Paul, sand the back of the pounce paper after creating holes. The pounce wheel pushes the paper to the back then when you hit it with the pad it closes back up. I do a light sand on the back to remove debris and makes a much cleaner dot pattern. Cheers

@@happygilder Another possibility is to just use the printout, and put charcoal or chalk on the back. Spread it a bit with your fingers/piece of cloth to make it an even thin layer and draw with a pencil over the lines on the good side. Will transfer the chalk or charcoal to the surface. The pouncing technique is mostly used when multiple of the same paintings need to be made. So you reduce the time. Thank you for the great channel, makes it easy to exchange tips and tricks for keeping amazing crafts alive.

Man o man you’ve helped me so much. I just officially did my first guild and it’s not good 😂 but I’ll get better forsure. I feel like I didn’t do terrible but I feel as if my guild has some wrinkles and I’m really struggling to figure out how to get it truly an uninterrupted mirror finish. Would like to see a dedicated video on how to make sure the creases are gone you do amazing work and I can’t wait to show you my progress

Hi Dylan, glad to hear you’re giving it a go! The mirror finish is easy to achieve but there are some things that can cause problems. Firstly the size mix. It needs to be distilled water, with 4 diamonds of leaf gelatine per pint. If you don’t use distilled water it will be a messy finish because of the minerals in the water. Secondly, it’s all about burnishing. After the first coat of gold leaf has dried, buff it with cotton wool and the creases will disappear. Do the same with the second coat. Thirdly, only use real gold. Imitation gold won’t have a mirror finish. I always use 23 carat gold leaf. I hope that helps!

I understand that you used the pounce wheels to make it more relatable to the general public, but please allow me to give you a hack I have discovered. If you use a heavy watercolor paper. You can put your design into Lightburn and use the perforate function to create very complex pounce patterns very quickly.

Is there a specific type of paper that is commonly used by sign writers and gilders for sketch pattern and pounce? Or works best i should say
@happygilder
@happygilder 2 жыл бұрын
Hi William. I have always used standard paper that you get in a notepad, but it’s not a technique I use very often so there may be a better alternative.
