So I found me a really nice Tube TV flat screen my neighbors threw out, then I got EG for a good price on eBay surprisingly (30 shipped w/ case, great condition) and just yesterday got my PS1 Guncon in mail along with some great PS1 RPGs and Light Gun games and its all cuz of this review. Elemental Gearbolt looks awesome and I immediately starting looking for it after the first time I watched this video. I also picked up Point Blank on your suggestion cuz you made it sound awesome and it looked like a fun game. I plan on getting the PB3 with Guncon so I can have 2 guns. Thx for the great video Derek, we would all love to see more!!!

the panzer dragoon music at the end... damn I had goosebumps, I love that series so freaking much, especially the soundtrack
@StopSkeletonsFromFighting12 жыл бұрын
I hear you, there are so many great RPGs out there but please understand that HVGN isn't my job. My output is slow enough as it is, and in the time it would take me to play through something like Legend of the Dragoon or Skies of Arcadia, I could play through so many other, shorter games.

@jfreakzach3 жыл бұрын
@@dickmonddickelheimer7608 yeesh I have not! Lol I keep messing that up
@dickmonddickelheimer76083 жыл бұрын
@@jfreakzach yea I was stuck on there forever, my problem was that I had that line from this review stuck in my head about how you don't have to reload but you can't shoot fast. That's actually wrong, you CAN shoot fast and its require for beating the carrier. There's a channel called World of Long Plays where it shows the player doing rapid fire with the guncon, there's a different visual effect when it hits the enemy. Lol for me to do it with the guncon I make a fist then stick my index finger out and rapidly shake it back and forth on the trigger, you can hit the rapid fire by using the guncon normally too but the carrier requires extreme rapid fire so you gotta find a way comfortable to hold the guncon while getting that many shots off. The later levels are gorgeous in case you're interested in going back into it, I've had the game for years and still haven't beaten it but I've got close.

Very nice review, HVGN! I remember playing this and Project Horned Owl back in jr. high and those were fun games, but Elemental Gearbolt really did make you earn victory, which is just fine in my book. I would love to see a "Working Designs" collection, even if that is highly unlikely, just because they put out so many quality games.

I'm moving away from 8-bit and 16-bit games for awhile. I feel that era has been pretty well covered by reviewers at this point, it's time for something else. I'll come back to them again, but for now I'm more interested in moving to a slightly more recent era.

Don't be fooled Project Horned Owl is a ton of fun to play. Its not a completely hard game like Gearbolt here but its just plain fun blasting all the mechs and robots they send your way. I still own this awesome game but you didn't mention anything about the hidden power ups that existed in the game. Do a search and you will find hidden items the power up specific elementals and you must you that specific elemental to even shoot it.

Instantly paused at 1:47 to see a boxed copy of Earthbound (or, at least Earthbound's box) sitting on top of the fireplace, sitting underneath a stack of various games like it was a coaster. I was forced to simultaneously dry my crying eyes and change my underwear. Put that thing on display! Holy crap I don't even wanna go down the list of horrible things I'd do to get my hands on that. By far my favorite game of all time but incredibly expensive.
