It's not exactly the fact it isn't normal, rather it's a terrible coping mechanism for pain/hurt. You're bottling up your emotions by using a happy face as a front which, over time, will eventually become extremely unhealthy and dangerous for your health.

This song perfectly portrays Alastor's personality, it's like his theme song like wow... He always seems "happy", he tries to hide his true feelings under his big smile to convince himself and others that he is the one in control. He tries to be heartless, to not care about the others, he tries to control his emotions and even the idea of ​​having real sympathy for the hotel crew disgusts him. God, Alastor is such a well-written character! I love all the references you put in your animation, this has to be one of the most well made animatics I've ever seen! Fantastic job, bravo! 📻🦌❤

I really like the way you draw Alastor's expressions. He's still constantly smiling, but it's a lot easier to read his feelings than in the show. I know that's the point, that he constantly smiles so that people can't read him, but it's cool to see him more expressive while keeping the smile.

DUDE OH MY GOD, the way I audibly screeched from 0:29 to 0:33. I'm crazy I'm crazy I'm crazy. The agnst is mmmmmmmmm SO GOOD. Makes me want to write an angst hurt comfort fic with Alastor. Which ohhhhhh my god I have been itching to write something but for some reason (aka my brain jingling keys in my face and saying, "look at this shiny thing that isn't you sitting down to start writing yet another fic that you may never finish.") I love how you have parts of the pilot and parts of season 1 summarized in this along with hints of his past/death and then extra! Also in my opinion you caught a good bit of alastor's extremely well thought out character almost perfect in this animation! This is one of the best animations I've seen that did a fantastic job on alastor's character and captureing the pilot and season 1 very well! 1:05 I just noticed that one of the creatures that alastor y'know, spawns, is cut and then it cuts to alastor being hurt! That's such a good detail!

0:50 For some reason I really liked the transition here from Alastor being tired of Mimsy to happy to see Rosie! That not even MENTIONING 1:23 where instead of the redrawn clips we have him ACTUALLY going full into the song- and the bit where he uses his fingers to gesture widening a smile is just MWA chefs kiss I really like how you are able to capture the style so well, AND the contrasting of Alastors green powers with the toned down reddish background (also this animatic made me realize that Alastors demon form doesn’t have a nose 😂)
