I totally agree with you I just spent two hours trying to replace a TB1 cartridge the faucet was 15 years old couldn’t get the new one in didn’t fit right and also the ceramic dish and everything all fell apart trying to install it pain in the butt.....I plan next week to put in a whole new faucet either kohler or moen

My TB2 had a brass set pin pressed in. I crashed my housing before realizing this pin needed to be drilled out. Once drilled, I broke into the threads. Not rebulidable in this form, I ordered a new housing and valve, but the housings are discontinued, but I did find one.

This is where I screwed up....as I was loosening the valve (it had seized in the housing) everything came out. Now my handle rotates 180 degrees and setting the temp is a pain....no leaks though.

Something is wrong with the cartridge in this video - the label says TB2, but the underside has only 3 ports suggesting it is a TB1.

I agree that something is wrong here. I just went through the joy of replacing a 13 year old TB-2 about two weeks ago. In my case, the inner cartridge and the outer piece were completely fused together, there was no way to unscrew them as shown in this video. Also, the end of the TB-2 cartridge has a different gasket on the back then what he is showing here. I ended up buying the entire piece that he is showing here (which was labeled as a TB-2 cartridge even though it is the entire assembly). If you buy the whole thing, which is expensive, then the repair is very easy and only takes a few minutes. It is still way cheaper than calling a plumber though. The hardest part of replacing the whole TB-2 piece is that mine was wrapped in a cosmetic brushed nickel sleeve, and the washers on the inside were tight after 13 years. It took some effort to get the cosmetic sleeve off as I had to reuse that part. Do NOT follow this video or the video on the hans grohe site with the cheery fix-it lady and the giant wrench. They are both wrong. If you try to turn the TB2 while is it still bolted in the valve then the gasket will pop off the back and potentially crack the inside of the cartridge too. You will end up having to buy the cartridge assembly then anyway.

New Hansgrohe valves that use the green IBoX are good and reliable..these TB gen models are trash. I've been to so many TB service call and they are all trash, that's why they are discontinued

Ive been looking at hansgrohe showers, but you’ve put me off now with the crappy cartridge. Do you have any experience of grohe products (diff company)?

When you install the fixture into the wall are you able to shut off the water without adjusting anything

Does this solve the slow shower head leak? Replace the cartridge or replace the whole unit?

It seems to be the TB-2 cartridge that that causes the leak. I am having the same problem. Replacing the whole unit is a good idea if the unit is too old in my opinion because the internal Thermostatic Cartridge gets stuck and hard to rotate over time - maybe there is a way to clean it, not sure.

If you find this challenging and worth a video I sure would not want to hire you as a plumber. My hansgrohe stuff held up well for 20+ years.

TB2 86000 with grey strips and shorter than TB1

the 94282000 cartridge will fit in all three,

However it is possible to replace only the Cartridge TB2 P/N 88723000 without replacing the Thermostatic Cartridge 94282000 and vice-versa according to my research.
