@stickman17423 жыл бұрын
This song has always been popular when allowed to be heard so I wouldn't call it minor. The Beatles management just didn't push it at the time and it kind of got lost. It was thrown on an unimportant album. I remember becoming a Beatle fan as a teen in later years and then one day I heard this great song and wondered what is that? I knew it was Beatles, but was shocked I'd never heard it before. It was not treated properly when it was created.

This solo was by Lennon but you couldn't be more dead on about Harrison's ingenius knack for solos. The other Beatles admired him and relied on him for it. It's why he was in the band. He created many splendid lead parts for Beatle songs that practically made the songs in themselves. These gems inspired countless guitarists, some of the best ever. An example was Steve Lukather who said Harrison's solo in I Saw Her Standing There was why he learned to play guitar. "I wore the needle out picking it up and playing that solo over and over," he said. Jeff Lynne said Harrison had a "velvet touch" on slide and "... was my favorite ever". Mick Jagger himself said of Harrison, "as a guitarist, he invented many classic lines that were much copied by others..." Your opinion may not apply on this particular song but is right on the money in general and shared by discerning musicians and fans everywhere.

You have to come up with a guitar solo that fits the song and only lasts 18 seconds. How in the world did you come up with something so great-sounding and brilliant, George Harrison? And kudos Mr. House. One of my fave Beatles songs.

It seems like back at that point in time, the Beatles more rocking songs weren't being appreciated and pushed as much as the ballads and lighter material. I guess the marketing people weren't aware that harder rocking songs would take over soon. The Beatles management didn't want to push songs like Hey Bulldog, I Am the Walrus, While My Guitar Gently Weeps or Revolution. They preferred going with things like Hello, Goodbye. The test of time has shown that the more rocking songs have lasted and continue to be popular to this day, but they couldn't have known that back then.

YES! Finally, an amazing full band cover of my all time favourite Beatles song! Paul's bassline is the thing that makes me want a Rickenbacker bass so badly (that and Roger Waters). Also, I never knew that John played the solo ALONG with George. I've just that it was only one or the other. I do know that in the video for "Hey Bulldog" you can see John with his Casino, but for some reason it always struck me as only George playing the solo. I'm curious as to where you guys got that information. Either way, great performance as usual!
@AblyHouse5 жыл бұрын
Dakota55 - Thanks, I dont know for sure and its probably one or the other. I think maybe John and George worked out a solo together and thats why he’s holding the casino. The solo is also double tracked so I thought it would be cool to represent that part where john has the casino
@lennon1252 Жыл бұрын
When Yellow Submarine was originally released to theaters in 1968, the song was deleted from American prints of the film due to time constraints. The restoration of the Hey Bulldog sequence of the film did not occur until 1999, when the film was re-released along with a new soundtrack album, Yellow Submarine Songtrack. Although Wikipedia claims John played the lead Geoff Emerick says it was George who "nailed it". Others think it sounds like Paul.

This is the absolute best Hey Bulldog cover because of the attention to detail to the dry drum sound on the drums, PLUS the loosened tone of the overdub snare! Bravo! The percussive pluck of the bass is spot on; wondering what settings you used (was the treble pickup the only one on for example?); those guitars...didn't realize the Casino was used to sweeten up the SG solos, piano also perfect! I loved all of it!
@neilcandeloramusic2 жыл бұрын
No, neck pickup only - i've never used the treble pickup by itself for anything. Can't remember amp settings that much, just toyed with them til they sounded good! Every bass amp has a different EQ curve etc. I used the vintage mutes on my bass...but not sure if i would i was redo it, a little too choked.
