Some rug types, depending on the weaving material (wool, wool+silk), during washing cycle might get this waving effect; although after the drying procedure the rugs lay perfectly flat. In this video we show only one section of the cleaning procedure.

This is totally wrong.

The real handmade ones are washed by the artisans before being sold. I take my wool ones outside on the lawn every year, wash with a soft broom and baby shampoo, rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse, dry upside down in sun on slats to hold off the lawn. Works perfectly.
