Do you need to ground this generator to use it as a back up for the house when the power goes out? I mainly want to have something to plug my refrigerator into during an outage, using an extension cord to the generator.

I own one of these and two of the predator 2000w inverters. Zero problems with the 2000w and only had to clean the 3500 jet once in 4 yrs due to sitting for 5 months. The battery sucks and the electric start is basically useless, but it cranks first pull ever time. Love them!
@twaflyboy1
@twaflyboy1 2 жыл бұрын
I love them too. Yes, the battery that China sends with it SUX! However, I replaced it after a year (it was completely dead) with a heavier battery (more CCA and higher AH's) and it works great.

The starter runs when you pull the starting cord? Something’s not right. Mine cranks fine with the battery and starts right up, same with pulling the starting cord.

Great video! Just got this generator and used it non-stop for a full weekend. No complaints. Just a note about your loudness test; Your results may be skewed since you are testing on a table and the vibration onto the table is acting as a transducer / amplifier. Like your wife, I was very happy how quiet this thing is and I'm sure my neighbors were to.

I believe Harbor Freight has really stepped up their tools. I remember the first time i stepped into their store,about 12 or 15 years ago they only offered Chicago Tools, then the China made Pittsburg tools. They weren't very good. Now they have Predator, Hercules, and Bauer tools and their pretty awesome. They offer just as good a warranty as you can get at any other Big Box Stores. Thanks Hank and Gina. The next time i need to replace my Impact Driver you can bet I'll be going to Harbor Freight and save myself 30 to 60 bucks.

For the money it looks like a nice little generator . Good advise about running all your stuff that you dont use a lot . My advise I can add is if you have a generator then make sure you always keep four too five cans of fuel with stabilizer in them and use them up after couple months in other equipment then refill with fresh gas . No gas in stock at home for emergency situations does not do much good if you have a generator with no fuel . 👍

I purchased mine a couple years ago and the biggest thing I was worried about was the weight of it. I originally even thought of buying two of the smaller versions just so I could use them easier. Then I started thinking about it and realized man that’s a lot more oil changes a lot more maintenance a lot more parts that can break. I am beyond happy with this generator and I’m so glad I got to 3500. I actually got The propane conversion kit for it and it has worked like a dream. Now I can just use one of my cans of propane when I go RVing and can tap into my home line at the house when I ever need it for a back up generator to run small things like refrigerators TVs etc. as an edit all these 3500 kits come with the adapter needed to hook up to any RV plug. The other thing about this is it is extremely quiet. Videos do not do it justice just how quiet this generator is. In a typical RV park once you get about 10 to 15 feet away you can’t even hear it running anymore which is insane.

Installing the provided starter battery was the biggest pain, but I got it done.

It also looks to be built really well, lots of insulation, and it feels solid. Now waiting for the next power outage. And yeah it is really heavy. It has a fuel gauge on top. What's nice too is the display can give you watts, amps, hours.

Other reviews that I have seen on this and other generators as well is that folks have run it for an hour after buying it. Drained and changed the oil, Regardless if there is any metallic residue or not. Run it again and then drain and changed it again. I've seen this in comments on other machinery as well and it makes good sense. Ethanol free gas and keep occasional checks on oil level and shaving residue. Good vid. I will be picking up 2X and a 50 amp parallel unit in the next few months. Thanks.

Kind of late to this party with my question, but here goes...I'm not versed in running generators, never have done it, can these run in an enclosed space (basement) without being vented, or do they need to be vented? Say, while you're sleeping overnight? If not, I'm guessing they should be run outside.
@HamiltonvilleFarm
@HamiltonvilleFarm 3 жыл бұрын
It will need to be ran in a well vented area. I personally wouldn’t run it inside. But that’s my decision

AWESOME inclusion of SPL app (Decibel Meter). Wish others included this CRITICAL component. I don’t trust vids that just regurgitate what’s written on the box. Would love to find one that uses an oscilloscope (?) to ‘prove’ the Sine Wave claims. I insist on True Pure Sine Wave for my computers. Thanks for the vid.

Sounded like the starter was not engaging. The throw out gear is probably stuck. I would like 2 of them and pair them together as 3000 is quite enough for our large trailer. I looked online the other day and harbor freight had them for $799.00 crazy they are $1029.00 on amazon. I had a Honda eu 3000 and they are really about the same thing.

I can't believe the thing wouldn't start with the electric starter. You act like that is no big deal. Wait until you have to have it repaired then tell us what it cost or how many days it was out of service. For many people, the electric start is one of the reasons they would buy it. You make a great video and I like your wife's comments. You also took the decibel reading when it wasn't under load which is much louder.

Just an idea i did and didn't see anyone in 30 videos i saw do. Lol Buy harbor freight roll cart with handle that fits perfect with predator. Make a rectangle hole where oil would fall through for oil changes. Then put predator on top with 2 ratchet straps. Lock wheels. Put 2 small brackets to keep predator in place. Alot easier to roll over any surface. Elevating predator keeps air filter way cleaner. You'll never have to take off predator off the roll cart. On sale costs 21 bucks. Trust me a lot easier mobility and to work on. Your welcome lol jk

The harbor freight ad says it runs at 56db... 30db extra doesn't sound like a lot but 70 percent higher noise volume is quite substantial when you are looking for a super quiet generator.

Watch the advertisements about the specs. 11 hr run time at 25% load (750 watts). A refrigerator and AC will easily exceed that. Manufacturers use to advertise run times based upon 50% load. Now, some are using 25% load to make it seem like it's a more efficient generator. I'm waiting to see what the run time is for 10% load. So, if 11 hrs at 25% load is okay, then this generator might be okay.

Always test sound on generators, from 23 feet away or so. That's the distance manufacturers use for their own sound ratings and most KZbinrs when testing. With the exhaust facing away from you, as it will be louder with it pointed at you.

Some ppl pay to have a small panel for 6 circuits hooked up, why? a mechanical interlock is available for just about every panel out there.It will be more cost effective to have the interlock placed on the main panel and run a line outside to where you want to hook up the generator. Then you get a cord to plug into Gen and house gen fitting.power goes out, you shut off the mains, then u r able to turn on breaker that connects to outside fitting u plug generator cord into.

Harbor Freight sells these things for well under $1000. Closer to $750, and they come with an RV plug that fits into the 30 amp plug. My electric start doesn't want to work, but it DOES start with one pull (two in the winter). Last year my battery died. Nobody sells the battery for it - INCLUDING HARBOR FREIGHT! Luckily I bought the 'extended warranty' for it (because I still don't trust anything electrical from HF . . .), and guess what. They just gave me a new generator! My old one ran great, generated tons of power, started on the first pull all the time - but the battery went dead. And, Harbor Freight doesn't sell replacement batteries. HUH? So if you buy one, GET the extended warranty!
