Your description of the balance , esp recovery as you put it, reminds me of another sword that is under reviewed: Tatsumaki by Dragon King. I'm a goof, and if you happened across my stuff my videos sucked, BUT that is one I always felt I should do a good review to do it justice. Was so happy to see you do a real review of the Fletching Katana. CUz mine was stupid. However I am a serious practicioner believe it or not haha...and I think that recovery thing is an interesting and unique Katana quality sometimes. Tatsumaki is much lighter and more nimble than say a Lion Dog, or Wind and Thunder, but it shares some qualities. Thanks and keep your swords sharp!

Thank you. And don't deride your videos man. Tell ya what ... you bought a product and then decided to put out there what you thought of it or what your impressions of it are. For anybody looking at that model that may proved to be a vital piece of information that helps them decide to either buy or perhaps not to buy that sword. Its valuable. Thank you for your contribution.

Great video! I've owned one for at least16-18 yrs. I really like the heavy feel. It gets better with continued practice. The bokken Katas from Aikido are helpful to learn multi-directional defenses.. Katanas are designed with a curved blade to cut in an arc of circular motion, not to chop. Hanwei sells their own sword oil.

I enjoy the review very much, but I have to say, the music is much to loud and I found it challenging to Clearly hear all your descriptions ! Thank you for your time sir !

Hi Arthur, I own this sword and I find it very heavy too. I prefer my Shinto (with bo-hi) and my Momo no saru (Peach Monkey). I also have the Tea culture and the Musashi with 29" blade and leather wrap. I have never found a review of the Momo no saru. Dave.

Great review !! Is the blade signed ? Please do another longer review on this katana . Keep up the Awesome job .
@mr.excalibur14552 жыл бұрын
A- I don't know if the blade is signed ... on Hanwei swords the nakago is usually signed so it would stand to reason that this one was. B-I'll never really know because I've already sold it off. Only got it for review purposes. I do have a heavy katana the Lion Dog from Hanwei ... that one I'm sure is signed.

@@mr.excalibur1455 That’s the full extent of my vocabulary these days :) It’s a beautiful sword. I love the mitsudomoe / Tomo themed fittings. I like the handle shape. I love having some heavy swords for harder targets. All in all it looks like a winner to me. A great piece for a collection to round it out. It might be good for competition mat cuts.

Considering purchasing this sword or the great wave katana. owning both Wich one is your favorite?
@mr.excalibur14552 жыл бұрын
Easy ... Great wave. This sword, in my opinion, at least for the more casual buyer ... is way over built. The Great Wave on the other hand is going to be a much better buy for overall general use.

How would you compare this katana vs Hanwei Raptor Nanbokucho qua handling and feel while swinging it? I need to choose between those two for my next heavy cutter but Wind&Thunder is twice the price of Nambo so I wonder if it's worthed.
@mr.excalibur14552 жыл бұрын
I actually wouldn't chose either. I found most of the raptors to all have some kind of quality control issue ... I really didn't like how the Nanbokucho was designed. The Wind and Thunder was way too heavy. I'd actually go with one of the Ronin Katana Dojo Pro models if you are looking for a heavy cutter.

Small question is sword of the east website reliable? I ordered a set of wind and thunder as their website shows in stock. But got an email the next day saying they are on back order until the end of the month. They did offer me a refund but I decided to wait. Please advise. 🙏

The only companies that I trust stock status indicators on are Sword Buyers Guide and Kult of Athena. Most other companies / online distributors don't keep very careful track. My standard practice with other companies is to email them directly before making an order and ask about the "in-status" of the item I'm interested in. OH ... By The Sword is also pretty good about keeping their inventory indicators up-to-date as well. This practice I have applied to Swords of the East ... I've ordered from them a couple of times. Their in-stock status indicators are suspect ... but they also answer their email pretty fast.

I am looking for a table sword stand suggestions?
@patthecat18002 жыл бұрын
Mr Ex, suggestions for a sub $200 Katana? I'm been strongly eyeing Ronin Katanas $139 entry line, Matthew Jensen recommends them. Not sure if their is any other budget gems I should be considering too in the same price ballpark.
@mr.excalibur14552 жыл бұрын
RKs do have a good reputation ... even at that price range. However ... I'd also like to suggest looking at the Mokko Renshu line from Hanwei as well. They are little over $200 ... but a pretty good buy for something in that range.
