Amazing, but nothing will beat your work with Blotted Science, Hannes. Every song on The Animation of Entomology was mind-blowing. You, Ron Jarzombek, and Alex Webster have got to collaborate again.

That's quite a foot technique you developed over the years, remember it being a completely different concept in your DVD if I'm not mistaken. Would love to see an update/tutorial on the subject, probably many drummers would sign under that too ;]

Yup, that's why you're my "favourite" drummer. What I wouldn't give for personal lessons from you...just God damn. Some of the best fills and blasts in the business, (hands down) and dont get me started on your skill with singles man. In a world of swivel, heel-toe, doubles, slide and everything else you're still killing it with ankle motion. Also killer release, I'll need to check out the album. Oh! And I'm re-reading the hobbit-Return again and really dig the studios name, haha. Awesome shit all around.

@Luemm3l8 жыл бұрын
have I been just hit by a train ? No, just Hannes Grossmann... Would be super awesome if you could explain how you mixed and mastered the song or how your approach in general is... I always wonder how you can get such a crisp sound... I'm beginner at recording and my drums sound like shit (well, Overheads and toms are ok for my taste, but snare and kick lack depth and punch and in general volume... just raising the gain doesn't help that much and the gate and equalizer settings I tried weren't good either... )
@babycarl95198 жыл бұрын
Luemm3l well, The kick Is probably triggered ..
@Luemm3l8 жыл бұрын
no shit, you figured that out all by yourself ? I'm impressed.
@babycarl95198 жыл бұрын
Luemm3l comon man , dont be childish. So , a trigger is a great option to get the kick sound you want
@Luemm3l8 жыл бұрын
yeah, well, to prevent missfiring or missing any hits, you have to get the settings right and tweaking can be a real clusterfuck, especially if you are playing in high tempos... In my case, if you don't have a trigger device at all (simply lacking money for proper equipment atm) and trigger directly from the recorded sound (as in mic --> sound-peaks converting to Midi notes that trigger --> drumsample), that can become quite problematic. And it's not only triggers... how do you gate your snare and OHs and toms to prevent bleed-in from the other instruments of the drum, which frequencies can you add some gain to and so on. Of course I researched a little bit and tried different things, but I am far from being satisfied with the drum sound I have and so I wonder if there are any good to go tips from the masters themselves... getting a nice drumsound is a science on its own, trust me... and producers take years to "master" the sound.
@Luemm3l8 жыл бұрын
that might be one possibility... the isolated snare is rather clunky, but the total drum track isn't so bad at all... kick mics out of phase with OH isn't such a big deal since you can't hear em and I probably replace the kicks anyway, but I'd like to have the rest of my drums as natural as possible, adding just basic eq, gates and maybe compressors... but it's mostly trial and error to me thus far... Of course, tuning also plays a role
