To clarify for people who aren't super familiar with what is and isn't complicated on the piano, most of the notes he plays aren't *really* individual notes. They are arpeggios, single chords broken up into individual notes, and with a little technical practice, it isn't actually *that* complex. It's all just 1 chord. But longer and bigger... That's what she said.

He keeps saying that it's weirdly dark or ominous but mixed with other "cheery" moods or whatever. I don't want to be all edgy or whatever, but that's how getting older kind of is. The original Birthday song is all happy and gives off the feeling that the whole world or life is always bright and cheerful, which is not always the case. Charles's version, I think, actually puts the image in mind of dark or ominous times, but also makes you remember about happy times with the higher notes, which is just how life is: both dark and bright. Growing older is seen (at a younger age) so cool and stuff, but as you get older, you see that getting older means that there is both ups and downs to life, just like this version of Happy Birthday sort of shows (when you think about it). Idk I guess I'm just overanalyzing, this is just what I thought as I listened to the song. Great composition!!👍

Charles should've clarified: it's not that he's avoiding minor chords (he used a lot), but that he's not changing the melody to conform to a minor scale. The notes of the melody have not changed from the "major" version, just re-harmonized to be ominous.
