She knocked me out the first time I heard this song, I never heard anything like it before. I remember seeing an early video of this song, long before the 1988 release, as far back as 1983-84, with just Edie Brickell in the video dancing around in the rain.

I was very impressed with her SNL performance back in the day. She had Paul Simon ( her FAR more famous husband) in the back of the set unlit while he accompanied her and nobody knew he was there so the focus would remain on her. Class.

Edie's such a blessing. I won't talk her up too much cause I know she's taken. That's the weird thing about being a fan is still gotta be respectful of boundaries. But, just such a down to earth, hometown girl so to speak. Bright eyed. Soft and sweet. Respectful and genuine. And humble - like she's just another person in the crowd. Dont see it too often in celebrities. I wonder if she was part of church choir growing up. She kinda brings that "we're all part of this celebration" feel. I guess it's like "welcoming you in to the party" rather than "come dig my cool sounds" - idk, something like that.. Very uplifting like church choir is meant to be. This is what most types of "music" is mostly meant to be as well. Not all. But I'd say very few actually 'hit the note'. This one is probably one of 10 most underrecognized songs out there. I like how she sings from such a "natural place" inside. It's hard to explain I think, but it's just about being comfortable in her element or something. I think the singers that "run the stage" and "take control of the mic" weren't able to get in their element on stage (likely not easy for many). The guitar in this song is just flat out trippy. Got that jimi hendrix 'talk to you' style.
