Systema (Система, literally meaning The System) is a Russian martial art. Training includes, but is not limited to: hand-to-hand combat, grappling, knife fighting, and firearms training. Training involves drills and sparring without set kata. In Systema, the body has to be free of tensions, filled with endurance, flexibility, effortless movement, and explosive potential; the "spirit" or psychological state has to be calm, free of anger, irritation, fear, self-pity, delusion, ego and pride.
Systema has four pillars - Breathing, Relaxation, Body Position, and Movement, as well as utilizing an attacker's momentum against him and controlling the six body levers (elbows, neck, knees, waist, ankles, and shoulders) through pressure point application, striking, and weapon applications. As a discipline, it is becoming more and more popular among police and security forces and it is taught by several practitioners inside and outside Russia.[3][citation needed] There are multiple schools of Systema - Systema Kadochnikova, Systema Ryabko, Systema Vasiliev.

Systema under a good teacher is one of the best martial arts you can do imo. Under a bad teacher it becomes a whole bunch of bullshit. As long as your teacher keeps himself in reality it's amazing

Watcher no it's not aikido at all. Aikido is based around circular movement and doing only the bare minimum to stop your opponent and not hurt them. Systema uses different principles (although it shares some too). Systema is purely a principle based martial art, that's why it's name literally translate to "the system". Imo it works at it's best when you use those principles as a filter for martial arts techniques, with these principles u can enhance techniques to make them work better and u can see how likely one would be to work as it is. It's much more than that. In all honesty systema is quite hard to define with words, u have to feel it and do it as systema is also quite a personal martial art. For example I've seen many judokas, and boxer and etc etc and they all move almost the same way with some slight personal differences. But in systema they all move so different with some slight similarities.

Looks real good but the key thing... is it practical in a real fight situation? A lot of knife disarming techniques do not work. You enemy is unpredictable and you don't know what state they are in or what experience they have. Trying this could get you killed or even worse if you kill the other person you could get charged with murder unless there is strong evidence of self defence and with no other option. I say stand tall and carry a big stick.
