I can't be the only one who can see a lot of the comedic personalities from the Tekken games in Harada's cadence am I? I know with Ganryu in Tekken 7, Harada straight up mocaped him, but in general, I can see his sense of humor and personality in a lot of the characters, whether they speak Japanese or not.

i guess this is common across games with an esports scene. 1. it is impossible to balance a character across all levels of player (beginner/average/pro) 2. you can also argue that a character that has high usage across all levels of play is not balanced and can be seen as overpowered 3. statistics/numbers can be a double-edged sword as it does not tell the whole story

Super awesome video! Watched it all and found it very interesting. Wish I could know more about the statistics. Specifically about winrates of characters at specific skill brackets! While I understand they are difficult to interpret correctly without considering them to be gospel, I still think it's a good idea to give people a much real information as possible. Even if people tend to make bad conclusions, at least they should make them based on good data instead of bad data or no data.

Character usage is probably also affected by the appeal and design of a character. Like people might spread the false information that Gigas is dumb and weak because they don't like how Gigas looks. But maybe Gigas is actually top 5, unknown to them. Great video!

Wow... It's beyond obvious that not only does Harada care a lot about Tekken the game butt equally cares about the player base! It's fascinating to hear how he actually has researched all that he has done and the statistics they have used to make changes to the game is a remarkable way of utilizing the possibilites of technology! I can absolutely say that I had no idea who he was other than from my own perceptions of game show appearances and some memes. I really feel that I now have learned a lot about him from watching some of these videos. Especially his interview with Masahiro Sakurai! I think Harada isn't aware of the genuine nice person that he is! ^_^

Cool discussion, this data should be available to the public just like capcom cfn data, i think statistics do give a more realistic ranking if read properly based on level of skill. But sometimes a whole community lack knowledge of their game they tend to trash strong characters, this shows when unknown players pop out and defeat top players with lower or medium ranked characters which are actually underrated.

I agree it's hard to balance characters. But I wish they'd fixed at least the glaring issues with Leroy and Fahkumram before releasing them 😔 On the other hand many characters like Yoshimitsu and Lei need some more love but have been largely ignored and are therefore never favoured to win in tournaments

Harada is very reasonable but there are mistakes that he should acknowledge. Zafinas superior movement breaks the core design of the game and is not comparable to other balancing aspects (wall carry, lows, pokes, throw game, oki etc.) it makes her viable in a similar way that Steve is viable at the top level. i wish they take her core gameplay design into a different direction in the next game. remove moves that dont feel good to use like d3 or Mantis and design different moves. something that is as cool as scare crow.

For me, top tier or not been nerfed to death if the character in his primary foundation has a cool design and dynamic moves set I'm on board with them until the end ex: Dragunov, Bryan, steve, Raven..... but in T7 Claudio, Lydia, Fahkuram fill those criteria not just visually but their storytelling as well they have yet to be developed into cinematics I can see them in every Tekken
