It's always been one of my favourite Beatles tracks, not least because the whole band performs brilliantly. Paul's bassline really pulls it all together and makes sense of John 's eccentric time signature changes. It's ironic that it's also one the few great ensemble performances by the whole band on an album called "The Beatles" given that most of the album sounds like a collection of solo tracks by Our Heroes.
@uraniajam3 жыл бұрын
A lot of us seem to be trying to say the same thing about the way they work together - particularly with regard to multiple “time signatures.” This cover does an excellent job of bringing the precision involved TO LIGHT. One thing I noticed is that I can play along IN TIME because I dug the groove so much - for so many years - over so many multiple listenings. The fact that the song can hold a groove through all of this (due, in no small part, to Ringo) allows ME to, in essence, become a “Fifth“ Beatle as I play along with my acoustic and sing with John. They are so tight, they allow me to have a fifth time that my “je ne sais quoi” distills as the essence of the groove - as each of them evidently must also feel. INCRED

@Ebvidur4 жыл бұрын
@The Mystic Fez after Brian Epstein died they mostly used fender amps.
@harveycan58203 жыл бұрын
In this period they used the Vox solid state amp, I believe it is the UL840 model. These have a very crisp built-in distortion circuit. Also perhaps some fuzz boxes. And of course playing through the Leslie amp with rotating speaker, which my guess is the effect on the picking pattern at the beginning of the song. They were experimenting with many sounds for instruments and amps; and on the studio side Geoff Emerick and George Martin were also pushing past the usual barriers. Nice job especially on bass, drums, SG sounds.

Well done man, this song is quite strange to play really. Is that how they did the final section? Paul playing Rickenbacker and Hofner?
@neilcandeloramusic6 жыл бұрын
I can only speak for the main bass of the song being the Rick. The end just sounds like 2 different, double tracked bass parts to me. We used hofners and fender six's for those overdub parts to get a different sound, and, because those were the basses that we had while recording.

Awesome tutorial. One question about the section "She's well acquainted.." (00:14 to 00:43). This section seems to vamp between an arpegiated Dm add 6 chord and an arpegiated Am7 chord. On the lead guitar (the red guitar), are you playing the triad D,F,B on the top three strings? From your fingering it looks different, but I can't really see so clearly. The staccato syncopation in this part is my favorite part of the song. Also, for the "Mother Superior" section, do you think the A7 is played open like you have it, or maybe as a barre with the root on the 5th fret. (So the chord notes would be A, E, G, C#, G, A.) Similarly for the G(7?) chord in that section: Barred on the third fret with the same shape (G, D, F, B, F, G). Lennon tended to play his flat 7 chords this way. Thanks again for the great run-through!
@AblyHouse4 жыл бұрын
Nessie - no problem! I am playing two notes during the first staccato section. xxxx67 for Dm6 and xxxx55 for Am. That part is great, the placement of the stabs catch you by surprise! And yes its very possible John could have played the A7 somewhere else. Id have to take a closer look, he could have played both. They sound a bit different but the notes are the same order
