In this video we review the Harbor Freight Tools 1250 Lumens Shop light Battery Bank. Let me know what you think about the light. Is it a good value or junk? Would you buy this or an alternative light? Is saving money important to you or you just blindly buy based on the brand? Always enjoy your feedback!

My favorite feature of this light is the fact that I can charge it and use it at the same time where as other work lights either completely turn off when you plug them in while they are turned on. Or the charging indicators come on but the battery itself isn't actually being charged until you turn the light off. I'm using a USB voltage meter to check. Since I use it for family glamping out in the middle of lord knows where. I use the Quarter-20 hole in the bottom and put it up with a home made extension bar set up and put it overhead of our camp site, whilst using a 15 foot usb extension cable, am able to charge it whilst having a flood light to illuminate our area. I'm well aware I could have bought a purpose made flood light setup for outdoors but hey, $50 total in terms of the light, materials and a little DIY home project versus $150+ fixture is better in my opinion. The Work Light throws a rather crazy amount of light for the price, and also something most people probably never realize while owning this is the light actually gets a tiny bit brighter when you turn it on and start charging it. The package says 3 hours on full intesity mode, but plugged into the Jackery and drawing around 5-6 watts of power, it'll go for the entire night easily, great for when I'm camping with some relatives that have a phobia about dispersed camping in complete darkness. Also to note about the light, if you do run it on High for 3 hours, it doesn't just die at 3 hours, it just keeps dimming until it runs out of juice. It could go on for about another 3 hours after that until it flickers out. The only issue I've ever had with this light Is if you yank out your USB cable out of the light at an angle regardless of force, you can and will disconnect the charging port from the PCB as it's held on by two TINY and very fragile tack welds. However thankfully due to Harbor Freight's long return period, I was able to exchange it since the first light broke after some 75 ish days after buying it.

That's awesome, finally a KZbin channel that shops and questions the same way I do. I found an Otyty work light on Amazon for about $12. I decided to get those because you can use the rechargeable batteries or 4 AA's. Figured not a bad risk. Enjoed the review, and now subscribed.

I have 2 of these. I was careful not overcharging them, which they caution you about. My problem with them is that after about 6 months, the connection to charge it breaks inside. There's really no way to fix it.
@ModernDIYProjects5 ай бұрын
There is a way it can be fixed but it's not easy. The only way would be to get a USB cable and cut off the part you need to replace. Then solder the cables to the circuit board, that way bypassing the broken part. Not easy to do but can be done. But I agree with you these are poorly made lights.

Thank you for your excellent review. It is analytical, unbiased and appropriately technical. You helped me make a good decision. Do you have an opinion about the Hokolite 1500 or 1800 lumen worklight?

Glad you enjoyed the review. I already did a review of the Hokolite lights a while back. You can see that review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYbMaZl7rKdlotU or if you want a CRAZY strong light for not a lot of money, go check out this other review I did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZeXmGV3bqyakKM those should give you a good range of light and budgets to work with.

Good video what are the running times on high on both work lights? The $15 is good deal but how does it performs on battery wise, depending on the battery the more time you can get of working light is better I think so say if Harbor Freight is $4 dollars more but if it gets better battery performance that's the way to go I think.
@ModernDIYProjects5 жыл бұрын
The Harbor Freight is actually $10 more when using a coupon, but even higher at regular price. They both have about the same run time. I would guess maybe even made in the same factory, they are that similar.

Thanks for reply, I ended up getting me the Hyper Tough brand like the design better on the corners not to square, and the magnets is a plus, also like the hole on the handle to use on wall with a little hook was surprised this little light packs a punch on high mode very bright even the low mode lights up good also will definitely buy more to keep in all my cars never know when might need one.

They both have the same exact battery output and Yes, Walmart does have a charge indicator its just not as large as the HF one. It has on indicator right next to the charge port and it indicates Red when low and Green when charged.

i need a lil help. I have a battery, a 3prong switch, and an led light i made of single 10mm leds. So far as is, everything is fine and dandy. Problem is i have to disconect the batrery to charge it everytime. I have a tp4650 w/out protection, that i would like to incorporate. Can you help me with a diagram for this please. I know its easy i just cant get my head around the connection it would be bit easier if i had a 2 prong switch but my wife dosent want anymore gadgets in the house so i have to do with what i have. I would appreciate your help. I changed my profile pic on youtube so you could see the diagram i have so far.
@ModernDIYProjects5 жыл бұрын
If you have it all worked out so what you want to accomplish would work with a two prong switch, then all you need to do is leave one of the prongs on the three prong switch disconnected or unused and your existing idea can still be made to work.

The battery goes to pot if it sits charged for a length of time. It will lose battery power just sitting and will not fully charge again. Really liked it at first, now disappointed with 3 Braun products.

If you don't like Braun, I have a review of another battery bank task light coming up soon from Next LED. Keep an eye out for that. So far they seem to make good lights.
@derekdugger23213 жыл бұрын
@@ModernDIYProjects I will keep an eye out for that video. I really liked the Braun magnetic slim bar folding work light, bought 2 for myself and 3 for gifts. One stopped working, fixed the switch, then it started shorting out, turning off, having to shake it until it died, 2nd one is now doing the same thing. The under the hood light will not stay in position when attached to the good,, the light will not stay facing down, it spins to where the light faces away from the engine at the bottom of the hood. And I really liked this light, the little I had used it.
@ModernDIYProjects3 жыл бұрын
Don't buy the Braun lights any more. Check out my latest video about the 3 in 1 light from Next LED. They also make a regular slim bar light just like the Braun, but better design. You'll see it is a much better light. I also bought an Under hood light from Next LED. Will have a video on that coming up soon also. I get new stuff almost every day so I have a lot of cool videos coming up.

The Braun light sucks. It uses a soft button which has a constant load on the battery. When you're ready to use it, it'll probably be low or dead. I can't recommend the Braun light. I have a similar one to the Hyper Tough but mine is red. It's rechargeable and everything but doesn't self drain. The Walmart light is the best deal. Skip on the Braun light. Since it does self drain, as they sit on the shelves, the internal battery will degrade by the time you buy it. Buy the warranty if you really want the Braun.

@@metaljew4456 do you know if the ones with plug in 20v batteries are brighter than these?
@InsuranceIsLegalizedRobbery3 жыл бұрын
I’ll only comment about Braun light cuz I I have it, not a very bad light after all, for DIY’s people, although I can easily say it’s not for the pro’s/contractors..etc if you were to use a good “CONSISTENT” amount of light, this light is the WRONG choice for you, lighting specs indicated on package: LOW: 650 Lumens HIGH: 1250 Lumens 5.5 hr runtime on LOW mode 3 hr runtime on HIGH mode Now, the specs aren’t bad for the light, noting it has a 3.7v lithium-ion battery Battery Capacity: 4,400mah (4.4AH) 4.4 ampere/hour . Which is good, cons of this light, is that on high mode it WILL NOT stay consistently on the “presumed” Lumens on high mode, which is 1250 L the light will get dimmed after a little while, for some reason! personally, I don’t see a good reason for the light acting like that, so I’m considering the whole thing is simply a “scam” because this light lies under the definition of the word.
@ModernDIYProjects3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I thought it was a good light also when it first came out for the same reasons. But since that time I have reviewed other, better lights that cost the same amount of money or less. That is why I no longer recommend this light. If you want better lights for the same money, check out my LED Light playlist where I have a bunch better lights listed and tested.
@InsuranceIsLegalizedRobbery3 жыл бұрын
Modern DIY Projects although, I’ve also bought the Braun pocket 750 Lumens floodlight, and frankly speaking.. the little light is a beast for its size. 360 degree rotatable head, the strong magnets on bottom base, and has a durable and nice protective rubber, along with the 3 green battery charger indicator lights! It’s really awesome flood light.. oh did I mention it’s 3 lighting mode too in a very COMPCT hexagonal housing designe that you could slide the thing in your pocket in a flash. . Though I have the best quality lights from Dewalt 20v tripod light.. Milwaukee, Ridgid, Kobalt, hitachi, and ryobi that’s if I’m not forgetting any other ones.. and as a go-to, small for quick take outs light, i like to have this with me, zero regret buying this one! at least after using it for several months now.
