First I watched the Movies, than the Series with Mikkelsen. Just rewatched the movies and I have to say I like Mads version of Hannibal soooo much more. I feel like he is the real Hannibal who always has control over every situation. Hes more like the brilliant cannibal who was able to trick everybody instead of the Hopkins Hannibal who just turned in this brute monster that kills just because of his urge and not because he is intelligent and stands above all that, is making fun of us 'simple ones' by killing us, like Mikkelsens Hannibal does. How do you think about that?

I love Mads' version of Hannibal much more than Hopkins. I imagine though that the reason Hopkins is so much more brutal in the movies is because he doesn't have anything to hide. The person suit has been ripped away from him at that point, so there isn't any need for the subtle machinations that we see in the show.

I also love Mads Hannibal more because he is more graceful, clever and charming. He is always in control of everything and his calm demeanor is quite appealing. He is just a great chess player who loves the power play.

@@grayace160 @bagbunny May enter the convo, Cant just ignore the predecessors You see Ecery charcter when is played by multiple actors, somehow developes, Mr.hopkins had to see the manhunters hannibal and mister mikkelsen saw hopkins hannibal, of indeed mads delivery cant be overstated, but he knew how to perfect the hannibal lecter character, And it apears none of you had read the books cuz what mister hopkins does is the most closest to hannibal lecter in the books, as it gets! Btw in the movies, hannibal doesnt get as much screen time as the series so god knows what was possible, But what we have right now in 3 seasons is an absolute cinematic art, Characters, dialogs, scenes, music, plot is truely magnificent art! To take into consideration, that the red dragon character is somehow absolute in all the publications and litterally the same everywhere So anyway please cherish both anthony and mads for such and outstanding performance Good luck.

I personally think that the Hopkins Hannibal acts more vulgar for the joy of making others titter and scatter (rude, don’t you think?) and is governed by his ‘nature’ to kill and does so impulsively, though with enough intelligence to hide and has a high enough status to slip by. While Mikkelson’s version is much more sophisticated and wears an inscrutable mask that only presents what he wants you to perceive. He governs himself, has full autonomy over his urges and is fully capable of restraining himself, though murder is still an essential facet of himself, it is not his singular defining trait. Then again, this is all conjecture and you are subject to your own opinion :)

If you havent done so you should go back further to 1986 and watch the original "Red Dragon" called Manhunter starring the legendary Brian Cox as Hannibal, William Peterson (Gil Grissom from the orig CSI) and the always creepy Tom Noonan as the tooth fairy aka Francis Dolarhyde
