A suggestion for those watching and thinking about buying: make sure your phone's volume is halfway. That's about how loud the actual drum is when played with fingers. The mallets give you a more louder sound.

Just learning about this great instrument... I am wondering, does anyone ever use a contact microphone (piezo) to amplify, or “electrify” the sound?
@jayweh3 жыл бұрын
lol, if I put my phone on halfway, I cease to hear any sound. :D

@@noisetv1863 I once saw an African street band at a festival who used electrified calimbas ('thumb pianos') and other various electrified instruments. They only had about 5 songs but they were great, so they played them in a continuous loop and everyone was just dancing and enjoying the music. Was pretty great

@@jayweh The transients instruments like this produce are too complex for phone speakers. Headphones at a minimum.

Planning on buying a mini but I can’t decide on key. I also play the Kalimba which I have key’d to C for the most part. I think the 2 would be great recorded together so I am leaning toward C. But could you tell me the difference between the pentatonic and Akebono tuning?
@grahmdoe27134 жыл бұрын
The Akebono tuning is also pentatonic. It uses different intervals than a minor or major though. More info here: hapidrum.co/hapi-drum-mini

I have one and love it. How hard do you have to hit it with your finger tips? I love playing with the mallets.
@darkfrost19017 жыл бұрын
Eric N Horowitz Keep practicing on it with your fingertips and you'll learn how to get perfectly clear tones out of it without the mallets. Muting brings out great tones too by placing your hand over some tongues while playing others. Also placing it in different areas such as over a small cardboard box or anything that can enhance the acoustics can drastically change the sound. Experiment and have fun with it. That's what it's all about with these instruments.

So how different is this from the Hang Drum ? :)
@TheBandMan6 жыл бұрын
It’s about a tenth of the price...
@kineiya5 жыл бұрын
You can find mini portable hang drums 5.5 and 6 inch with 8 notes in key of c and d for around $45.00 to $60.00 on ebay and other places.
@JackDraak5 жыл бұрын
@@kineiya I think you mean "tank drums". A Hang or hang-style drum has no cuts in it, the way tank drums do. Also, from my personal experience, if you want the sound you hear from this HAPI Mini you'll have to pay for a HAPI Mini.... I got one of those "$45-60" drums from overseas; it was very poorly tuned, and the supplier doesn't care. (You can hear it on my channel any minute now, as I'm de-unlisting the video now that the supplier had a chance to hear it and respond.

Aldrin Dominic my HAPI is arriving tomorrow and I own a hang drum as well. I’m looking forward to using this abroad as the hang drum isn’t convenient to take. It’s huge
