Defensive highlights of the legendary undisputed Middleweight world champion.
PayPal Donations: hanzagod@mail.com
Marvelous Marvin Hagler - Is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 1987. He reigned as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987, making twelve defenses of that title, and currently holds the highest knockout percentage of all undisputed middleweight champions, at 78%, while also holding the second longest unified championship reign in boxing history at twelve consecutive defenses. At six years and seven months, his reign as undisputed middleweight champion is the second longest of the last century, behind only Tony Zale, who reigned during World War II. In 1982, annoyed that network announcers often did not refer to him by his nickname, "Marvelous", Hagler legally changed his name to Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

The man could shift stance mid-combination, go from southpaw to orthodox while attacking on the front foot and could change angle and trajectory while letting loose a walking hook that'd make Big George Foreman envious. “If they cut my bald head open, they will find one big boxing glove.” -Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Well done on a great piece! Too many casual fans just see the Hearns and Leonard fights and have Marvelous Marvin pegged as a face first slugger. By that point his skills had eroded so badly and he had to rely on the tools he had left ... his long distance engine and iron chin. But in his prime I’m talking Sibson, Scypion, Minter, Antuerfermo etc. He masterfully dismantled those guys. Definitely the best switch hitter of all time in my eyes. He made it look effortless and could transition so seamlessly.
@kt_boxing8887
@kt_boxing8887 4 жыл бұрын
SPIDERM0OSE Leonard only took that fight after 26-0 26 knockouts Mugabi had a War with him; Marvin practically begged for the fight in 1982 and Ray knew it wasn’t winnable back then. So he retired stayed fresh and waited for Marvin to pass his sell by date. Marvin in his prime, there is no escape. Ray could run around when he lost a step. But had it happened 5 years earlier; Marvin is going to close that gap and cut the range and force you to fight and trade punches with him. Duran, Hearns all those guys experienced it. Not to say Ray couldn’t have won because he stood his ground and fought a war against Duran in Montreal. But as for Tommy, they could run that fight back 100 times and Marvin would win every time. Everyone respected Tommy’s right hand even in fights he had trouble in like Leonard and Benitez; those guys stayed shy of the right hand and respected it. Marvin was the first in his career that had no respect for his power. Marvin has even said he saw fear in Tommy’s eyes when that first right hand landed on top of his head. He said he wanted him to land it again so he could see his power wasn’t going to do anything. Tommy had no idea what to do after that point. He was taught to deliver dynamite punches by Manny. But that wiry frame was not built to eat a sustained beating. It was only a matter of time once the right hand didn’t work as it was against Barkley.

It's a damn shame we don't have a meticulously detailed book or Instructional about Marvin's boxing style. Today's "switch hitters" (southpaws who *sometimes* go Ortho) don't have that fluidity Marvin had. He hunted dudes down no matter which way they went. When they thought they angled/ pivoted out they'd meet a power punch/combination. When they backed up he caught them with leaping punches. His style is truly one of a kind and it's nearly tragic we'll never really know how he did it.

Nothing In life came easy for Hagler this is what made him a man and one of the best Middleweights in boxing history . Brought up by his single Mother in the projects of Detroit , hiding under his bed as a small boy during the black riots in the 1960’s . Hagler has amateur background he clawed his way up the rankings , making a few hundred dollars a fight and bad decisions by corrupt judges. His training , hard work , discipline was unmatched by today’s boxers , and his pride for having a world title was first for Hagler , money was secondary.He did not duck any fighter , he fought the best ..... Not everyone can be a world champion but Marvin Hagler is a true example of how one should live there life .

@@Lemon-rk9hq Who did RJJ beat as a middleweight other than a green inexperienced Hopkins? Greb resume has 0 ducks likewise with Ali as a heavyweight, these two ducked nobody. RJJ ducked Gerald Mcclellan and Julian Jackson as middleweights.

He would eat any middleweight alive right now. With ease, it would be a one sided mauling.

Raoul Duke agree 100%. Tougher and more skilled than any guys doing it at 160 today. Too versatile for all of them.

mrALO true I also believe he beats canelo badly I like canelo and he’s a very good counter puncher and boxer but man Hagler was a different animal

Lemon26 that’s a great fight there but I’m with you. Canelo gasses and Hagler has a monster tank. Hagler could pressure Canelo and take his shot like GGG did but he’d be bringing way more speed, angles, range, pace, combination punching and defense. Stops Canelo in 10 I think
