it was misunderstood and hated at the time of its release. But I think people are starting to realize what an amazing movie it was, what an incredible Superman film it is, and what an astounding jewel that DC has ever produced. Even more now that the Zack Snyder cut of JL has been released. Soon it will be remembered in cinema, like movies of the likes of Scarface (Pacino version). They were a highly ordered highly advanced warrior race, it was that instinctual in fighting that ended their people in the end, not the death of Krypton, though that helped markedly. I like a serious superhero movie, but superman wasn’t really handled well in this, or the Kents. The idea of Jonathan Kent almost wishing Clark had let a bunch of school kids die to stay hidden is pretty bad, in the comics they raised him to be the guy that always helps people, in MoS superman was some depressed wandering loner who occasionally helps but only seems to embrace the idea of being a hero when Jor-El’s ghost tells him too. And then he does a terrible job of actually helping people and destroys most of Metropolis fighting Zod, when he should’ve tried to lead Zod somewhere else. The snapping Zod‘s neck bit I understand, but he didn’t try to help the thousands of people that were being crushed by the buildings he and Zod were flinging each other through. They could’ve made a more realistic superman movie without making the character dull and do things that are out of character for him. But then this is the same guy who decided to make ‘I have 1 rule: no killing’ Batman into a mass murderer who for some reason has no problem murdering a load of henchmen but for some reason didn’t kill the Joker or Harley Quinn...

I wish people would stop comparing every actor who played Superman to Christopher Reeve every actor has a different way of playing the man of steel. (The voice actors don't count in this one) And from what I've seen they all have done a great job John Haymes Newton, Gerard Christopher, Dean Cain. @@Chris-gw2xg Agreed. The classic Willams score is more attuned to the spectacle of Superman, the way am old theater would roll an orchestra and brass band to hail the arrival of a hero onstage. But Zimmer's rendition made me think more of the soaring heights above, made me feel that joy of first flight, of someone completely lost in the world finding his way. And when it returned in the final Snyder film, it was _perfected:_ Superman had finally ascended in triumphant glory. Even if it was flawed, Man of Steel let us wander a mile in Clark's shoes as he found his footing, before he finally found his wings. I'm speaking as someone who grew up watching the first Christopher Reeves film and Man of Steel, as well as the often-forgotten 2005 Superman Returns. I feel Cavill had the best shot of being the definitive Superman, but he didn't get enough time to be the inspiring Superman he could be, since story beats of later movies demanded a focus on his power and the conflicts it brings. If only they'd scaled down things a bit, made a miniseries in between Man of Steel and BvS's movie release dates featuring Cavill exploring life between being Clark and Superman, more than his powers, showing the _heart_ of Superman...

Both Cavill and Reeves brought different takes to the character, with Reeves being pretty amazing at balancing being Clark and Superman (the scene in II where he reveals his identity to Lois comes to mind), and Cavill capturing both the lost nature of a Clark looking for his place in the world, and the confidence needed to be Superman after. Again, still wish the execs/Synder had done some small-scale shorts and TV dramas in between 2013 and 2016 for Cavill to show more of his soft side so that arguments about him being an inhuman, emotionless Superman could've been assuaged.

The film is special for me, it taught me to fly in my Lucid Dreams. Sounds just like a symbolic, feels-good and cool thing to say, but I literally had never thought to fly over the ocean before lol.
