This has been really informative, especially for someone like me born in Ghana but grown in UK. It's been very educational for me. I would be grateful if you could give me the meaning of Sefah. I have been trying to trace this name and it's origin so my children can pass it on and understand it's history. I would also like to know the meaning of Yeboah, Brobe and Arko

what is the origin of Gyan surname heard its Tanzanian.
@cynthiaadjei38993 жыл бұрын
The name Gyan is an akan's name. But origin from bono.
@benjaminamoah86763 жыл бұрын
"Gyan" is of Guan origin, I think. Specifically from the Guan Highlanders. It is believed that the Guans migrated from the East and there are some remnants in the East so it will not be a surprise to find some in Tanzania.

Whenever Akans are being discussed, they include Guans. Are Guans also Akans?
@patrickagyei65473 жыл бұрын
Yes they are
@benjaminamoah86763 жыл бұрын
@@patrickagyei6547 Sorry Patrick, Guans are not Akans. Few facts: Guans were in West Africa over 1200 years before the arrival of the Akans from the North. Guans trace their lineage through their fathers, but Akans through their mothers. Guans were lead by Priests, Akans are lead by Kings. Guans avoid war at all cost, Akans are warriors. Guan architecture is circular based while Akan are 4-cornered based. the list goes on and on. Over time these two cultures have merged into what we have today. All ethnic groups in Ghana have been influenced by Guans. Fante originally spoke the Bono (Akan) language but mixing with the Etsi/Efutu/Ewutu (Guans) resulted in Fante. The same goes for the Ewes, Gas, Akwapims, etc.
