Yeah before you laugh at someone you might want to actually listen to what they said because everything you just wrote is wrong and the one thing he actually did misspeak on you didn’t mention. If you were paying attention you would’ve heard him say 5.9 million at the beginning then later he said essentially 6 million which is correct following rounding rules. Also, he didn’t say that buyout was to be over 25 years. What he did say was that they negotiated a settlement of 1.2 million a year for 25 years. As for the number of people, he said three million, not 9 billion more people. He also said 2035, not 2030.

If the Mets had bought him out, they wouldn't have had any cap room to add pieces, like Mike Hampton, for their 2000 team that made the WS. So they chose to defer the contract over time. And at the time, they had an account with Bernie Madoff, so they were expecting make more than double of what they would have to pay out to Bobby Bo. At the time, in early 2000, the deal made business sense. Nobody could have foreseen what would happen with Bernie Madoff.
