Made around 9 knifes on mine this past year. It is capable, but expect for it to do what it's done for me, you will need to make a taller platen. Any type of sturdy and flat oversized work table. True the wheels up because most likely they will need at least a light touch. I chucked mine in a drill press and trued them with chisel. My base wouldn't sit level on a flat surface so I replaced the rubber feet with ones that will adjust up and down. Not much more money went into it but it did take a little time to get it running true. For short knifes with Scandi grinds, no problem, even the handle making process was slick using mine. This thing has many uses even for knife tinkering and making. I skipped the cheap belts and went straight to Norton blaze belts and combat abrasives higher grit belts out the gate so can't say how good or how long the harbor freight belts last. The blaze 36 grit belt is fantastic for starting your bevels.

I'm fixing to get one of those belt sanders because I have seen several KZbinrs that use it in their videos. $50 is not bad. There are several comparable ones that is almost identical and 2-3 times the price.

Great video. I’m picking one up tomorrow. I’m with you as I love harbor freight. Most everything I own is harbor freight and I’m proud of that. I’m not a contractor or a professional by any means but for me it’s all I need.

Exactly, if I was a pro I would look into pro tools but I've had top of the line break down faster than cheap

Hi!!! I am pretty sure the knife is a Buck 501, made before 1985. Collectors like these!! All Bucks are nice and usually collectable. Don't sand it anymore. You can probably sell it if you want!!! Pocket knives are always a hot item to trade and collect, just fyi. Can't wait to hear what has been happening with the fair gaming- we need an update please! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!!

Combat abrasives, I have bought from a couple times, makes some pretty cool fibrous looking belts for that style machine. Which I am wary of suggesting, because it does throw a bunch of grit around, but with that doofy guard on top, you may be just fine. Mine was my grandfathers, but I will be buying one of those for my best friend that is really into crafting. Yes, I am one of the harbor freight nay-sayers, but for her level of crafting, I would trust the little machine, and it would still have the dust collection on it.

Thank you. I am so frustrated with paying for expensive pieces and have them fail time after time. I wouldn't try to do professional work with it, but on the crafter / hobbyist level harbor freight tools are an excellent way to enter the craft world without costing huge $$$$

@@poeonthego haha, i dont disagree, however.... the right combo of tools can do some pretty magnificent work. ... as a crasftsman yourself, i know you understand that. last year, i cut a 12 inch knife to an 8 inch knife of a bit different dimension, and i absolutely love it. the only tools i had at my disposal were an angle grinder, and one of those 1x30 grinders. my belts were a bit less abrasive though. more along the lines of 600 800 and 1200.

I agree. I started doing knives with an angle grinder, toaster oven, and wet stone. Now I have a variety of disks for the grinder, a homebuilt forge, and have added the 1x30. I still do it the same way. I have added more belts, primarily Scotch Brite style. Other than that is the same operation as when I started. If I were to begin larger production, I would run the 1x30 till it died and get a pro rig but for what I do and the numbers I run it does the job.
