Calculate Areas and Building Densities of Neighbourhoods using QGIS

Nice exercise, Hans, thank you. I think I'll try it on residential properties across 140 estates in Milton Keynes. I'm in the GIS Team at the city council.

thanks for the video, I spent long hours searching to try it on MS excel, but now it seems easier. Although some polygons show wrong building density, I think the problem is from the overlapping polygons of one of the layers (parcels).

You need a polygon layer for which you want to calculate the densities. These can be for example administrative boundaries. Buildings come from OpenStreetMap and the data are available world wide.
