I just did this process for one of my orchids.. I trimmed a lot of the old roots ...hope I didn't trim too much. My orchid only ever grows three leaves and then one dies and it repeats...hoping this helps

Cecelia your weather is just a bit hotter & more humid than here in Florida. My first batch of orchids I put in hanging pots & put them in an old oak in my yard. I made sure they had bright light but not direct light. Then I forgot about them. Didn’t mean too, but I realized we had showers every afternoon. Hi. I am watching from Brooklyn, New York City. I usually use the water from the rice that I have rinsed for my plants. What I will do now is after rinsing the rice and saving that water,add some more rice to it and let it sit overnight.

The Algorithm brought me your video first thing today. And I watched it while having breakfast. (The 5 squirrels in my head need to feed on something while the rest of me is restfull!) Thanks for sharing all these great tips! I did not think that orchid would survive when I first saw it so it was amazing to see its transformation. I struggle with keeping my orchids healthy so I’ll definitely try some of the tips in your video. Hopefully with this I can get my orchids to flower too since they only ever have flowers when I first get them from the store but even after having them for 1 year+ I still haven’t been able to get it to flower for me. Also it’s nice to see that you can use easily accessible ingredients like rice and baking soda to revive it.

I was wondering why you didn’t use the bread crumbs in water therapy solution for this weak plant, to provide the nutrients you talked about in the first video, instead of plain rice water? Just curious if there was another angle to this orchid care that I overlooked. Thank you Orchids Friend! Granny from NE Ohio. Thank you for your great questions! The reason I didn’t use breadcrumbs in the rice water solution is that breadcrumbs mainly provide nutrients for the roots of the plant in a natural growing environment, acting as food when the plant needs it. However, rice water is also an excellent nutrient source, and in this video, I wanted to focus on reviving the health of the weak orchid without overloading it with nutrients. Sometimes, something as simple as rice water is enough to support the plant’s recovery! As for the growing medium, sphagnum moss is great for orchids, especially because it retains moisture while draining well. Sphagnum moss is not the moss that hangs on tree branches, but it is a natural type of moss commonly used for orchids. Orchids may prefer sphagnum moss because it helps maintain moisture without the plant becoming waterlogged. However, each type of orchid may have its own preferences, so you can try and adjust based on how your plant responds. Wishing you continued success in caring for your orchids! 🌸

I'm amazed by your knowledge of how to revive these orchids. I'm quite curious about where you gathered your knowledge from? And I'd like to know if these treatments that you share on your channel are also helpful to other plants that are no longer growing and blooming as they did before? For example, plants that I have grown from 8 inches (3 Crown of Christ) and potted together in what I thought was a suitably larger ceramic pot🎉 (1ft wide at the top 4 corners and slightly less at the bottom) allowed these to grow and bloom constantly. Now, The lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off. The plants are still producing blooms constantly. But once I explained my concerns about the lower leaves dying off so regularly to the owner of the top nursery here, he said that it was probably time to repot the plant, which is now slightly over 4 feet tall, into a larger pot. I'm wondering if this is the only answer or if adding your nutrients used for your orchids would be helpful as well.

My knowledge of caring for orchids and other plants mainly comes from learning from various sources, including research, books, and personal experience through experimentation and observation. I also learn from the plant-loving community and from those with years of experience in plant care. Regarding your question, the yellowing and dropping of the lower leaves of your "Crown of Christ" is a common occurrence with many plants, especially as they mature and grow. However, if the plant is still blooming regularly but the lower leaves keep dropping, it may be a sign that the plant is lacking nutrients or doesn't have enough space for root development. Repotting is a good solution if the plant has outgrown its current pot and doesn't have enough room to grow. You can try transferring it to a larger pot to give it more space and improve root development. Additionally, the nutrients I use, like rice water, banana peels, coffee, and oatmeal, could also be beneficial for your "Crown of Christ" plant. These nutrients not only provide essential vitamins and minerals but also help boost the plant's immunity. You could try using them to supply nutrients to your plant and help it become healthier, especially if it's lacking in nutrition.
