Hit the nail on the head. There is so much they can do with this era it would be great to see. They need more factions. They already have a shit ton of options to throw into the factions. Make a sea people horde faction, Crete factions, thracians, maybe even some horde Scythians or nomadic horseman factions besides the amazons. Maybe even some random celts coming in to say what's up.

They’re straight up giving up on history aren’t they? Historical mode hasn’t been given anything like the attention Myth mode has. Warhammer is the money maker so that’s where they’re staying I guess It’s sad. I love historical Total War games and I’m not really a fan of the fantasy titles
@trevorburton32903 жыл бұрын
I loved the historical titles, but warhammer 2 is probably the best total war game ever. The sheer amount of options on the battlefield and in terms of campaign styles is amazing. I can't be bothered to play the other titles they feel so inferior to me now. I can see why they are going in this direction. Like a new Rome for example the best they can do is make a more interesting campaign map, but its going to be the same old same for battles; phalanx, romans soldiers using pila, etc. Not to say its bad its just that very little can be done to refine it without changing the historical context and add something new or fresh to sell the game.
@MedjayofFaiyum3 жыл бұрын
Bear in mind that the historical titles themselves after Rome 2 didn’t do great. No matter how much marketing Attila failed, 3k was abandoned in favour of a new 3k (whatever that means) and TOB didn’t deserve to flop so bad as it did.
@MedjayofFaiyum3 жыл бұрын
Fantasy is making the mainstream money for now and historical isn’t. Yet for Paradox historical is making them boatloads. Weird irony here. Historical isn’t dead, it’s just we’ve had a mix of historical fantasy which doesn’t satisfy audiences maybe the fantasy ones. Until the new historical total war comes, we won’t know. The only other thing I would say and let me be controversial here: no. I don’t think historical is declining. I don’t agree that its bad with the new titles. The next historical game will prob have a lot of old and senior devs that worked on previous total war games to come back because CA want the old fans to a degree. But don’t expect the next historical total war to be on the features of Rome 1 or med 2. Will features be added from the old games? Yes. But it won’t feel like the same unless CA make some changes. While Rome 1/Med 2 had its day, the new devs at CA have their own image of what total war is supposed to be. I suppose, as fans, we all have our idea of what a historical total war should be. Maybe it’s time we stopped for a second and see something positive.

I love Greek Mythology and History, I have read and listened the Iliad and the Odyssey, but I don't see a dedicated TW game as a love letter to those, what I see is a cynical Warhammer DLC done with a "Troy" skin. Another "BIG MONSTER GOES RAWR!!!", gimmick resource mechanic and those purple ghosts really sting my eyes, it look like something for Warhammer TW. And if they haven't fixed infantry combat, which should be the most fighting in a Troy TW game, then what else is there to say. But this is a great review, I like you being really candid, and I'd only like if these reviews were longer.
@happycompy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I think they game might've felt more "legit" if it was a full sized game designed for mythology from the get-go. That said, Warhammer with a mythology skin is good enough for me for a DLC. I'm easy to please there because of how much of a mythology content drought we're currently in in the strategy sphere, and because of how much I enjoy Total War gameplay. I'd still love a proper mythology TW. Glad you enjoyed the review man!

If they added meaty campaign mechanics with the historical mode, Troy will be a better game even with copy-pasted deep campaign mechanics from historical total wars. For me, a game with copy-pasted deep mechanics is better than a simplified game that is too lazy to copy-paste important mechanics. Anyway, Troy is fun but it can be improved if it copy-pasted stuff. Also, I think no one will complain if they copy-pasted stuff, no one will say CA is lazy for copy-pasting things they did that made games like 3k, Rome 2, and attila a great game due to this mechanic that make the game deep and meaningful.

I was going to buy it, I wanted to buy it... but the price they are asking for a one-year-old game is too high. The truth is, this DLC SHOULD have been there from the very beginning, and now asking Steam users to pay for the base game and DLC is a tough pill to swallow. For one part, I want to support it because well... I have played TW: Rome II since forever and just bought Warhammer II to play with my brother and I realise that if every TW fan was like me they would be out of business. I love the ancient past, the bronze age history and Greek mythology so I want to "reward" them for putting out a game of my interest but something feels missing. What you say about the combat puts me off ... I already feel mixed about Warhammer II's lack of formations and this feels like it would be the same on steroids. They should of put it out at a discount for 20-25 quid DLC included and I don't think I would of think about it twice. I can't be the only one that has decided not to pull the trigger because "being wrong at 40 quid" would kind of suck.

Price is indeed much, but I'm pretty hype for this addition of mythical units and mythic mode-though I never minded the Truth Behind the Myth concept. I'm hoping they'll further improve upon this, especially with the suggestions you dished out. What does bug me most is people have been nagging for there to be actual mythical beasts rather than the 'Truth Behind the Myth' concept since the start... And then once we get mythical beasts, these same people are now bitching about Troy being a Warhammer clone?? Like, is there no winning with these pricks? Then, of course, the Warhammer fanboys think this will be a detriment to the development of WH3.

I actually like Historical Mode... sure, it doesn't have the depth of something like Rome 2 that was quite frankly a bit of a headache (and terrible lighting, but I better not stray). I may be in the minority, but I am okay paying for DLC if it drives continued development from CA. I loved Attila and wish that got more developer love. So far I enjoy Troy (I majored in Ancient Greek, the language and translated the Iliad in Ancient Greek in class) and hope they will continue to invest in it now that it's been released on Steam. The biggest insult would be if this Mythos update is the end of their content plans and they stop updates afterwards. I'm focusing on the historical and truth behind the myth modes for now. Historically this game may be inaccurate just by having big lines of infantry charging into one another. From my studies, scholars argue that this time period likely saw smaller forces, and battles were often skirmishes and single combat. Yes that's why in the Iliad may of the fights are between two soldiers while the rest watch on. I think CA could actually implement this by using terrain even more, and this is already the best terrain battlefield of any TW that I've played (skipped all Warhammer).

I can't understand the whining and mixed reviews on steam... I paid 63$ for everything... if your broke go play Dota 2 or something.
@happycompy3 жыл бұрын
I paid $0 but I still think it's overpriced. $75 for a game (especially one with only 12 playable factions) is pretty insane.

@@happycompy I thought after tax and discount on steam it’s 63$ with base game and all dlc?

@@YOGITHABEARv2 Yes, but the operative phrase there is "after discount."
