when i was a little kid in the 1980's my mom would have the kids help make thanksgiving dinner ....all the little kids would crumble up sweet cornbread for the cornbread dressing ... (we only used salt, pepper, lots of rubbed sage then sautéed onions, celery & butter , chicken broth and 1 or 2 eggs in our cornbread dressing) ....then we each had a dish we would prepare...we helped until we were old enough to make it on our own and now i make all of it on my own... i also did the same with my kids passing on the tradition of helping with dinner (none of my siblings do thanksgiving... plus they all live in different states ) I'm the only one that does Thanksgiving dinners (well i use to until 2018 when my father passed away and also b/c my kids are grown now and rather go to friends on Thanksgiving ) so b/c i had kids and my siblings didn't I'm the only one with the memory full of those recipes plus i was the baby of the family so I'm the only one that made every dish b/c when a sibling would leave the "nest" i took on their dish they made lol ... thanksgiving really isn't the same since my dad passed in 2018 its like all the excitement and joy went away when he passed on ... same with all his siblings my aunts and uncle ... it just doesn't feel right anymore without them ...and my kids are at that age now where they aren't into it if there isn't a lot of people to visit with like family or friends ... a lot of family has passed so the kids rather go to friends houses so they can be around a lot of people ... i kind of miss it mainly the visiting part ...same with Christmas and other holidays ... but it is what it is now ...just not the same anymore ...

For 15 yrs I was away from my kids and grandkids, taking care of parents. Then after they passed I just stayed, until my grt grandson was born 3.5 m early. I made a phone call to my previous landlady. She had 1 apt available, and there would be a $35 app fee. To make a long story short, 2 wks later I was moving. The holidays aft Mom and dad were gone. My neighbors and I would cook up a feast. We had ham and turkey, rolls, sides, cheesecake, pies and cookies. If your lonely during the holidays perhaps visit a nursing home.

Dressing … I use sautéed celery & onions in butter then mix up with my cornbread and savory herb stuffing mix, sage of course and salt & pepper and then pour chicken broth all over it and bake it. Mine actually came out perfectly this year. Loved your decorations. Glad to see 98% of the family there.

I turned boxed stuffing into southern cornbread dressing. It was just as good as what my mom used to make my whole life. Mom died in 2005 and this year was the first year the family ate it since. Very comforting!!

I understand Levi's desire to get better fast. After two weeks and two doctors, I am finally on the mend from a sinus infection and congestion. I spent Thanksgiving home alone with my puppy to keep everyone else healthy.

Hey Kim, I use the stuffing mix but tweak it. I add a stick of butter, 1 egg, a can of celery soup or cream of chicken, and some onions and a can of chicken. Sometimes I add chicken broth. Your porch is too cute

Beautiful porch I love all of it. Your stuffing looks almost like mine. Only thing I add different is add chopped up fine carrot , celery and apple added to the dressing. The apple helps to keep it moist. I add probably in your amount I would add three small peeled chopped up apples. Love you all

Forgot to mention, add the chopped up celery, carrot, and apple to your boiling mixture with your chicken that way everything will soften

He is an alcoholic and a veteran thank God the veterans hospital helps now when he needs it quite often lately. I bless Tony and I bless my son sons. I make my stuffing almost the same way you did except that I use sausage instead of chicken and don’t add sugar. I think your mom adds sugar to everything. lol I prefer the jelled cranberry in the can as well. Time for you to take it easy now. Nice fall decorations just took mine down today all last wk I was doing every rm for Christmas except the bay window I wait until today to do a winter scene maybe add couple small Christmas trees until after Christmas leave winter one until time to do Valentine’s Day. Hey Kim and Levi, everything looks so good. I was alone again this year but still went ahead and made my dinner. We always made our dressing by breaking up bread but the last two years I just went with the stove top as well. This year I had an extra small aluminum pan so I stuck it in the oven like you did and I must say it came out very good. So that's how I'll be doing it from here on out as it's much easier. But I still love my mom's dressing with breaking the bread but she's been gone 14 years and I miss breaking bread with her as the saying goes and things are much easier these days with the boxes. I hope Levi gets to feeling better. Thanks for sharing your little video. Much love 💜

Kim, dad did most the cooking on holidays. He was a cook in the army. One Thanksgiving he and mom made 21 pumpkin pies and invited drs and nurses from St Joes Hosp. There was a steady stream coming and going all day. The neighbors had to have thought someone was in bad shape. I was abt 3 yrs old , thats been 63 yrs ago

I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving. I have lived in many places (Army brat) and have to say I have never heard of or tasted dressing/stuffing with sugar in it. It looked delicious. I make mine with cooked breakfast sausage, celery, onions, and diced water chestnuts. I pray Levi gets better soon 🙏.

I use the same thing mom used from back in the day for a bad cough n cold. I get a 2oz shot of Crown Royal or bourbon , 6 shakes of Louisiana hot sauce, 1 shot of Peppermint Schnapps n 2 slices of lemon. Then shoot it n go to bed or chill out while watching a good tv program!! Works everytime!!
