How great to see another video of you!!! You have always been among my favorites! PS: 0:45 I guess that would have ended the training session for that day, even in the darkest of dark ages.

Seems like it got rid of one of the members of the triumvirate. A real man fights until there is no gonads left.

You guys are the best in terms of interpreting HEMA techniques! Hope you would have more frequent video uploads!

My confusion with most spear texts is that they play so differently from sparring with the spear.. Sparring is all about reach and feinted thrusts, the texts are often concerned with striking and displacement of those strikes. Anyways, great to see you guys make vids again!

That's because of 2 things: the sources on spear are on heavy and light spears of which only the latter are mostly matching to the very light simulators. 2nd it's a problem with interpretation

I've been told that Fiore spear techniques were primarily meant to be used while in full plate armor, so a lot of the techniques are meant to end in either an up close kill blow or grappling to dagger.

Oooohhh, I guess I was practicing this book at home without knowing it. Just thought it up to counter an opponent with a great sword who loved the overhead position. Never got to practice it in a spar since group thought it was a dumb idea to not keep the point forward and peer pressured away from it. Now I feel vindicated that there are real techniques to my random idea.

I can't see these being constantly used in a Spear duel scenario... It would be nore useful with the Bō

@@einheri My guess he he's wondering why there isn't any actual stabbing attacks which would be far quicker and more likely to score a hit. I suspect this is based more on a later period pole arm style where combatants would most likely be wearing armour, so typical stabbing may not be as effective as blunt force trauma. Think halberd or bill instead of spear. Those long overhand style attacks still seem pretty slow, obvious and energy inefficient to me. I see no reason you can't have a more sensible guard AND do a slamming attack. Lift, step and smack all in one motion. The only situation I can conceive of when you would do a long sweeping attack such as that is if your opponent has already closed past your point, so you step back and use the shaft as a club to defend yourself. So essentially the attacker is really the defender at a later stage in the encounter and the defender is countering after closing. If that makes sense? If it were me in a real battle I wouldn't even bother blocking that attack, step in quick and trust home. Once you're close enough the hit won't be very strong. Just take it and score the kill instead.
