I've got one, and it's made a world of difference for me. I have it on a 5 gallon bucket, but it works great as long as you have a good diameter hose to pick up the dust and debris with. It's reduced my filter clogs and replacements dramatically.

Been using one of these along with a HF 6 gal vac for the past couple years. Works really well for me.

i want to make a giant version of this for a drum for leaves. usually a blower is all i need to clean around flower beds and stuff, but i have a deep need to make prototypes of everything i think of. after watching this im ready to hit the shop and whip one up.

Thanks for the review. 1st time I've seen this one. I was wanting to get a Cyclone but they are so expensive! At $40 a whack, this is far better than a single stage system.

Maybe put a scum sock on that shop vac filter for added protection. I have been using scum socks on my shop vacs for a while and they are excellent at extending use time by filtering particles that make it to the shop vac after going through the cyclone. Great video, thanks.

Here's a odd one for ya. I bought one about a year ago. I decided to add a second one on the other side of the shop instead of running pipes. The second one I bought about a month ago has different size outlets on it. In fact the adapter from the first one won't fit the newer one. I think they might have gone from imperial to metric and it's just a little off. However I've had great success with them.

Having been trained in various types of buying powder fire hazards I will say! Such as, conflagrations, explosions, detonations! I agree with the other guy where insurance companies might have a problem with him but they've used separators in all types of Dusty manufacturer for many years the main thing is it has to be well grounded! I was happy to see him using a metal catch drum which appears to be sitting on concrete! A grounding strap would be much better. Thanks for the video

I can't speak for this one but my DD came with a metallic strip that grounds the unit.

What diameter size hose do you have coming off the cyclone. 2.5 or 2.25?

The Bauer is $45 and the same thing can be bought ( without hose ) for $8.99 directly ordering from China. Free delivery from China is slow at about two months.

do you vent the can to prevent collapse ? I have the same rig but I use a plastic can and it does collapse a bit. Joel
@mrdadsadventures Жыл бұрын
I first tried a system I made involving a Brute plastic garbage can but it collapsed right away. I moved to the drum and I haven’t had any issue. The lid “pop” time but I don’t vent it at all. I don’t have it one for extended periods of time though. Usually just to clean up after the work is done.

The venting comes from the suction action. An easy way to crush the can is to cover over the inlet hose and then it'll go BANG! I used to have a industrial vacuum business and if we weren't careful, we'd crush 55 gal barrels like this in seconds

I had a problem with the 5 gallon bucket so I made a wood ring that fits inside about in the middle and 1" thick. Now it works great.

Cyclone separators have a cloud of the material inside the barrel. This is essentially a fuel / air bomb. A small spark coutd ignite it That will result in a detonation. insurance companies will have a big problem with this. If it would be best to collect the dust outside of the building.if possible
@mrdadsadventures Жыл бұрын
Wow. I don't think that will be an issue with a separator just larger than 2 liter bottle. Everything I found online is referring to large industrial size separators. Good call though. ill definitely stay away from sucking up any sparks.

Yep. I had a dust bag on a floor sander catch on fire once. It was smoking and I dumped it on the driveway and it blew up. Probably from sanding a nail head. So be carefull sucking up any metal grinding material around saw dust.

The same thing can happen with just using a shop vac and no separation unit.
@wiredperformance6130 Жыл бұрын
The vacuum filter clogs no matter what separator you use when connected to a shop vac.
@mrdadsadventures Жыл бұрын
Though you’re technically correct, the speed in which it becomes clogged is significantly lower. That’s the whole idea behind this type of dust collector. Definitely not the best option but it’s very affordable for the DIY group.
@guyh.4553 Жыл бұрын
Yes, but when you have a system like this, the filter lasts lots longer and clean out easier
@PerrynBecky Жыл бұрын
Have you bought one of these, @wired performance? You might be pleasantly surprised. I have one, and I wish I would have got one much sooner. The 2 bucket hack helped give me more capacity, but I still had frequent filter clogs, and I too thought it was "snake oil", until I saw other reviews similar to this one on more expensive versions like the Dust Deputy. This one is a fraction of the price, but holds it's own quite nicely.
@wiredperformance6130 Жыл бұрын
I have the dust deputy because it was cheaper than the Bauer. I paid $24.99 and the Bauer is $39.99 same as the dust deputy now. Plastic buckets from Menards are less than $10 with lid and they don’t collapse. Bauer isn’t a bad brand it’s just the floppy lid included with it is a poor decision from the manufacturer. I do have friends that bought the Bauer cyclone and I wasn’t impressed. Cyclones separate the bigger pieces but none do a good job with the fine particles.

Stolen from Oneida. Chinese rip off of an American small company. Buy original and Support American Business.

Patent expired long ago and there's several companies making these now. So it's not stolen and onieda charges way to much for what you get. I try and buy American made (not just American owned) as much as possible but I won't let myself get my bank account robbed doing it.
