La Fundación Rafael del Pino organizó, el día 20 de junio de 2013, la Conferencia Magistral de Hans-Hermann Hoppe titulada “from Aristocracy to Monarchy to Democracy. A Tale of Moral and Economic Folly and Decay”. La conferencia fue seguida de un diálogo del profesor Hoppe con Pedro Schwartz, Catedrático Rafael del Pino en la Universidad CEU San Pablo.

The title of this video is slightly incorrect. It's monarchy to aristocracy to democracy. As Plato said; the best form of government is a monarchy, over time this may fail and fall to aristocracy, when it does it will fall to democracy; the worst form of government. But maybe I'm being too literal with my terminology.

I have noticed this about Hoppe and other Mises school liberals, they are very Pro-Aristocracy. It is rather confusing as the Aristocracy was often an Oligarchy. However Erik Von Kuehnelt-Leddihn was a Monarchist so now I am confused.

If you listen closely to this lecture (in which I think he presented his thoughts on this subject very very well - better than how he gives the same lecture topics at other points in time, in my opinion) or read his works, Hoppe is not pro-aristocracy. Consistently throughout this talk he points out that "better does not mean good", and he is simply saying here that: Anarcho-Capitalism > Decentralized Monarchy > Absolute Monarchy > Constitutional Monarchy > Democracy. I understand your confusion, as even many self-proclaimed "Hoppeans" have not actually read/understood Hoppe's basic beliefs, and many (falsely) claiming to subscribe to his beliefs are monarchists and/or Pinochetists. If you are also referring to whom he refers to as "Natural Elites", simply said, they are solely forces of prosperity under statelessness, and typically the top benefactors of the state when a state exists. Many make the error of blaming the inherent idea of some people being even voluntarily highly rewarded for their significant contributions to society, whereas the issue is placed at the state's imposition in the first place that creates the potential of its usurpation.

Does he not understand what a Military Junta is? I'm absolutely flabbergasted that he somehow thinks that kings are kept in check by nobles. Kings make a coalition of nobles complicit in his crimes and reward them with the spoils. This is how dictators (like kings) work. To say that law in medieval times was better in some way is absolutely absurd.

" The Magna Carta of 1215 was all about the nobles demanding that King John recognize their traditional rights and privileges. It was only much later that the Magna Carta became a symbol of the rights of the common man. But nevertheless it was an example of resistance to autocratic tyranny.

Libertario Rancio​ No puedo concebir un Liberalismo completo si existe una monarquía o una aristocracia. Y eso que hay ejemplos que conozco. Pero, si consideramos que el minarquismo sólo es posible en un sistema monárquico o aristocrático, entonces no veremos implantarse el Liberalismo de nuevo, ni en Europa ni en América. En lo económico y en cuanto a tamaño de Estado Singapur es digno de copia, mientras que, en lo político habrá que copiar a Suiza, porque de otro modo no es posible implantar Sistemas realmente liberales, partiendo desde las democracias occidentales actuales. Y, si lo que se pretende es crear miles de pequeños Estados como Liechtenstein, le puedo asegurar que no habrá ningún éxito al respecto. Un saludo.

¿Por qué es incompleto si dichas monarquías respetan la propiedad privada y la libre asociación? ¿Cuándo se caerán del burro los liberales clásicos? ¿No les vale con abrir un libro de historia y ver que las repúblicas democráticas han ido minando desde el principio la libertad y aumentando el tamaño del estado a diferencia de las monarquías? La misma Suiza, que es hoy un estado decente en comparación a los monstruos europeos, no es ni un estado minarquista. Yo no hablo de estrategia política, sino de teoría, y en este campo hay que asumir que el liberalismo y la democracia son incompatibles. Saludos

Libertario Rancio Por supuesto que el Liberalismo y la Democracia (sin límites) son incompatibles, pero, una Monarquía no es necesariamente compatible con un Sistema liberal. Dejando a un lado la estrategia, la Monarquía es un Sistema político anterior al propio Liberalismo, que proviene del Antiguo Régimen, y el Liberalismo surgió precisamente en contraposición al régimen de las monarquías. Así que, si quiere pensar como Hoppe, adelante, defienda la implantación de una Monarquía en defensa de la Libertad, y verá cómo ese sistema no se hará realidad, pues, las monarquías son en síntesis contradictorias con la Libertad y con el Liberalismo (aunque haya casos excepcionales como Liechtenstein, no todos los monarcas son tan libertarios como lo es Johannes "Hans" Adam Ferdinand Alois, al cual yo adoro).
