In this video i unbox my new 29 gallon air compressor that you get from harbor freight. Also i go through the instructions and show you how to set up your compressor and i show you how to change the oil as well. initially had the 21 gallon air compressor from harbor freight but it was not proving enough air for my impact tools so i upgraded. If you liked this video please make sure to give it a thumbs up and thank you for watching.

Nice job explaing the oil detergent and what wrenches you needed and suggesting help to balance unit while installing wheels and pads. Super cool that you clearly make teh point about what you could mess up by gorilla tightening the oil drain plug, etc. lots of people talk ( a lot) and some talk a little better but very few give useful, explained, non-repetitive guidance on why your doing what and how. Cudos for showing the oil change. I only caught one thing that I would dispute and that's the advice to put the washers and back on in the same order they come off a bolt or wheel axle, as shipped. Very important to get right, but follow the manual or at least good fastener joint convention. I say this on absolutely relevant recent esperience because I just assembled a new Harbor Freight Fortress FT26175 compressor wheels about 3 days ago and the washer for each wheel were shipped in opposite (obv different) orienatation from each other. Obvoiusly 1 was right and one was wrong. Usually your advice will work but it's bet to recomend the manual or just advise Flat washer first and then the split locking washer then the nut but I appreciate that you called out the importance. Great job man.

I just bought same model. That cardboard is tough. Its not the blade. Not bad harbor freight. Now if they can just provide an oil "chute" as suggested in the manual cause yeah it gets everywhere. Ps the 61489 model has the upgrades including the hour meter and higher CFM. That said you have to install wheels and rubber pads. Mine was good. Much quieter than the old 8 gal used.

My only suggestion is to run the factory oil fill for the initial break in period then drain it and replace with new oil. This will remove most of the metal flakes and shavings created during the break in period.

I've had this for about a year. Great compressor for the money. Has the aftercooler that most don't. Has pump and motor as some that go for $500+. Way better than V twins ag big box stores. Use funnel and 1 qt cup to drain oil. The small blue one at Walmart works xwell. In the summer I use 40 weight oil from Tractor Supply. 2 gallons is only $20. This is best for heavy use. In the fall an spring I use 30 weight. I only heat my garage when I am in it. With 30 weight oil in a 30 degree compressor, you will trip breakers trying to start it. I use 20 weight in the winter, but if I used it heavier, I'd heat the garage on use 30 weight. Typically my garage is 10-15 warmer than outside. Typical day is 25-30. Maybe 15-20 overnight. This is too cold for any compressor!

Hi Eric - on the 21 gallon HF compressor the manual states that the air output fitting is 1/4". Unfortunately, the manual for the 29 gallon (61489) doesn't specify what the air output fitting is. Is it 1/4" or 3/8"? Don't get confused by hose size. HF may sell 3/8" hose but I think they have 1/4" fittings on the ends. There's quite a difference in size between the 1/4" and 3/8" quick change couplers.

I just looked at another video about the 61489 29 gallon compressor and on the box it said that the air outlet was 1/4".

The harbor freight compressor is $370 plus about $115 for 2 year plan which is about $500 after taxes. I just bought a 30 gallon dewalt for $480 plus $110 for 2 year plan. Came out to be a $100 more but I got a good brand name compressor that will last longer.

I don't like that either. It's' practically inadequate to have to use such a small port. The next time that I have to do it, I'm going to use a vacuum hand pump. I've been saving jars with sealed lids to make reservoirs from. I just need some copper tubing now.

Mine will not even remove lug nuts off my car. 3rd one I’ve had. Disgusted I bought a new regulator and gauge. Still will not Work. I used wrench and hose that I knew worked. And it still sucked. Harbor freight service said they don’t know what to do except bring it back but I have made the changes so it’s a no go. Wish I had bought one from tractor supply.
