Awesome to see you again. I really enjoy your podcasts. I absolutely love the entire Mysterious Sea collection and have plans for all three of them. I am an inveterate sock knitter. I started on DPNs, which I still like a lot, but I had to rotate stitches to avoid ladders. I discovered 2 circulars and have switched pretty exclusively to that method now and I love it: no ladders! I also knit my pairs in tandem (each on it's own pair of circs - I do the cuffs on each, then 10 rows on each switching back and forth, then both heels/turns, then back to 10 rows on each in turn, then toes). I never had Second Sock Syndrome, but I found my tension could change between socks if I knit them one at a time. I have a high instep, so I knit my heel flaps longer than recommended in the pattern, and the French/Round Heel fits my heel perfectly. I've discovered a perfect way to decrease the gussets that gives a beautiful, snug fit (Basic Sock with a Double Gusset Heel on Rav). I have found my perfect toe. I've discovered that I need to use one size larger needle (2.5mm) for the cuffs and first 30 rows before switching back to my regular needle (2.25mm) for the rest of the sock. I also have discovered that if the pattern tightens the fabric (cables, slipped stitches, etc.) I need to cast on the next size up (normally 64 stitches, so 72) for the leg and then decrease my gusset back down to 64. This is over years of figuring out my perfect fit for socks.

Pocket T-Shirts! Soooo freakin cool/cute! You could make a giant pocket in the middle of a t-shirt to hold yarn in while knitting a project! Don't ask why, ask why not 👍👍 ...AND WOOL SPORTS IS REAL!🧶🧶🧶

I knit socks a lot, I knit both toe up and top down. All types of heels (they all fit me just fine). I generally knit my husband heel flap/gusset or afterthought heels (with extra rounds) because he has a higher instep. My son has skinny legs, so he gets fully ribbed socks, either 3x1 or 2x2. My daughter prefers rib for the whole leg, but any heel works. We all wear mostly handknit socks.

Knit City sounded fabulous. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us. Next year … Toronto … I’m so there. The FOMO was awful! Love the sweater you knit for your nephew Vincent. Gorgeous. I’ve been knitting socks for 20+ years. Have tried it all and have found I like magic loop and working both socks concurrently. Shadow Wrap Heel fits my narrow heel the best. And I always have 2 to 3 pairs going at the same time. Living in Manhattan I’m on public transportation all the time and I’m always stopping and knitting in Central Park. So, there’s always a pair or two in my tote bag when I’m out and about. Looking forward to receiving the NATR mystery kit and the mysterious Tropics club too. Have a great 2 weeks.

My sock formula is Tanja Murray's Rounded Toe, 90% of my instep's actual width in gauge (so 56 sts in stockinette or 72 sts in colourwork), the Fish Lips Kiss Heel, the same width through the leg, a 1x1 rib cuff and a sewn bind off. I like this method because i can shape aggressively in the calf if I'm making knee-highs. Two-at-a-time so I don't get Second Sock Syndrome, using Magic Loop.

I have been working on my sock recipe as well. I like cuff down and right now I am finding that the shadow wrap heel works for me. I do have a high instep so I cast on 68 std and use 33 std for my heel and 35 on top of my foot. I find it fits better with that small adjustment. My biggest challenge is the toe.. I am still trying to perfect that part of my recipe.

Vide-poche…what a great word! I don’t think we have an equivalent in English, at least not in Canadian English. Some people might call it a coin dish. On the topic of “voyons”…wow do I miss Québec! I think the closest equivalent in English would be, “Yeah, well , anyway….” (with one’s voice trailing off aimlessly). Great episode 😊.

Great podcast. I can’t wait to get my Kevin and Ray package in the mail. It must be fabulous to have a job that is so much fun and tickles your creative side as well. I love the natural stockyarn. Warm and tough. That’s a great idea and there is definitely a need for that. I have been using two circular needles for my socks and I really like it. No fiddling around with magic lamp or depends for me at the moment. I can always change my mind right?🦊

Socks that fit me best are either toe up with a fleegle heel (Turkish cast on, Italian bind off) or cuff down with a German short row heel (long tail co, kitchener bo). My preferred sock height is 5" from where heel touches ground. When knitting socks for my husband I have found that what works best for him is either to up with fleegle heel (Turkish co, stretchy bo) or cuff down (long tail co), a regular slip stitch heel flap, continue the slip stitch for the gusset, then do slip stitch on the sole only beginning 5" from desired foot length (his foot is 10.5" so from 5" to 8"), ending with a rounded toe. His preferred sock height is 5" from where heel touches ground. Also, for his I cast on 64 sts when using thicker yarn (Kroy or sport weight) or 72 sts for lighter yarn (WYS).

I'll fight Vincent for the tightest-bind-off-er title! But for me the solution is a crochet hook. With a hook I can make the bindoff as loose or tight as I want, with needles, I am absolutely certain even stuff like JSSBO will be too tight!
