Just some extra precaution crooks will slide a flat metal slide into the side of the door to hit that reset button and open your safe with a new combo in 20sec...easy fix...crazy glue a hex nut bigger then the red button over the button to the door that way if they slide a metal slide on the side of the door they hit the hex nut the button will be covered. For added protection I taped a flat washer to the nut in case they use a hanger they can't get to the button. When you need to change the combo simply pull the tape and washer away from the nut put your finger into the hex nut and push the reset button and your done...make sure you put the flat washer back over the hex nut when your done...it works great!

A basement living space can be a good spot for a safe. If you do decide the basement is your preferred location, I do recommend carefully moving the safe into the basement. The safe rapidly self-locating to a lower level usually produces undesirable side effects.

I got one recently,,had it brought down my basement,,took 5mins to bring it down 12steps,,was more heavier then we thought,,almost dropped it 2 times,even after removing the door

@@Hondacuradude Perhaps *especially* if they are locked in a safe. Without air circulation the contents of the safe tend to be cooler than the rest of the basement and every time you open the door you let in more moist air which will condense on the contents. I don't like a "dehumidifier" though. I recommend a small heater in the safe. One brand is "goldenrod". Usually they are somewhere in the 25w to 50w range which is much less power than a dehumidifier, doesn't rely on luck to "dehumidify" the safe while operating outside it, and I consider it 100% reliable. Every safe I've seen has a small passthru for the cord. Just use firestop caulk (ideally) or something to fill the hole around the cord.

There is no “luck “ involved if you have a GOOD dehumidifier.

I started with a 10 gun from Dicks before they went to the dark side. I was able to manage that one myself to get it in the house but it only took me a couple of years to out grow it. I went Liberty for a 25 gun and had it delivered. Two bear sized guys got it in with a heavy duty hydraulic lift and slip sticks but it wasn’t easy. The Liberty is built a lot better than the Dicks which is made of Chineseium. That one now is filled with my reloading supplies. You need room for those long range paper punchers.

The best security happens in layers. Alarms cameras anything that increases the time it takes to acheive a clean theft. The $4000 safes can be stolen and opened at a different location, so difficulty and time to a accomplish is the key to security.

Liberty has videos of how quick the imported safes can be broken into. Litterally less than a minute with sledgehammers and crowbars but the first thing they usually do is knock them over so they can get leverage on the crowbars so make sure you bolt your safe down. One drawback is exposed hinges.
@MrTopflight29

@@scottyV1000 that’s if they can actually get a crowbar into the seam of the door. I can’t even get a piece of paper in the seam of the safe I got.

@scottyV1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrTopflight29 Pretty much any gun safe is breakable if you aren't concerned with noise or time. All you need is an angle grinder and a cutoff wheel. You just have to go in from the back or sides - there all you have is relatively thin sheet metal to cut through with a layer of cement board behind that. The mistake is trying to get the door open because that is the strongest point of the safe. Of course you are going to mess up any guns in there and it will take a fair amount of time which most thieves don't have.
@MrTopflight29
@MrTopflight29 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottyV1000 I know that, but if you actually spend the money on a safe that is actually made like it should be, it will take more than a cutoff wheel to get into it. The majority of the safes are classified as home security lockers and the “safe” companies know this.

My neighbor asked me to help him unload a safe about this size from his truck last summer. His plan was to lay it down and slide it out then figure out how to get it in the garage afterwards. I changed that plan by telling him I'd be back in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, I rolled up on my trusty old Cat 35 forklift. With nearly 30k hours on it, that Cat has probably been moving heavy stuff around since before dirt was invented. It's not pretty but it does what I need it to do and is definitely the best $1200 I've ever spent at an auction! As for the safe, it's now firmly and permanently sitting on 4" of fiber reinforced concrete.

Any of those things with an electronic lock that has a key bypass are not going to keep a teenager out. Bosnian Bill just did a review on a safe/RSC from Stealth that had a really good Sargent and Greenleaf lock on it with no wafer or tubular lock bypass, and if I recall correctly it was cheaper than this one. I still love my Stealth box with the simplex lock on it. 1/8" steel body, 3/16" on the lid, with anti-drill plates and no stinking batteries.

I purchased my harbor freight gun cabinet about 6-7 years ago for $299 with the coupon I am so satisfied I can't foresee anyone being able to easily break into it since it has bolts all the way around the door... I also have it bolted to the wall and floor.... The dirty Little secret on the expensive fireproof safes are they can be breached through the side with a cutting tool in 15 minutes.. the fireproofing in a hot fire your guns will still be charred... So a harbor freight gun cabinet is all I need.... I also wanted a small gun cabinet for my closet so I can have my shotgun nearby in the bedroom.. I purchased a barska..combo biometric fingerprint/ and keypad.. 3 rifle cabinet.. again I don't foresee anyone being able to easily break into it especially with the house alarm wailing..

If they want it that bad, they're going to get it anyway. Even if anchored in concrete they can be removed. Or just cut through with power tools. I've seen ATM's with 8 big concrete anchors run into parking lot islands and weighing north of 3,000 lbs be stolen. At some point, if they want it and have the time they can get it. For these things, if they really want in them, they'll just cut through them or get some big pry bars. Just search youtube and people can break these things in just a few minutes with normal tools. These types of safes are deterrents only to the unmotivated. And that's fine. They will never be perfectly secure.

@Eugene Cam Basement causes an egress problem he didn't seem to have with the talk of pulling through a window. I worked in bank operations supporting things like ATMs and other vaults, and I've seen concrete and anchors be defeated on video before the police could respond and ATMs be completely stolen from the site. These were ATMs designed for external use weighing 3000lbs plus. Taken with a stolen piece of jobsite equipment in one case. Also have seen lots of failures as well, including one that started an electrical fire that burnt out the whole branch. But hey, the ATM vault survived.

Retired/disabled LEO and are people aware that Harbor Freight has a policy to not allow ANY persons with firearms in their store to shop? Today I went to pick up some things that I called a head for and were waiting for me at the register (thanks Dana) and I usually get a shopping cart and then place my bag which has a firearm and identification and glasses and things in it in the cart. I go in the store and shop, pay and leave. The store had all the shopping carts outside locked up so I went in and asked if i can take a shopping cart from the store to put my bag in it? A women came over and asked what I wanted to do and why etc? I told her and that I am a regular customer. She said hold on then went away coming back shortly saying "no, the manager Dennis said no you can not use a shopping cart and can not bring your bag in the store". I asked for Dennis to come speak with me. He said he was a "US Marine" and has guns also. I said okay what is the problem here? He said he did not know what the store policy is (btw there are no signs indicating the policy, I took photos) but that because "he knows that I have a firearm in my bag that I can not use a cart or bring my bag in. I said that I also have a side arm currently while talking with him and then he looks at me and said "well I can't tell so you could come in but no bag or cart".! I pointed out that there are no signs with such a policy on the door and many people are just walking into the store with bags and even a guy walks his scooter in the door. Dennis said let me go make a call and I will come back and see you. I said okay and in the meantime I will call the Police because I would like to file a complaint and have a record. The police never came after 2 hours and Dennis never came back to talk with me. I think I understand why Harbor Freight does not reveal their policy. Mostly men shop there and the men are usually just regular guys who like tools, cars, guns and such. Posting an anti 2A policy on the door is not going to help them with their sales. It seems like their policy is if they don't know about it and don't tell customers that is good enough. I would bet though if anything ever happened in the store they would be doing quite a dance claiming they have a policy of no firearms. As for Dennis the "US Marine". Sad sell out and no honor claiming he would return to talk. In summary I am not saying people should not shop at Harbor Freight but when I can avoid it I will. China has enough of my money anyway

Had I known I would have known better. I was thinking general safety and not of fire. A bad gasket can cost you the contents in a fire. Do your research carefully. Don't make the mistake I made. Great to see this. I was so close to buying from SecureIt but have ultimately decided to get a more traditional safe. I need one by the time the paperwork comes back for my OSS silencer (HXQD556). 3 months and 20 days into my wait… but who’s counting? I have never heard of those fire bags. Definitely looking into that, as I certainly don’t trust the fire ratings. I’d imagine that in all honesty you can get just about the same effectiveness as a more expensive safe if you just take a cheaper one and make sure to bolt it down real well but I’m digging the ones you’ve shown here. LIBERTY SAFE COMPANY is by far the best. My safe came with power outlet, cat-5, USB, and a dehumidifier and digital lock I went with LIBERTY because of the quality and there warranty also of the weight 600lbs empty and as I didn't want a cheaply made safe that weights less then 200lbs empty and can walk away by its self anything happens to my LIBERTY SAFE, IE like fire, water damage or even a break-in or attempt I will get a new one free

You laugh about your bad joke regarding the Miata out back. Several years ago I gave away a large number of bricks left over from a remodel project. Enough to fill a 5 x 8 trailer 12 inches high. The guy show up in a Honda Element with a 5 x 10 utility trailer to haul them approximately 40 miles. Trailer tires had to be aired up. No side boards for the trailer. Some folks have never dealt with reality of physics or save motoring!

I remember picking up a ton of wood pellets on my F150 while the guy next to me was trying to stuff the same ton of 40lb bags in his Tahoe. He had the whole back filled up to the roof plus every seat except the driver's seat piled high and he still had to find room for a few more bags.

The fact that you promote a RSC is crazy. The entire reason for a safe is your for security to protect your valuables. Those big box stores safes are easily cut into with a Sawzall. As for the fire protect most gun safes and vaults will still have a lot of damage in a fire. Fires are extremely hot, far beyond what most safes are rated for .

I've seen safes cut into in 10 minutes with a grinder and a disc. And I've seen how little "real" safes do in actual fires. Stop drinking the kool aid/marketing. If you want real fire protection use a fire bag in the safe and the best security is obscurity.

@The Den of Tools if your spending $600 on a safe, you're wasting your money. You are not buying a good safe for fire protection your buying a good safe for time. Your just buying time. @The Den of Tools yup totally get it just I would rather have a better safe to make it as difficult as possible to get into. Have you seen meth heads act? The combination lock serves only to give the illusion of higher security, it has no functional purpose due to the key override, that was my point.

I'd argue that pretty much any safe is a good bet as long as it has the space you need, and is secured in such a way as to not allow a thief the proper leverage to work it open. All the safe cracking videos you see are done with complete, uninhibited 360 access. Bolt that sucker into a concrete floor and bolt it into the wall, and it will take WAY to much effort and time to spring.

This is a cheap bottom end safe. You get what you pay for. It will keep you guns safe from kids and even a small fire. I good burglar can get into this safe in less than 5 minutes easy. If you do not bolt it down, they will just drag it away. If you have some expensive guns, percious metals, jewelry, papers, etc. then go buy a quality safe for a few dollars more. I like this safe but would not keep very expensive guns in it or they will end up gone with a good burglar or intense fire.
@denoftools
@denoftools Жыл бұрын
The first part of your comment is legit but "just drag it away"? Nope, I have moved two of these and I'm a big strong dude. No one is running off with this unless they came with a pickup, you didn't bolt it down AND left a dolly sitting next to it. As to fire, we use fire proof bags inside the same for the smaller stuff that really needs the extra level of protection. If the safe and burn bags won't save it not much would. Bolt it down and have at least two walls adjacent and you should be safe against anyone who wasn't coming knowing their was a safe.

Just speaking for myself. Seems like most things from Harbor Freight is very low poor quality. Not to mention probably 99% of it comes from China or another country. Seems like most of these safes, yes many of them are fire resistance to some point which is good I guess, but they are mainly designed to keep out little kids or unwanted guest and or keep out certain family members that might go to your house, which you probably don't want, during the holidays or when ever. (1). Think best 2 things is house alarm that alerts local police station, hopefully cops will do their job and go there if needed. (2). And other one is a walk in safe with a real bank vault door like banks and rich wealthy people like Trump, pro atheletes, doctors etc..... have on it is the best, which most average people cannot afford, or don't want or cannot afford take a loan out to build one etc.... But I did price the custom bank vault doors out to build a bank custom made safe door vault myself, and during that time they were around $8,000.00 to $10,000.00 just for the bank vault door as the starting point. Not unless you just have a common steel door on it with just like a pad lock or somekind of a door lock on it. But most criminals probably can get through that. That does not include prices on poured cement or cylinder block walls etc....around it, electrical or style you want around or inside the safe thats probably is in a basement, if your not in a southern state etc......
