously though, Three Houses is full of very interesting characters and I’m glad you liked Hanneman! Your Hanneman madness inspired me to make him a Sniper in my Silver Snow playthrough. It started sort of as a joke but by the end of it he was easily one of my most disgusting dps units along with Seteth and Alois. Even enemies with 70+ hp are melted away by Hanneman's Magic Hunter Volley. His magic is so stupid high and his bow affinity so good he mastered the class in no time and was the first in the team to ever hit a S+ (double bowfaire........ for double hit magic attacks). Magic truly is everything.

Hanneman reminds me of Enlightenment and the rise of science. The empire route is about cutting off old traditions and blind faith (yeah Rhea pointing to you) so Hanneman's being the pioneer of crestless tools is kinda befitting to Edelgard's ideals in my opinion.

👏👏👏Nice to see some appreciation for this dude. Hanneman's probably one of my favorite characters in the game. Probably because he's a in-game sentient Fodlan worldbuilding loredump in regards to crests but. He's a rad dude. Also his best character moment was the conversation he has with Byleth about wanting to have an archeological dig and excavation of what's left of Shambala in the GD path. Which I want a side game or spin-off of. How cool would an Indiana Jones-like plot of regular old Fodlan citizens figuring out ancient magitech history and dealing with warlike scenarios in a FE7 way. SOUNDS GOOD 2 ME! 😄👍

I am a doing Church Route, NG+ Maddening, decided to make a Hanneman Warmaster for the memes. Once he reached a Warrior class, to get some strength boost, I gave him every single stat boosters i have collected, including all my 11 of rocky budrocks from gardening. He had 42 base strength + 6 from death blow + 10 from Lion King Corps... Can't wait for his endgame stats. P.S All i wanted to hear his "I will dirty my hands if I must", while he demolishes enemies with his bare hands.

I've rarely had an excuse to *use* Hanneman, in large part because on each route's first playthrough, I wanted to use that house's specific students above all else, and there'd always be sufficient sources of magic. I'm finishing up a church route playthrough, branched from a previous BE playthrough, and I made it a goal to use all of the faculty and other church-associated units in that playthrough above the students. It's pretty interesting, and though Hanneman started off kind of behind due to my negligence in part 1, he keeps up well enough. It's on Hard and not Maddening, to be fair, but still. As a character, I like Hanneman. I think his supports are very good and his personality is enjoyable and often heartwarming or otherwise amusing enough. The voice acting for him comes across as a bit stilted from time to tome, but on the other hand, I kinda like it in a weird way.

I personally made Hannemann to a Sniper as he can combine the magic bow with Hunter's Volley to compensate for his low speed. He has bow proficiency already therefore I prefer it more than Warmaster and his high magic makes sure that he one-rounds anything.

I loved hanneman from the getgo, but because I wanted to experience all the different routes with the student characters, I never actually got to see almost any of his supports and I had no idea he was this bloody good all along. i finally started using hanneman after three playthrough and he isn't too bad. i was able to see some of his supports and it definitely changed my opinions on him. i believe pairing him up with lysithea like i did, is the best ending for her as it implied that he might have found a way to increase her life span...

I mean I enjoy his spell list a lot just because in contrast to every other mage he never picks a specification on magic Annette uses wind, Lyshitea dark, Marianne Ice etc Hanneman just uses all types of black magic which fits him alot

Alternative DLC where instead of becoming a teacher you straight up become a mercenary/knight for the church, get the Ashen Wolves and select students (like leonnie) as apprentices and with the driving force of Hanneman and Seteth try to get a golden/peaceful ending while still not completely siding with or against the church. It'll probably be bad but hey, just to get him some spotlight

I liked Hanneman from his supports with Byleth (I don't even use him as a unit, but I like him a lot as a character) and when I watched his support with Dorothea, I liked him even more. Such an intelligent man, very aware of the world he lives in and dedicated to use his passion for studying crests a way to change the world for the better. That is the very definition on nobility. Not the blood one, but the heart one.

He's a character who can't decide whether they want to be magic or physical which isn't good usually. Not gonna lie, the best thing about him (gameplay wise, story wise I just found him annoying because he's a worse version of ferdinand), is his paralogue, because of his relic that I immediately give to lysithea

I personally feel that if you wanted to write a unified timeline where you bring all the sides together, everyone gets closure, and none of the main lords die, then Hanneman would be the key to reconciling Edelgard and Rhea.

I actually somehow managed to get a Hanneman that can double a decent amount of enemies that aren't armored knights. Granted, I gave him a speed carrot, but he still got a lot more speed growths than what I saw on my first playthrough. It's weird. As a character, I weirdly relate with him. But unlike Bernadetta, it's more of the things I like about myself (most of it anyway), so he gets a lot of points from me. Also, his support development with Lysithea is so warm that I just have to keep getting it on every run.

Hanneman is, IMO, best mage, due to his proficiencies steering him into Dark Knight. As far as I'm concerned, in case of offensive mages, master classes are the way to go with obvious choice for girls, and Dark Knight for dudes (as, IMO, double uses aren't that important so movement is nice)... Not to mention mustache!!! He's literally science-Oifey!

Double uses is important for utility magic and utility magic is also important. For example two warps is insane. And even for mediocre utility spells having more of them is a whole lot of exp. granted hannerman doesn’t have any insane utility magic like warp so less important then it could be however realistically if you can hit everyone from a distance with meteor high movement is less important. So if hannerman for example had all the really extremely powerful close ranged magic dark knight would be excellent to bring him in close. Not as important when you can already get in range even with 4 movement every turn. Plus there is always stride to increase the movement range of non mounted characters ( best equipped on a mounted one so they can benefit from the extra movement themselves with canto) in a mix of mounted and unmounted characters.

I really need to have a play through where I use all of the church units. I have a hard time benching my main group of students, so characters like Hanneman, Shamir, Alois, Cyril, etc tend to be left behind. I will definitely give Hanneman a shot when I do my first maddening run!

I would love to see someone do the sliver snow route but with only with church members (post time skip only and maybe for fun put it on classic and kill all the student units in the final battle before the time skip so they don't appear after the timeskip at all, it would be cool if they add story mode where you can only play with church members and the black eagle students appear as enemy units tho and maybe somehow get Gilbert too)

@@LuriTV The talent is just a built in Pavise/Agis tho and Lysithea is almost never going to proc it since you never want her in enemy range especially on maddening. Lysithea is a great unit but it's not because of Thyrsus.

I always had a special place in my heart for units that ditched the speed stat for the most part, in favor of massive magic/ strengths stats. It's why I liked Micaiah and why I gave Hanneman a chance. His character and the way it was written was just the sweet icing on top
