This scene shows how good Anderson was in this role. He purposely didn’t copy the manic energy of Pitt because he played most of the role as “I lost last time because I wasn’t in control enough”. His character seems more in control because he thinks he can’t lose. In this scene that sadistic maniac energy comes back because he thinks he’s still can’t lose.

In season 2, Mason cut his own face off with shards of mirror, ate parts, and fed the rest to Will Graham's dogs while under Hannibal's suggestion and drugs. This is season three, however. Just prior to this, Mason has captured Hannibal and Will. Mason planned on having an unwilling facial transplant performed, ripping Will's face off and implanting it over his own. It did not go as planned. Will was rescued before his face could be removed, but not before Mason's was.

So why did that eel try to shove itself into his mouth?
@nigelft2 жыл бұрын
Certain species of oceanic eel (as per this one in the tank) actually prefers living in small 'caves' created by large gaps in coral ... ... which means deliberately keeping it in an 'empty' tank was especially cruel ... and very much of Mason's character ... So, the moment Mason plunged into the tank, the eel finally saw a small cave it could wriggle itself into ... ... unfortunately, Mason's mouth was a bit too small, and got stuck ... so: a) it suffocated, jammed down Mason's throat, and stuck on his teeth, through the lack of oxygenated water inside Mason ... Or b) being it belongs to a genus of oceanic eels, known for its voracious appetite, and not knowing when last it was fed, the eel rapidly chewed its way down, and then out through Mason's stomach, to make an 'exit' hole, before it suffocated ... a) seems most likely, though ...

Mason Verger is far from being the hero. To me, Hannibal is the better of the two because, that I know of, Hannibal has never raped anybody, and Mason used to rape children back in the day, lots of children. Before he was left a quadriplegic, every child Mason came in contact with, he would rape. He would purposely make kids cry and put their tears in his wine and drink them. Why Margot wants to have a baby with him is beyond me because when they were children, he raped her, too. I have no respect for rapists and pedophiles, so Hannibal wins.
