Here's a tip: weigh yourself. Then pick up your suitcase and hop on the scale. Subtract your own weight. Congrats you've weighed your suitcase at home probably without buying a contraption.
@cynthiacain94772 жыл бұрын
Did this until i had to pay for an overweight bag coming home! A Travelon scale has saved me many times.
@NicoleneOReilly2 жыл бұрын
That only works if you bring nothing back. We not only buy stuff at destinations, we also reshuffle our belongings before coming back. I can't not have a hand scale.

If you're traveling to Europe, take washcloths or face wipes for removing makeup. European hotels do not have washcloths; only towels. I like to do my skincare routine and I don't like splashing my face from the sink.

Add a dryer sheet to your laundry bag for better smelling laundry going home. Also add 1/2 a sheet in the toes of athletic shoes too. There is no such thing as a sweet smelling athletic shoe. Make sure your adapter for the UK is also a voltage adapter. The UK uses a 220 volt plug; the U.S. uses 110.

I thought I was the only one! Lol I have a permanent packing list on my phone in the reminder app. Super hard core. I have tabs for each type of thing I need to pack. For health & beauty items that you only need a tiny bit of (foundation, liquid lip color, stuff like that), a contact lens case works nicely as a DIY travel size. It’s usually also a good idea to simplify your routine, just so you only have to pack and keep track of five items instead of ten. Multitaskers like foundation/sunscreen can help too.

similar to the dryer sheets my mother used to just throw a little bar of scented soap in with the clothes to keep them smelling good, and then you have extra soap if you need it

some extra tips on top of hers: buy refillable bottles in different colours or with different coloured lids, very helpful; pack some wash stuff at the top, because you will often want to wash and dry your hands or have a freshen up when backpacking or other heavy travelling, and some toilet roll; tampons etc vary wildly from country to country, so pack your own brand you normally use!; some banal medications and vitamin-mineral supplements are illegal in some countries, eg pure iron supplement is banned in Holland because it's dangerous for children (but essential for anaemic vegan women!); pack something heavy that you'll use up, such as muesli, so you have spare weight as well as spare space for the junk you acquire; research your plugs and chargers before you go, don't take worldwide when one light one will do, especially split into usbc-usb lead plus relevant usb plugs, and maybe take an OTG powerpack; i can't go anywhere without my kindle, but even if you normally never read, download a couple of bearable books onto your phone, nothing is so useful if you're stuck somewhere for hours (airports! airplanes!) as a book and now you don't have to carry an extra half kilo / 1lb per book, you can indulge; take totes and bags without english writing on, so you don't scream 'tourist'! (and attract crime); do not just worry about having valuables pickpocketed or bagsnatched, worry equally about all things you need, eg hearing aid, glasses, medicines, keys, passport, and act accordingly; take a headscarf, portable antimacasser and way to block you or someone else's cough. A showercap is useful, because lots of european showers don't have a detachable hand bit but just holes overhead.

I like to pack a big gauzy scarf for summer trips to Europe - often the beds had only a comforter, which is too much for hot summer nights. The scarf worked as a makeshift top sheet - just enough to feel comfy but not hot. And then of course it worked as a scarf too, for cooler days :)
@erinlikesacornishpasty4703 Жыл бұрын
You're supposed to crawl inside the eiderdown bedding, so the thin comforter "cover" acts as a top sheet in warm weather, but in cool weather you flip it and the eiderdown is on top.

I have a collection of under 3 oz containers for all the eventualities. For example for a weekend 1 oz of shampoo is enough but for a longer trip I'd max out the 3.3 oz allowance. Plus my shampoo to conditioner ratio is 2 to 1 so I decant accordingly. Contact lense= cases are great for small amounts of gels or as a pill box.

Frozen water bottle- favorite idea! as they allow ice just not water which is weird, but we tried it once and now do a lot. Travel wraps was a good thought. Also Using old Bags to stop leaks for toiletries was good, as I have tended to use fruit/veggie grocery bags that are small and thin but they're still bulkier and more waste as well!

Sorry, this tip is a big fail. Gods know I wish it was so easy. Yeah, I tried. Rome security asked me to empty my reusable carafe, I couldn't, because yeah it was frozen. Choice on a late boarding, leave security with my bottle and try to dethaw in a bathroom or ditch bottle and proceed through. If you want to pull this jam, do so with a clear, bought in store bottle. In Rome you probably won't get through but at least you won't lose your personal refillable water bottle. K? 😊😊😊❤😊😊😊

1. Even if the climate is cold, if you are sitting by a window on a train or bus, it can still be HOT. 2. I wear roll-on deodorant. I push the tip of a metal nail file next to the ball, twist it and pour deodorant into a tiny bottle (may want to use tiny funnel). I can carry weeks worth in a tiny place. It’s easy to put on with a tissue or a finger. 3. MOUSSE-Mine is too big for a carry on. I spray as much into a bowl or measuring cup as I would use for each day I wash hair, then add a little extra. In a day or two, the mousse will be liquid or gel. Put it in a tiny bottle.

Honestly shower caps for my wet shoes doesn't work because my husband shoe size is 11 doesn't fit at all. So, I always bring used grocery bags is so handy after used just toss it. Used grocery bag doesn't weigh much or occupy space in your suitcase. I used it also for damp, sweaty and stinky tshirt. And put some broken(cut into pieces) Irish spring soap bar because bounce dry sheet cannot suppress the stinky odor from backpacking trip.
@mireilledionne2182 жыл бұрын
Personnally, if I know that I will do laundry during a trip, I think it's a good idea to bring a small quantity of laundry powder and a few sheets of bounce because I find that's it's hard to find it in small quantity in stores. Anyway it doesn't take much place and it doesn't weight much.

Hubby and I are lucky enough to fly First in April to the UK. Usually I take carry-on only but this time I’ve decided to check in one small bag (carry on size) and take an over the shoulder bag for the flight. Two reasons: 1. Only need to carry one small bag in transit, (due to Coronavirus changes we’ll have two stopovers from Australia), 2. Most liquids will be in checked bag. This time we’re on a driving holiday so won’t need to continually lug bags around the countries. We shouldn’t be guilty about checked in items, just have arrangements that suit ease of travel. All your tips are great, thank you.
