Hans Zimmer is gonna be an icon like Bach, Beethoven or Mozart in a few decades. Every child has heard their compositions at some point (maybe without even knowing it)

I'm not sure if putting Hans Zimmer on the same level of Bach is appropriate-even Beethoven and Mozart are not on the same level of Bach. However, that's obviously not to downplay Hans' brilliant music.

If you mean by rehashing your own themes over and over again, yeah he is brilliant in that regard. He is good as a music producer and brilliant as a sound designer. As a composer....meh.

The Lion King Gladiator The Thin Red Line The Dark Knight trilogy Kung Fu Panda 2 (w/ John Powell) Inception Man of Steel Rush Interstellar The DaVinci Code The Pirates of the Caribbean The list can go on and on and each of these films feels and sounds unique and special. Only a true, master composer can pull that off

I've noticed this a lot amongst successful people and it's that they all stubbornly go for a goal without and care for what might be best for themselves financially or their reputation. It shows that to be TRULY successful at something you really do have to be in love with it and what "it" could be.

Hans Zimmer is my favorite composer. He creates truly breath taking pieces of art that adds so much to the emotions that you feel while watching a movie. Most people don't even realize how much score adds to a movie. I always feel like such a nerd because for me the best part of any movie is the score, everything else is just a bonus. Oh well I'm okay with it. 😃

For me the best composer of our time is John Williams . He left written the scores almost by his hands no MIDI at all , so all his music will be played by the best Symphonic Orchestras in the world , any time ,any place. The geniality that is attributed to Zmmer is to have atchieved a mixture of the pop music with the soud tracks of our time. Of course the times are changing......

Hans Zimmer and Tomas Bergersen are two greatest modern composers. Their music is out of this world. I always wanted to know HOW they come up with new music, where do they get it from, "what kind of sorcery is this?!" I am really interested if they actually know it themselves. I feel like i cant create anything original (in my head) but i can combine different types of music that i heard. So i dont realy create anything new, i just reuse existing material.

I am not comparing myself with Hans Zimmer but as I make original music alone myself (smaller scale: Rock, it's here on YT) read a little here and there about it and I can tell you: music doesn't come out of nowhere. In the Western world we are used to certain harmonies and certain sounds. All the music you listen to leaves some sort of impression in your brain (and music you listen repeatedly leaves a deeper impression, obviously). When you write music your brain is taking all this "stored" stuff and blends it to what is your music and to what your skills allow you to do. The blending process is the magic that sometimes results in something great and sometimes in stuff you'd never show anyone. And I am quite sure that even Hans Zimmer throws away some ideas (maybe ideas that others could start a career with but... ;) ). Fear is what will hold you back. You can't develop your own style by fearing to copy someone and then do nothing. When you write a song you're quite happy with but fear to sound too similar to something existing store it and begin writing something else every week for a few months. Keep all the stuff and practice the writing and working on ideas. When you built some confidence (which you most probably will) return to the first idea and apply what you learned to it...most likely you will be quite surprised. I wasted 10 years with fear (and other musicians...but that's a different story). Now I can hear what influenced my songs but don't fear that someone else does. Especially after some people named bands I didn't even know the name of...

I can visibly see the way Hans treats his amazing musicians like his family. Some of them has 35 years association. Thats very adorable. Hans is the most Rock n Roll composer alive today, his music can be as big as the universe in Interstellar, an intimate and playful as in Rain Man o Driving Miss Daisy. His scores touch a very deep fiber of the film narrative but at the same time are stand alone pieces of greatness. Thank you for being part of my growing up since childhood to this date, for elevating me to the stars, to battle with gladiators and pirates, for a dark knight and a man of steel, for a holiday and reminding me that "video killed the radio star" forever thankful from Bolivia.
