In "Legends", the architect who built the Death Star really was tortured horribly by the Emperor. The poor guy was even essence-transferred into clone bodies so Palpatine could brutally murder him over and over again every time he screwed up even slightly from then on.

There was an entire Jedi Order, basically every Sith... ever, some of the inquisitors and high-ranking officials were almost as dangerous as vader... and let's not forget that this story is based on 1970's/80's tech, so they basically have everything backed up on physical media...

@@nathanielbass771 It is a very esoteric power that only a very few Sith Lords possessed, and Palpatine did take advantage of it and used it to cheat death- in "Legends" (and implicitly in the sequels), he had his own clone bodies and uses them to survive the end of ROTJ, but those clones are unstable because he's become SO powerful and evil that most can't hold his essence for very long without falling apart, and ended up being vanquished by Luke, Leia and a bunch of Jedi ghosts. Vader didn't know how to do this though, and neither did any Inquisitor. Jedi Masters didn't know it either and most wouldn't use it if they did as it stemmed from an immoral teaching- you have to know how to use your own essence to possess someone else first.

It also didn't hurt that palpy was figured out how to clone force user otherwise you had to take the chance if u could not overpower the persons will then you would be sent to the void (star wars hell)

Han was wanted dead or alive, and knew that bounty hunter almost always took his captures in dead, so yes he shot first in pre-self defence, and back in the day we all knew that and George might have forgotten because of pressures, am I the ONLY one who remembers what the by-line was?
